I've looked over a couple different specific posts regarding Multi-User / Single-User mode issues but I wasn't able to find something that sounded exactly like my issue. Hopefully this post will help.
I have a user who will put a company into Single-User to run payroll. It seems to be a requirement of paychex as normally the company is in Multi-user. This one company out of the 4 that they have seems to get stuck in Single-User mode sometimes to the point that I have to go into Server Manager, re-run the scan, and then you can go back in under the company and switch it back to multi-user.
Has anyone else run into any issue similar to this? I will try to provide more information as it becomes available.
Hello, J-Baker. Thanks for reaching out to us.
Right now, we discontinued support for the 2017 edition. That said, we recommend upgrading QuickBooks to the latest version to avoid or lessen issues when running the software. This is also to ensure you can use all features and perform any processes seamlessly.
Before doing so, I'd suggest creating a back-up file to prevent data loss. Once done, to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) subscription, here's how:

Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. I'll be here every step of the way. Take care and have a good day.
Mirriam,
Thank you for the information. I wasn't sure if it possible to still get community suggestions, even with an unsupported / dropped version of Quickbooks. Unfortunately, my hands are a little tied on how much I can push a customer to update their software.
Thanks,
James
Please post the time frame and features disabled by QB if one does not upgrade. At what point does QB stop functioning all together?
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
Moved to 2020 because Intuit pushed out an update for 2016 (or maybe 2017) that disabled QB on all win7 machines. So we replaced the workstations win10 machines. Two years on. It looks like they want more money from us. Feature after feature are being disabled to force us to upgrade again. Things like switching in and out of Multi-user mode now requires a reboot, with each passing day it takes longer and longer to open, exporting to Excel has been disabled and creating an Accounting copy is not working right. Every one of these issues the support bots paste the same solutions that don't work. Probably never intended to.
Hello, @AceRimmer.
I understand that some features are useful to your Business with QuickBooks. Let me share some knowledge to help you.
QuickBooks has a three-year lifespan. If you're referring to QuickBooks 2017 they lose support and functions and get no further updates, since this is already discontinued. The QuickBooks Desktop 2021 software will be withdrawn after May 31, 2024.
You won't have access to live technical support if you don't upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop 2021 by May 31, 2024. This includes QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop Payments, and online banking. Versions that have been discontinued won't get the latest security updates and patches.
As long as the loss of functions doesn't matter to the tools you use.

with each passing day it takes longer and longer to open,
Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Did you encounter any error message?
That's a tough sell as live tech support has yet to solve any issue in 10 years in my case. Software development in an un-viable business model. The fact is 80% of users use only 20% of the features. Intuit is then forced to add features to give the appearance of adding value. This only leads to more bugs. Intuit plays hard into this to make live tech support look essential. They no longer sell software they sell support. So bugs and secret workarounds are needed to keep it going. It's not in their best interests to release a stable product. Looking at this board I bet they spend twice as much on support then they do development.
Been there done that. Along with all the other so called tools.
