Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

Thank you for joining this thread, @AcupuncturistMichael.

Since QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2016 is a no longer supported version of QuickBooks. This affects the compatibility and system requirements with Apple's new macOS 11 Big Sur. To get this working, you might want to rest the macOS update and then, upgrade your QuickBooks program.

Once reverted, create a backup of your company file to ensure you'll have an original copy that you can restore in case of data loss. When done, head to the Download Center at this link to download the latest version of QuickBooks.

You might also want to visit this wonderful guide to browse topics that can help you with your QuickBooks tasks. To get started head to the QuickBooks for Mac user's guide

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

QB has no intention of making 2016 compatible with Big Sur. I luckily had an older Mac running Catalina and was able to put 2016 on it and restore from my QB backup. The computer is slow, so I only use QB on it. I did the math and it is going to be more cost effective to buy a refurbished Mac mini to run QB, than to pay subscription fees for QB online. Planned obsolescence is how the world runs now....

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

I'm just frustrated that I can't even install the 2016 QB on another older computer. Even Adobe keeps the registration open for older systems. Not Intuit. And even QB 2021 isn't yet compatible with Big Sur, so they've really left us in a lurch. If there were any other accounting software for Mac, I would switch. Intuit is the Number One Worst Customer Service provider of any Software Company. Congratulations!!!

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

HI,

I have the same problem, all I want to do is backup my company files, but Quickbooks will not allow me to do that. I am asking for a refund on my 2012 and from now on I will not use an accounting package at all.

My 2020 files have been blocked by Quickbooks, when I tried to go back my screen froze.

A lot of my other programs have been blocked by Quickbooks because they are not compatible with BIg Sur

I will be charged $10,000 for late filing by the IRS. I am going to refer them to Quickbooks.

I need to access 2 companies and I am locked out of my financials. I have so much stress because of this. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION......

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

I'm here to help keep your QuickBooks for Mac 2020 running smoothly, Maeve2.

To get you back up and running, updating your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to its latest release is a good start when it comes to fixing program-related issues. This also helps to synchronize the Big Sur updates.

Here's how:

  1. From the QuickBooks▼ drop-down, select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. Select Install and Relaunch.
  4. Once done, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

The updates are only supported for 20192020, and 2021 versions of QuickBooks. To know more about the important updates on each product release notes, you can read through the following pointers below. On the same link, you'll find lists of bug fixes as well as details about the new IRS 1099-NEC forms:

Let me know the result of this troubleshooting in the comment section below. I need to make sure you're up-to-date and back to your normal business processing. Have a great rest of your day!

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

Hi Maeve2,

The update on Mac's operating system has really affected our users, especially the ones who are still in the older or the discontinued versions.

QuickBooks Mac 2012, on the other hand, was already discontinued, meaning we've stopped creating updates for it. Thus, when there are updates on Mac's operating system, we can't guarantee that it will still work. What we suggest upgrading to the later or latest versions. Currently, QuickBooks Mac 2020 and 2021 are supported for Big Sur.

With regards to backing up your company file, please contact our Support team. That way, they assist you with this.

  1. Follow this link: https://intuit.me/3aoO8ls
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Select the Company file topic.
  4. Scroll down and click Start a message.

Please let me know if you have other questions in mind.

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

Hello there, @TeresaFurney.

Currently, macOS Big Sur isn't compatible with the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This also includes 2018, 2019, and 2020 versions of QBDT. This is the reason why you're unable to open your account.

As of the moment, you'll have to use the recommended operating system to access your QuickBooks company file. Here's are the compatible OS you can in QuickBooks for Mac:

  • At least macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
  • macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)
  • macOS 10.14 (Mojave)

In case you'll need to temporarily downgrade your OS, you can reach out to the Macintosh Technical Support Team. This way, you can access your company file in QBDT.

Once macOS Big Sur becomes compatible with QBDT for Mac, you can upgrade again your operating system.

