Help installing files on new computer

Hello, @michele7.

I'm happy to help you with installing files on your new computer, but first, there's a couple of questions I need to ask you.

  • Are you installing QuickBooks on a new computer?
  • Are you trying to upload your backed up files to your new computer?

By answering these questions, I can give you the best steps to help install the correct files on your computer. Although I'll go ahead and provided the steps below for installing the program on your new computer:

  1. First, make sure your computer meets the system requirements for the install.
  2. Next, you'll need to download your version of QuickBooks Desktop and have your product and license number handy.
  3. Then, open your downloaded QuickBooks.exe file and follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. Accept the software and license agreement, then click Next.
  5. After entering your product and license number, press Next.
  6. Decided if you need an Express or Custom and Network install.
  7. Finally, you can Activate the QuickBooks Desktop.

That's all there is to it. Now your QuickBooks is installed on your new computer, and you can get back to business. However, during this process, you can get some installation errors, but we have an article that goes over how to fix installation errors too.

Please let me know if this helps. I look forward to your reply.

I'll share the steps on how you can get your QuickBooks file. If you've created a backup copy of your QuickBooks for Mac data, you can restore your backup company file. All you have to do is follow the steps below.

  1. From the QuickBooks menu, go to Preferences.
  2. Tap Backup and then pick Reveal Backup Folder. Double-click the folder where you save your backup files. This opens a new window that shows a copy of your company file. If you have attached documents in your backup, you should also see a folder called Attachments Library.
  3. Drag the copy of your company file to the folder where you keep your QuickBooks company. If you see Attachments Library, drag the folder to the same location.

Tip: If you have an existing company file and you don't want to overwrite it, you can move the backup copy to a separate folder.

  4. Open your QuickBooks for Mac.
  5. Select Browse, then go to the folder where you saved the copy of the company file. Pick the company file, then Open.
  6. A prompt lets you know that you are opening a backup file. Then, Continue.
  7. Enter a name for the company file, then Save.
  8. Click OK.

Thanks for joining the thread, @Larry P.

I want to ensure your concern about your files gets taken care of. However, I have to ask for some details about the issue.

May I know if you’ve imported your file from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online? And where have you encountered this issue? Is it in QBO or QBDT? This way, I can provide you with the best resolution.

I'd appreciate any additional details you can provide. I’m looking forward to your reply. Have a great rest of the day.
