We are currently running Quickbooks Desktop 2021 Pro, and were looking to install 2022 Pro to stay on top of our Payroll updates; however, while most of our computers were able to install 2022 Pro without issue, we are having a strange problem with one of them. This computer is a client running Windows 10 Pro.
Unfortunately I do not have screenshots at the moment, but the following happens:
I've tried clicking "No" on the prompt to reboot and restarting manually, but it claims that the install was interrupted and I end up having to start again from scratch. Every install has been set to "Custom" and selecting the option that the company file is not hosted on the computer, and deselecting the 'service shortcuts' option. Oddly I've noticed it doesn't detect the current Quickbooks 2021 installation and try to replace it, but I'm not sure if that's intentional or not.
Solved! Go to Solution.
We had this same issue and fought it for 3 days. None of the permissions or QB Tool Hub options worked.
***What worked was we reinstalled all the Microsoft Visual C++ via this website for 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2017. After this QB 2022 installed all of the way!!!!

Hey there, @ComputerCD.
Thanks for reaching out to the Community for support and sharing those great details about your installation issue.
I wanted to clarify if you've tried installing on this computer in selective startup mode? If not, let's give that a try. Selective startup is there when you're having issues installing or uninstalling a program. I've covered some steps to do this below.
Start your computer in Selective startup mode:
To make sure no other application hinders you from completing your task, switch to Selective startup mode. If you're uncomfortable doing the steps, consult your computer's manufacturer, Windows expert or professional IT.
Then, you'll want to try Installing QuickBooks again.
Once you've successfully installed QuickBooks, be sure to go back to Normal startup.
Here's how:
For additional details about this process, check out Install QuickBooks in Selective startup mode.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Take care and have a great day ahead!
Hi Tori,
Thank you for the prompt response, I am fortunately the IT tech of the company so I will try your suggestions and get back to you. I'm also going to see if the system is behind on Windows updates, as I found several suggestions online claiming that resolve issues like this.
Hi Tori,
So no luck, and all the Windows updates are installed, however I was able to get a bit more information for you. It seems to be after it is looking for other installed applications, then changes to installing the software is when it appears to prompt for the reboot. I've gotten what appears to be a couple different errors.
The first is "Error 1723", as shown below:
The second, after rebooting from the above error, was just a generic error that read along the lines of "Something went wrong, please run setup.exe to install Quickbooks". Subsequent reboots result in this error, unless I hit 'No' to the reboot prompt, reboot, and start the installation from scratch - in which case I get the first error.
I've cancelled it for now, and I'll await any further suggestions if you have any.
Thank you for sharing the screenshot of the error prompt, @ComputerCD!
Let's continue our troubleshooting steps to get rid of the error so you can install QuickBooks successfully. Error 1723 is related or can be caused by the damaged installer package on the Windows permission. I'll show you how to edit its security permissions.
Once done, proceed with the steps in this article to reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. This article explains better what is the message all about: Receiving the Error 1723 while installing or uninstalling QuickBooks Desktop.

Hi @JonpriL JonpriL,
While I'm not able to change the security settings for whatever reason, my user is set to Full Control already. I'll try running the diagnostic tool and see what comes up.
So a little more information - I was able to sift through the installation logs and found these two lines, one after the other:
INSTALLMESSAGE_INFO Message: CustomAction VerifyIfBetaVersionIsInstalled returned actual error code 1157 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR Message: Error 1723.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action VerifyIfBetaVersionIsInstalled, entry: VerifyIfBetaVersionIsInstalled, library: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\MSI8494.tmp
So my assumption is the 'VerifyIfBetaVersionIsInstalled' command is what's actually causing the error in the MSI installer. I'm going to wipe out the temp folder and reset its permissions, then see if that makes any difference - I suspect the fact I can't change permissions/access in the usual manner means something funky is going on with that particular folder.
Unfortunately this didn't make any difference. I checked the permissions were correct, I even purged the folder entirely and recreated it... no luck. The only difference now is instead of forcing me to reboot before seeing the error message, it simply pops up the error message and cancels the install (after sending a bug report).
I've post down below some snippets from the installation log - if it will help, I can attach the whole file.
It has been a busy day for you but let me assure you we'll work together to fix this, @ComputerCD.
I want to thank you for sharing the results after following the suggestions above. Since the error still pops up even after resetting the required permissions and running the diagnostic tool, let's consider downloading the new installer package instead.
This is to determine if the error is related to how your computer receives the installation file. You can do so by going to the Downloads and Updates page and download the QuickBooks Pro Plus package. Once done, use this article for the steps to install the file: Install QuickBooks Desktop.
Keep me updated with the results in the comment section below. I'll surely be around ready to lend a hand.