Additionally, here is the list of system requirements for QBDT MAC versions:

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

I'm here to share some updates about QuickBooks Desktop for Mac compatibility with macOS Big Sur, @BooksForLife.

The latest updates of 2019, 2020, and 2021 are Big Sur compatible. Our engineers are still testing the other versions against Big Sur to identify any issues that need to be addressed.

We're unable to provide an estimated time as to when the other versions will be fully compatible with Big Sur. Once released, you'll surely be updated through email or in-app notifications.

See this article for more information: Intuit’s support policy for QuickBooks for Mac running on macOS 11 Big Sur.

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

I just purchased new Mac computers and all are running 11.2.1 Big Sur, our old computers were trashed, downloaded, but trashed.  How doe Intuit Quickbooks plan on correcting this problem in a timely fashion.  Are you advising us that there is no way to merge the files from the older Quickbooks to the newer 2020 or 2021.  This is tax time and I have no way to get our info to the accountants.  Please advise. Thank you.

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

I’m here to share with you some insights on how to transfer your old QuickBooks company file to your new QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @drrickjay.

What we’ll need to do is to create a backup file of your old company file and restore it to your new software. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to the File menu in your old QBDT version.
  2. Select Back Up.
  3. Then click Start Backup.

You can also check this article for more details: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.

Once done, open your new QBDT version and restore your old company file.

Furthermore, to send your company data to your accountant, you can refer to page 22 in this link for guidance: QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2020 User's Guide.

As I mentioned, 2016 Quickbooks will not open in Big Sur, that is the problem, there must be someone in your IT department that can remedy this problem.

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

I think that after this tax season, it's time to quit Quickbooks. Their Mac OS support is dismal, and their program is too pricey. Going to find a better alternative with Mac OS support.

I'm having to use two computers and sharing data with a memory card between them. If you find something I'd love to know about it. This should be a simple program - it's just several databases put together with layout software to tie it all together. Any college programmer should be able to write this.

Nothing works. I will not "downgrade" my Mac, therefore will need to buy the "new version" as the subscription makes on sense to me, a single owner business with one employee

I have Quickbooks for Mac 2015, and I can't open it since I upgrade to macOS Big Sur. What can I do? I don't want to buy a new subscription, and I have my files on my laptop. I want it to work

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

Let me share some information, Gory523.

The Big Sur 11.0 version is under beta testing. It's not yet compatible with QuickBooks for MAC 2015. It means that we're unable to test the software in the new operating system.

Some features may not run correctly. You'll want to go back to the old operating system while we're working on Big Sur.

You can visit our reference page which contains new updates while we're making some improvements: QuickBooks Firm of the Future.

If you have more questions, feel free to let us know. We're right here to help you. Keep safe!

Quickbooks Won't Open After Big Sur Update

See ya quickbooks.  User since 2004 but no more.  I hope someone brings class action suite and includes me in their action.  I'll be using excel sheets for accounting solutions that will be sent to the accountant.  No more need for fancy bells, icons, and whistles.  The entire program is just one simple spreadsheet underneath, so why pay for something that is already installed on every computer in the world.  As someone mentioned this is a fix a high school IT kid could fix in the programming.  My accountant has all of my backup files from last year.   So moving forward a simple column spreadsheet on a monthly basis sent to the accountant will suffice.   500 year history of double entry accounting and they can't get this right.   I'd rather carve those figures in stone tablets than pay one more cent to Quickbooks and Intuit.   Also will be dumping all Intuit stock holdings today.

Adios.

And I just want to add that once again Intuit has shown it's the number one worst customer support company in the tech world!!! Way to go!!! Number one. It must have been tough beating out Adobe, which has held that rank for several years, but certainly worth the effort. For me what put Intuit over the top is how they cut off all access to Quickboooks 2016, so now, having unfortunately upgraded to Big Sur, I can't even go back to an older Mac and load my purchased copy of QB 16 to be able to use it on that computer. Adobe does still allow that. So once again, kudos to Intuit management for reaching the vaunted NUMBER ONE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE TECH WORLD!!!!!!
