In setting up the new Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave in QBO, how do I enter the contribution rates for employer to pay the full .45% and employee pay none? (<9 ee's)

The way it's set up in QBO, seems to be incorrect

In setting up the new Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave in QBO, how do I enter the contribution rates for employer to pay the full .45% and employee pay none? (<9 ee's)

Hello there, deannecooper.

Our QuickBooks Online Payroll Team is still working on adding the deduction to the payroll. Hence, I'm unable to provide updates about the support in tax payments and filings for the Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave Program.

You may want to keep an eye on this link to see what's coming: Payroll updates. It contains information on new taxes, state rate issues, and more.

I need to do payroll.  When will the set-up be complete? In our situation, the employer is going to pay the 0.45% and employee will have none deducted.  Will QBO have instructions on how to retroactively fix the accrual since we'll have to run payroll before the set-up is complete? Thank you.

Hi there, deannecooper!

We've already updated our Payroll system, and you should be able to set up the Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave before doing your payroll now. This includes an option to let you (the employer) pay the contribution instead of deducting it from your employee. It's okay if you do payroll first and set up the item later. We’ll automatically catch you up when you run your next payroll.

Here's the article for your reference: Set up Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program (FAMLI). Expand the QuickBooks Online Payroll section to see the steps.

If you have more questions about the medical leave, feel free to comment below. Take care and have a good one!

Colorado Dept of Labor & Employment advised "If you work with a TPA who will be supporting your business with your FAMLI obligations, please talk with your TPA before you register with My FAMLI+ Employer. Many TPAs will be registering on behalf of the employers they serve, but not all of them. Your TPA will also be able to connect your account if you happen to register on your own before your TPA registers for you."    Please advise on this, thank you.

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @deannecooper

In QuickBooks, we only help set up Payroll to track paid family and medical leave in Colorado. Thus being said, you can consult TPA for registration.

For more information on how the Colorado FAMLI program works in QuickBooks, feel free to review this article: Set up Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program (FAMLI).

Will QBO be sending the accrued FAMLI tax to Colorado similar to how you do it for income tax?  If so, you want us to register with FAMLI and then somehow you will know how to remit that?  I saw that an account number of some-sort is only optional in the set-up. Thank you.

Hello there, @deannecooper. Thanks for getting back here.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), once you've already completed the set up of the Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave the program will automatically calculate the taxes and apply this to the paycheck. You'll know more about this by visiting this article: Set up Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program (FAMLI).

Then, to further verify how QBO will handle the FAMLI tax, I highly recommend reaching out to our Payroll support team. They'll be able to provide brief information about this and provide additional assistance to help you register.

I've also added this helpful resource that you can access to keep you in the loop about recent updates for payroll taxes and compliance: Compliance Blog: Information on new taxes, state rate issues, and more!

Running reports to view your payroll data, business finances, and employee information is a breeze in QBO. To get started, you can use this article as a guide: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

If you have any other payroll concerns in QuickBooks, please don't hesitate to post again here. I'm always here ready to lend a hand. Have a good one.
