Today I noticed three of our employees have an exclamation mark next to their name in the Employee List under Payroll. Why is this?

You're in the right place, RDursma. I can help figure out why there is an exclamation mark next to some of your employees.
When adding an employee, you'll have to ensure that all details are entered so you won't see a yellow exclamation point next to their name. You'll want to double-check each employee that has an exclamation mark if there is missing information.
Let's follow the yellow exclamation point, which means that information is required.
If all information is provided, yet the issue persists, I recommend signing in to QBO using a private or incognito window. This helps us confirm browser-related issues since this mode doesn't use the existing cache data. Here's how:
If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those excessive files and browsing history. You can also use supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.
Furthermore, check out these resources below for more details about setting up an employee:

This didn't work.
Hi there, CAROLEH.
I see you've attempted to resolve it by following the troubleshooting steps outlined by my colleague above. I have another set of suggestions to help you set up your employee names smoothly.
The yellow exclamation mark usually refers to missing employee tax information on their profile. As a result, I recommend that you go over the employee's Tax withholding section. See the table in this article for more detailed instructions: Edit or change employee info in payroll.
If you've checked and confirmed that everything has been added but the problem persists, I suggest contacting our Support Team. They have the tools needed to conduct further investigation and, if necessary, create a ticket.

What about an orange exclamiation mark under profile status in the employee section?
Resolving the orange exclamation mark is a straightforward process. I'm here to guide you every step of the way, wmeinema.
An orange exclamation mark next to an employee's name or profile status in QuickBooks Online (QBO) typically indicates that there is missing or incomplete information in the employee's profile. This needs to be addressed before you can pay them.
To resolve this, we can click on the employee's name to open their profile. Then, look for sections with the orange exclamation mark and fill in any missing required information.
I've added a screenshot for your reference.
I'm also adding this article about managing employee information in QuickBooks Online: Edit or change employee info in payroll.

I should have specified QB Desktop.
I do not have the orange exclaimation marks after clicking on the employees name.
But your tip about missing information made me look at the boxes with the asterisks by them.
I did have one box missing information, and after entering the missing information, the orange exclaimation marks were gone.
Thanks
