QB unable to see Outlook in Windows 10; can't email staff paystubs

Let's get Outlook set up again, FranPG.

First, let's update the software to the latest release. Only the updated QuickBooks 2016 (R7) is compatible with Windows 10.

Next, let's make Outlook the default email program.

  • For Outlook 2010/2013, here's how
  1. Click the File tab, then choose Options.
  2. Under Start up options, select Make Outlook the default program for E-mailContacts, and Calendar.
  • For Outlook 2007 and earlier, here's how:
  1. Click Tools, then choose Options.
  2. Go to the Other tab.
  3. Under General, choose Make Outlook the default program for Email.

Then, set it as the default email program in Internet Explorer. Here's how:

  1. Click Tools, then choose Internet Options.
  2. Go to the Program tab.
  3. Click Set Programs, then choose Set your default program.
  4. Choose Outlook.
  5. Choose Set this program as default, then OK.
  6. Choose Set program access and computer defaults, then click Microsoft Windows.
  7. Click the drop-down arrow, then choose Use my current Microsoft e-mail program, then OK.

Lastly, edit the mail profile settings in Windows. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks, then click the Windows start button
  2. Open Control Panel, then enter mail in the Search Control Panel field.
  3. Choose Mail, then choose Show Profiles in the Mail Setup window.
  4. Choose Always use this profile, then choose OK.

After trying these steps, open QuickBooks and set up Outlook for email again.

You can always get back to me if you have other concerns.

QB unable to see Outlook in Windows 10; can't email staff paystubs

I've been having the same issue when I transferred my QB 2016 Desktop version to a new computer with Windows 10 using Office 365. I get 'install outlook client to enable this option' when I try to use Outlook to send forms. I have Outlook set as my default e-mail also.

My QB has started doing this as well after a Windows update.  I've tried all suggestions I've been able to find with no luck...

QB unable to see Outlook in Windows 10; can't email staff paystubs

Hey there, @Farmer

Thanks for following the thread.

To clarify, what year and version of QuickBooks do you currently have? For example, 2019,2020, Etc. While I await your response, let's try some troubleshooting steps to cover the basics. First, you'll need to uninstall QuickBooks and Microsoft Office. Then, reinstall QuickBooks and Mircosoft Office in that order. This should reverse the issue and allow you to use Outlook again. I've included the links that contain the steps below to do this.

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks
  2. Uninstall Office
  3. Reinstall Office
  4. Reinstall QuickBooks

If you have tried these steps, then I recommend contacting our technical support team so they can investigate this issue further. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your response. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach out to the Community any time. We're always here for you. Take care!
