I found a work around. if you go to the cog wheel to payroll settings, there is an export section - you can click export from there and it now give you options to put in dates.
hope that works for you

Thanks! Unfortunately, I get the same error either place I attempt to export. But do appreciate your time in suggesting.
Export is still not working. It's been nearly six months of this. I received a notification that the "investigation" was resolved, but nothing is fixed. How do I get this reported, so they can keep working on it, without having to spend ANOTHER 2-3 hours with support doing screen shares, etc. to prove the problem is still present?

I hear you, none of the workarounds will work for me either. This is incredibly frustrating, how does software lose the ability it used to have? You are not alone!
Respectfully, this isn't about account settings and user errors at this point, clearly. I have no idea how the investigation got marked "resolved." I just cannot do another multi-hour screen share to no solution. I've done, I believe, four since September. I've wasted so much time, on top of the wasted time of the actual problem. Like many having this problem, I'm a one-person department.
For now, I'm exporting using the IIF format, and then manually entering every line of every check and tax payment, since you can't import the IFF into QuickBooks Online.
If there is a way to flag that this is still a problem without, more or less, proving it to QuickBooks with yet another 2-3 hours of my time with another screen share, please advise.
Hi, I just started having this issue a week ago. When will this be resolved?

The problem just appeared for us this week after three months of easy Export. Every day I get told they are working on it, but reading this thread it appears this may never end. I have tried three browsers, clearing caches, and on and on and on. Looks like it is time to move to a better platform.
dharriscscw - I was told that all those that were migrated over their export function was taken away - but they do have a CASE that they are suppose to be working on restoring that option, which not sure why they can't just put it back to how it was. Each payroll I have to do a chat to request an iff file for our company since we are still on desktop. More work for their support team. I know that our business it not the only one.
Has anyone experienced a resolved issue. This just started 4 weeks ago for me and I'm so frustrated. I don't have time to manually entire every paycheck and I can't understand why this issue hasn't been resolved.

When I go to QBO to the gear and to Payroll settings and scroll down to accounting there is no export business. I followed the link posted in a comment on the first page from 2022 and was able to choose to export to desktop Mac but the changes didn't actually save.
I understand the importance of exporting your data, tvbowen03.
I replicated your concern and was able to view the Export button page. For visual reference, I've added a screenshot below.
Let's ensure you already finished the payroll setup. Also, the export connection on the standalone payroll will expire if attached to a QuickBooks Online account. These could be the cause of the issue.
If this isn't the case, I recommend logging out and logging back into QuickBooks. Doing so refreshes your account for the updates to take effect.
Then, I suggest accessing your account using a private window. This way, we can determine whether this is a browser cache-related issue. The browser utilizes cached data to load web pages quickly. However, excessive cache can lead to problems that impact the appearance and functionality of your account.
Here are the keyboard shortcuts:
If the Export button shows, clear the browser's cache. Doing so deletes all the data from your browser and optimizes its performance. Using other supported browsers also helps us verify if this is a browser-specific issue.
Additionally, I've added an article that can help you manage your payroll accounting settings to map your payroll transactions to ensure your record is accurate when exporting: Change your Accounting Preferences in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

“Also, the export connection on the standalone payroll will expire if you have payroll attached to your QuickBooks Online account.”
the only online service I have is payroll. How do I get the export connection not to expire?
Let me shed some light on the export option in QuickBooks Payroll, @tvbowen03.
QuickBooks Payroll Standalone has the option to export data to move or migrate payroll transactions to your financial software application.
What my colleague, CharleneMaeF, is referring to is that if you decide to move into a payroll plan bundled with a QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription, the option will expire or be unavailable as it’s only offered to standalone payroll accounts.
As long as you stay on a standalone payroll plan, the Export option will always be available for you.
To learn more about exporting payroll data, you can check out this article and refer to Step 2: Export your payroll transactions section for available steps that fit your situation: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks.
If you have further clarifications or need some guidelines about payroll, you can ping me here to get assistance.
So if I unsubscribe to QBO and revert back to QBO pay roll stand alone will the export function reinstate?
Yes, your understanding is correct, Luke69.
To export your payroll transaction to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) via Intuit Interchange Format (IFF), you need to unsubscribe from your QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription and switch back to your QuickBooks Online Payroll standalone subscription. However, please note that upon canceling your QBO subscription, the accounting functionality of the product will no longer be available.
To cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription, here's how:
