Where is the 2019 form 5080?

2/06/2020 Update: The version 2020 of the 5080 form is not available in QuickBooks Desktop yet.

Hi art9,

Sometimes, forms need to be activated so they appear in the File Forms section. We can do this one, and I'll walk you through the steps. But first, let's download the latest payroll update to make sure we won't miss any changes to your tax table. If there is.

To get updates:

  1. Click the Employees menu at the top.
  2. Choose Get Payroll Updates.
  3. Place a checkmark in the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  4. Click the Download Latest Update section.

To make the form active:

  1. From the Employees menu, select Payroll Center.
  2. Choose the File Forms tab.
  3. Click the down arrow beside Forms.
  4. Select Make a New Form Active.
  5. Click the State drop-down arrow, and select MI for Michigan.
  6. Choose Form 5080.
  7. Hit the Add form button.

After doing the steps, check the 5080 form in the File Forms section.

Please go back to this thread if you have other queries with the said form. You can also read the year-end payroll checklist to prepare for the tax season.

Where is the 2019 form 5080?

After the last payroll update the MI 5080 gives an error message that the filing period is incorrect, it wants a period within 2020.   Why was the 2019 form replaced with the next years form?   The year is not over and the MI 5080 for January 2020 is not due until February.

The MI 5080 is giving an error for the return period stating the period must be in 2020.  Why has the 2019 form been replaced with the 2020 form when the year is not over?   The January 2020 MI 5080 is not due until February.

Hello there, @kln2.

The reason why you receive an error message is your filling period is very Quarterly.

In the meantime, if you are on the monthly base ensure that you select correctly. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to Employee, then click the Payroll Center.
  2. Select Pay Liabilities.
  3. Under Other Activities, Click Manage Payments Methods.
  4. Click the Schedule payments, then CA Withholding and Disability Insurance.
  5. In the Payment (deposit) frequency section.
  6. Choose Monthly.
  7. Hit Finish.

Your assumptions are incorrect.  This is not a solution to the issue.   After the latest update, however, the MI 5080 is no longer the new 2020 version, which was needed in January to file for December, it has reverted back to the 2019 version.  It is now February and the form is not available to file for January.

Hi, cgrcpa.

While QuickBooks aims to find new ways to make sure that the product meets your needs. Intuit has released the updated tax tables for 2020, which were installed last January.

I want to make sure you have the proper tax table information for your company file. As an initial step, let's do the manual update through the  Get Payroll Updates window.

I'm having the same issue.  The 2020 Form 5080 is not there.  I have downloaded the payroll updates numerous times, reset the updates, verified data, rebuilt data and still not there.

I've got an update about the MI 5080 form, cgrcpa.

At the moment, the 2020 version is not available in QuickBooks yet. Our engineers are currently working to make it available for this month's filing schedule.

Thank you for your understanding.
