All I get is answers to printing the 1099s. I did that no problem. I still can't find the print 1096. I will probably just write that by hand this year. Last year I did the 1096 no problem. So what is the issue Quick Books? Don't give me another medal. I am not in 3rd grade.
Thanks for joining on this thread, @fortsutter11.
This is not the practice I want you to experience. I'm here to make sure you're able to print and file the 1096 forms in QuickBooks.
If you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO), you'll need to go to the 1099 page so you can see this form as what my colleagues mentioned above. Please refer to these steps and screenshots.
5. Pick the 1096 form, then if the form is aligned, tap Yes, looks good!
6. Select Print on a 1096 Form and hit Print.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to mail the form.
If you only print the said form, then there's no cost. Though if you mailed it in the system, you'll need to pay some pennies. For the complete instructions, visit this article: Print a 1096 form.
If you cant still get the form, please do fundamental troubleshooting steps provided by Candice C on the first page of this thread.
However, if you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), ensure that your product and payroll tax table is the latest release. That way, you can print the form without any problem.
Once done, please re-access the 1096 form by following the steps contributed by Nick_M.
If the issue persists, I'd recommend running the verify rebuild utility tools to isolate the issue.
You can always check the form status by visiting these links:
I've added some pages about printing old vendor forms and the state's payroll tax regulations.
Let me know if you'll able to get the form and if you'll need more help. I'm just one post away. Keep safe!
Where does it say Print 1096. I have checked and am completely updated
Hello there, fortsutter1.
I appreciate all the effort you've done to find the printing option for 1096 in QuickBooks Desktop.
After e-filing the 1099 form, there's no need to file the 1096 form. You can still print it by going through Quickbooks Desktop 1099 NEC Wizard. From the Vendors menu and then select Print/E-file 1099s. Then, select the 1099 Wizard.
I'd still recommend following the steps shared by my colleague above to print the 1096 form. Still, for FAQs about the forms, you can check this article: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know how it works for you. I'll be around if you need further assistance. Stay safe always.
Its in the same area as when your printing box comes up to print the 1099, look to the same area on the left that says print 1099, one or 2 tabs down it says 1096. Believe me I searched for 2 days and every answer from QB was for something else or the wrong direction. Trust me on this, follow the direction to print 1099, go to that printing box and it will be on the left side with about 4 other options inside the print box. IT IS NOT OBVIOUS and you will be like "wow how did I miss that" I hate quickbooks
I've printed my 1099s but see no option to choose print 1096. Is my Quickbooks too old? All of the instructions I'm seeing online do not apply.

Do they automatically filing the 1096 on your behalf or only when you E-File? I have been trying to E-File all day with no success, webpage will not load. And now I cannot figure out how to print the 1096 to mail in as well.
There were absolutely NO options to print the 1096 when printing the 1099s.
I can share some information about 1096s, @xmasdecor.
Form 1096 is a single transmittal form that reports all payments made to all your contractors. You no longer need to submit 1096 if you e-filed your form in QuickBooks Online. It's a list of the 1099s that are included in the filing.

This only seems to apply if you've sent 1099's electronically through quickbooks. I printed my own 1099s but there seems to be nothing to allow you to print a 1096. The desktop version used to have it when you printed the 1099s.
where is the 1096 button located?
