We received a letter from the WA Employment Security Department to update us on new rates effective 1/1/2023.
The letter states the total premium rate is 0.8%, with employers paying 27.23% of the total premium and employees will pay 72.76%.
In Payroll Settings/Washington, I am presented with a drop-down menu with rates that cannot be edited to reflect the new rates. I have sent a copy of the letter to QB Payroll for action. I have received word back from them that no action is needed related to this document with no other explanation.
If you are a WA employer, will the rates be updated in the online version by QB or am I going to left under-withholding when we run payroll on the 3rd? Surely I'm not the only WA employer that was assigned this rate?
Thank you.
I suggest you open QBs and go to Help. In there you can send Feedback.
There are QB/Intuit people that monitor this site, but the more places you notify them of the error the better. And there's a good chance the Feedback/BUG Report list from within the program will take a different route to the people that need to make the change than posting here. (No clue which way is better/faster, so doing both will increase the odds of a quicker fix.)
I've already been on the phone three time with QB help, each with case numbers. Each time I receive the same email saying no further action is required...
Hi there, @sthomas1.
I understand this hasn't been easy for you and your employees. Let me share some troubleshooting steps to solve the issue.
If you are trying to change your Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave insurance premiums, we can tick the Change or add new rate link in the Payroll Settings. Let me show you how:
For more details about this one, see the Set up your Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave insurance premiums article. If the same thing happens, try signing in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm browser-related issues. Here's how:
If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.
If the problem persists, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. I know you've called in before. However, I still suggest reaching out to our payroll support. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and help you with this one.
To ensure we address your concern, our representatives are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturdays, PST. See our support hours and types for more details about this one.
You can always reply to this post if you need anything else with running your payroll in QuickBooks. I'll be here to help. Take care always.
Sad state of the current Intuit system...
Thanks for the suggestion.
Didn't work. At the screen to modify rates, I am shown this:
When I click Change or add new rate I am presented with a drop-down list of rates to select which are the current options, with NO ability to enter a new rate. The only editing capability is Delete.
I am loathe to delete anything without assurance of being able to re-enter a rate. Is that what I should be doing. Surely I'm not the only WA employer facing this.
Thanks for the update, @sthomas1.

Let me help route you to the best support who can investigate this matter and provide the appropriate fix so you can set up your company's state tax information in QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP) appropriately.
Since your payroll settings error continues, even after performing the steps above, I encourage you to reach out to our Payroll Care team again. They can create a case to trigger an investigation and guide you with a fix. Here's how:

The same thing is happening to me and I followed the suggested solution above and it did not work either. I will be calling tomorrow Monday 12/2 to see if I can get a solution via phone before I run my first payroll for 2023. If I get one, I will post it here. Please do the same!
I spoke to someone via chat this morning. They were unable to change the rate manually; however, I was assured that within the week the system with auto-update to the correct rate. You can enter the breakdown that is closest to what you need and the system will go with that information and update to the new rates mentioned by the OP.
For example, you would choose 0.7322% employees and .2678% employers and it should update to the new rates of 0.7276% employees and .2724% employers within the week. You may choose .7322% and 0% employer if you have less than 50 employees per Washington Employment Security and it will adjust to 0.7276 employees and .0% employer.
Thank you @nationsales
Signing in to incognito mode did not fix the problem.
I appreciate you for connecting with us here, @TJohnson1.

This doesn't work. I am very upset that clients will have to make up the difference for what should have been withheld.
I'm having the same problem. Very frustrating as I am running my first 2023 payroll today. On the Desk top QB I am able to change the rate myself, but the QBO it is locked down. This is my frustration with QBO, they should have it follow the way the desktop version is and let us change the rate ourselves, since they are not fast enough.
This is not helpful, as QBO doesn't have the correct rates and doesn't allow us to change the rates or put our own in.
* * * UPDATE * * *
The rates in QB Payroll were updated automatically.
QuickBooks Payroll Specialists, In future, instead of telling users, after having sent you the letter from the Washington Employment Security Department notifying me of new rate that "No further action is required", tell users that the system will automatically update rates.
Thanks
The rates in QB Payroll were updated automatically. It's a shame that I couldn't have been told rates would update automatically.

The rates have not updated on my QBO for 2023
They have NOT updated on mine either! I need to run payroll! Will it back date the new rate? I have been on phone with QuickBooks three times about this, with no help. QB person told me yesterday they would back date, but she was not convincing as she didnt seem to know very much about this issue.
I am having the same issue with the new 2023 rates. When will QB update them?
Hi, @tokyomomo64. Thanks for joining the thread.
Please know that we're unable to provide the exact time frame as to when this will be updated. However, our Product Engineering team is already aware of the issue and is working on it as soon as possible.
In the meantime, it would be best to reach out to our payroll support team so you will be added in the list of affected users. They can also create an investigation number for you.
You'll want to follow the steps shared by JamesAndrewM above on how to contact them.

They haven't updated in my file either.
Mine either. 12 days into the new year...this is ridiculous
You most certainly are not. Quickbooks dragging on updating this rate that universally affects WA employers every year, I will never understand. I've had to open 3 cases to try to get this updated for 2023, and the rate has finally been updated this week. I have assumed that every WA employer is affected since we can't update this manually, and it's clearly not one support can go in and fix like with other taxes.