Sorry for the very, very late response. Been going through back and forth trying to arrange a good time to fully remove all the Redists... but, sadly, it did not make a difference. Still the same error, but at least the error screen doesn't disappear immediately (yay?)
If anyone has any further suggestions I'm all ears, but at this point I'm going to pin it on Windows or the previous Quickbooks causing issues and just reload the computer. I'll mark the Redist as a solution as that seems to be helping others.

So I had left this for the time being as it was not urgent, then decided to go back to it and try one more round of basic troubleshoot (as the prior "fix" seemed to have changed things) before wiping the computer; lo and behold, disabling the antivirus seems to have done the trick.
I can't say that was the ONLY issue with utmost certainty as it has been in our customer's hands for some time (so maybe a Windows update resolved the issue coincidentally), but disabling the ESET NOD32 Antivirus while running the installer as admin seemed to do the trick. I will mark the prior solution provided as the solution since that will be more helpful to anyone else running across this problem, and likely helped in our case.
Appreciate all who posted their suggestions here.
thank you! installing the latest VC_redist.x64.exe worked for me!
This worked for me as well!!
This worked for me as well!
Installing QB 2022 and kept having to reboot. Fixed by reinstalling VC_redist.x64.exe, Worked with tech support for 2 hours then spent 12 hours today attempting the options suggested by support. None worked until I found a site with the suggestion to Re-install the latest VC_redist.x64.exe. Installed it from https://www.itechtics.com/microsoft-visual-c-redistributable-versions-direct-download-links/. Go to The Latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables and select the correct file (32-bit, 64 bit, ARM64). Took less than 30 minutes to install and import company from QuickBooks 2019 after the VC_redist.x64 update. No need to reinstall all the Microsoft Visual C++ versions. This should be the first and BEST solution suggested.
I have a similar situation with the Quickbooks 2022 Pro installer, but it is happening on a production Win2012R2 server (the install and store option), which seems to install properly with the finished message. However the minute that the desktop client is opened, the server is forcibly rebooted, so that it gives a startup window similar to if the power plug had been pulled on the server.
I need to install the Database manager on the server for multiuser function. Should I just run the custom install for just the storage option?
I want to resolve the QuickBooks installer issue at the soonest moment, @harrylubansky. This way, you can use your account seamlessly.
I appreciate you for explaining all the details about your concern.
Based on your scenario, I'd recommend following the workaround provided by Jim7Mc above. Some QuickBooks users who have tried the alternatives have already resolved the problem.
Once done, you may now install the database manager on the server normally. Ensure to follow the step-by-step instructions to avoid any problems.
Furthermore, check out these articles below on how to host your company files over your network and other related matters:
You can always stay connected with us by leaving a message below. I'm looking forward to your response.
I have 2 desktops already with Quickbooks 2022 Pro client installed and logging into the server company files successfully, just can login only as single user without the server database manager installation.
I have some pre-Quickbooks 2022 installations (VisualC 2015 and 2017 x86 and x64 installs, also one older VisualC 2010 from the previous Quickbooks 2019 install) that are still installed after I uninstalled Quickbooks 2022 client on the server and restarted it normally, to repair the Win2012R2 windows configuration.
I also have noticed that this Quickbooks 2022 installer does not offer to update the older 2019 installation the way previous Quickbooks installations did. I could manually uninstall the 2019 Quickbooks installation, but I can't just restart the server in the middle of the day like I can a desktop. It probably would require a restart to completely remove the installation.
this has been going on for months, the forced update during a short week really? i keep getting the loop reboot now. horrible. i'm not even sure why we keep using this crappy buggy software built off 20+ years ago framework! stop the forced updates, users don't even have admin rights to do it. we need time to update all the fn- company files, can't just happen randomly per user and i cant even apply now with this loop again.
FIX THIS!!! GET IT DEV LOGGED AND STOP PLAYING THE REPLY GAME, YOU KNOW NOTHING!
I just had 2 customers who finally saw they had to update from 2019 Pro and 2019 Enterprise in order to create payrolls after 5/31/2022. That is what started my 2022 Quickbooks installs this year. The clients work fine on the win10 desktops, just the win2012R2 server Qbooks client install causing the reboot, if I use the Qbooks client on the server.
I finally uninstalled the Quickbooks 2022 Pro on the win2012 server, restarted the server and installed the Quickbooks 2022 as a custom install for a server, and saw a successful message. However, I didn't see any installed or updated Qbooks 2022 database manager. The 2019 database manager is running , and not recognizing the newer 2022 Quickbooks. These are screenshots from the old 2019 database manager. It won't let me add more than one attachment in the message, or it distorts multiple messages. This is the first.
