Can anyone tell us what this error message means?

We get it when we attempt to submit payroll.

We have narrowed it down to a direct deposit account for one employee's HSA account.  If we remove that deposit, the submission works.  We have tried to remove and reenter the employee's account with no luck.

I'd gladly share information about what this error message means, @John346. You receive these errors when you send payroll data or direct deposit paychecks.

The following is the reason behind these errors:

  • Invalid security certificates and general internet connection issues.
  • Configuration of Internet security and personal firewall software.
  • The system's date and time properties are incorrect.
  • Sending in multi-user mode.
  • QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) cannot connect to the server due to a network timeout.

Ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop account and payroll tax table are up to date to have the most recent security patches and bug fixes. Send payroll again after that.

However, if you experience the same problem, I recommend following the additional steps outlined in this article: Troubleshoot Payroll Service Server Error or Payroll Connection Error.

Lastly, I included this link if you need assistance running Excel-based reports in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll: Excel-based payroll reports.

For additional QuickBooks-related concerns, don't hesitate to post them here in the Community. We're always available and willing to lend a hand to your queries. Have a great day ahead.

Tried all suggested solutions.

Called support on several occasions.

Tried their suggestions.

Still broken.

We've had this problem for 6 months without resolution.  Either no one cares or the software is crap.

Time to find a different software solution.
