What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

Hi evelyn,

The cut-off time to submit your payroll is 5PM PST at least two banking days before the paycheck date. Paychecks submitted after the cut-off time will be processed on the next banking day and paid two banking days after that. You can check this article for more information:

What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

We use QBO (and the built in full service payroll) and all employees are on direct deposit.

Our cutoff is 5pm pst the day before payday, not two banking days before.  We always run payroll on Thursday afternoon and employees have their funds before noon the next day.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Bibek.

I want to make sure your concern about direct deposit get's taken care of.

Since we're unable to directly access your direct deposit status and history in QuickBooks Online, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Payroll Team so they can pull up your account in a secure environment. They have the tools that can help verify the status of your direct deposit which was submitted on the 14th of January.

You can reach them through this link: QuickBooks Payroll Support

Always feel free to check in with us if you have any other questions with payroll. I'll be around to answer them for you.

What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

Is it possible to change the date with quickbooks online? It's not letting me, and I ran payroll late.  The 16th instead of the 15th, which was Sunday? SOS

What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

Hi there, BMAC.

QuickBooks Online lets you create late payroll if it won't be processed as direct deposit and you are not a semi-weekly deposit for taxes.

If it's a direct deposit payroll, we need to choose a different pay date. For example, payroll that will be created today before 5 PM PST will be posted on the Friday.

For manual payrolls, here's how to create them:

  1. From the Employees page, click on Run payroll.
  2. Select the employee, pay period, and enter the pay date.
  3. Change the payment method to Paper check.
  4. Click on Preview payroll.
  5. Click on Submit payroll

We are here to help if you have any payroll questions.

What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

We are just starting to use direct deposit for semi-monthly payroll and the 2-day lead time has me confused -- for a payday on the 15th of the month, is it 5 pm on the 12th or the 13th that's the cutoff? Thanks.

I'd be delighted to share some insights about your Direct Deposit processing, @klariviere1,

It is best to familiarize your lead time because it is crucial for the posting of the employee funds. It is basically the span of time between the day you submit your payroll and the day your employees receive their direct deposits.

For services with a 2-day lead time, you need to submit the payroll by 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, 2 business days prior to payday. Take note of this time zone and the cut off time to make sure your payroll posts on time.

Let’s look at an example. If your payday falls on a Friday, approve your paychecks by Wednesday. Your account will then be debited on Thursday, then your employees will see their money on Friday.

The key take away is for you to send the Direct Deposit 2 banking days before the 15th. The check date of the paycheck also plays an important role, because the system will use that as the posting date of your payroll. Keep in mind, Intuit won’t process your payroll on weekends or on state or federal holidays.

If you need anything else, let me know in the comment. I'll be right here to help you with your payroll and all other things in QuickBooks. Have a nice day!

What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

Do you know if it would be okay to process one payroll check - paper check - on the DATE we are terming a person instead of the day before?  We normally use DD and always process by 5pm the day before.  But this one time, I'm running a paper check and would prefer to push send to Intuit on it until the hour after we term.  Just in case something happens or we have to delay due to covid, etc.  Thanks for your help.  Laura

What is the cut off time to submit payroll?

Hello, Laura.

I'd like to share some info regarding your inquiry.

If you decide to create a paper check in QuickBooks, please make sure to select Paper Check from the Pay Method column in the Run payroll page. Here's a sample screenshot for a visual reference:

Once done, you can hand write or print the check then give it to the employee by the check date. In addition, update your employee's status after processing the final paycheck for your employee.

You're always welcome to post a reply here if there's anything else you need. Have a good day ahead.
