I hope someone can help because you can't actually get anyone on the phone or chat. We updated Quickbooks and it crashed every machine. The first thing it did was delete our link to the server so we remapped the pathway. It worked on one computer and the next morning it stopped. The same method did not fix it this time. Now I've got 3 other machines that will only allow you download file doctor. Once we do, it does not help. We run it and it says no errors. There is no way to fix a problem we can't find. The QB update caused this but their helpdesk can't even answer the phone. I spent 6 hours on hold and finally had to close the store for the day. Anyone have any tips or experience with this issue? I've managed to get 2 machines operationsal. The 3rd went down about an hour ago, same file doctor download issue. This is insanity. I'll take any tips at this point. We can't run our business with no QB. Help!
Hi Paul,
I can see that QuickBooks is an important tool to run your business, and having this issue is costing time, effort and probably money. However, you've already done the things that we can suggest from here. That being said, I would recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Chat Support tomorrow from 6 AM to 6 PM PT. In this way, they can take a look at your company file while checking this out. Check out their schedule for some changes as well.
If you have other questions, please don't hesitate to go back to this thread.
I sat on chat all day and noone answered. I also sat on hold and noone answered. I called today and got through to helpdesk but they have no idea what they are doing. ON top of it, we got disconnected and they never called me back. I've got all but 1 computer down and can't run a business like this. The help desk is impossible to get in touch with. We can't run our business if you can't run yours. I am not comfortable using Quickbooks anymore. So how do you suppose I get it working since you don't answer your calls? My business cannot run without it.
That would be great if it worked. I sat in an unanswered chat all day. I sat on hold all day. I have yet to get any help from quickbooks but have spent time and money getting tech support elsewhere. I do not feel comfortable using Quickbooks anymore. We rely on you to run our business and you are unreliable. If there is an issue and there are many, you do not know how to fix or answer calls to even try. Customer service is an integral part of your business model and you are lacking. How do you suppose I get QB help if I can't get anyone on the phone?
Today someone answered and she was less knowledgeable than me. We got disconnected and she has not called me back. So what do I do now? Shut my doors? I can't do anything with no QB.
Thanks for getting back to us, @APAUL.
I'm here to help you sort things out and help you with this unexpected behavior.
Let's first run the repair tool. This will help resolve crashing and certificate issues with the software:
Note: If you don't see Programs and Features, select Programs instead. Then choose Program and Features.
Here's the article that will give you more info about the steps: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
Once the repair is done, you have to run QuickBooks as Admin. To do so, right-click the QuickBooks icon in the desktop and select Run as Administrator.
Also, you can check out this article which outlines the solutions and other possible causes of QuickBooks Desktop unexpected behavior: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

We have the same issue, except we are on Enterprise Solutions on a server through a hosting service. The QB company file is locked up and is saying to run the File Doctor Download but won't let me download it onto the remote desktop. We have been days now without our QBs and need help.
I've got you covered, @KL58.
Let's first update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to ensure you have all the updated components.
Once done, close the program and let's download and install QuickBooks Tool Hub. When finished, run the Quick Fix my File option. Here's how:
If the same thing happens, proceed to Step 3 of this article: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
If the issue persists, I suggest reaching out to our technical support team. This way, they can further investigate the root cause of the issue and provide steps to fix it for you. Here's how:

Are you using an authorized QB cloud hosting? They should assist to resolve your issue. Otherwise, consider switching to other vendor.
If the program won't open you can't create a back up....hello.
This exact issue is happening to me since I upgraded to 2022 desktop. I have downloaded file doctor, done all the recommended fixes and nothing is working. The program won't open. Have you ever called yourself? Your help desk sucks, if they do answer, you can hear the dogs and chickens in the background.
Which error message did you encounter?
Do you still have another QB Desktop year version on your machine?
I don't recall and I can't even get that far anymore. After I did the file doctor I was able to launch the program, it was looking good until all my customers and vendors were gone. So I got out. Now when I launch it says
"quick books has encountered a problem and has to close"
I am not sure if I have an older version or not. I am working remotely so I can't see the server.
Yes, 2019 is still on the server, but in a different folder
Can you open your backup file (the latest version before upgrade) on QBD 2019?
Can you open the sample file on QBD 2022?
How big is your file size?
I can help you with resolving the error you're having when launching QuickBooks Desktop 2022 and recover your missing customers and vendors, @swimgirl.
Let's check your setup so you can access your company files that contain your missing vendors and customers.
The folder permissions and the QuickBooks Database Server Manager on the server computer or the computer that hosts your company files must have the right Windows permissions.
Check this article for detailed guidance on how to set up QuickBooks Desktop on a network to access your company files: Install QuickBooks Desktop on a server.
It'll guide you further on how to scan the folder that holds the company files, then turn on hosting, so your workstation can access the files.
In case you'll encounter errors opening your company file, missing or blank customer, vendor, or employee lists, refer to this article on how to resolve it: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
I'm always here if you need more help opening your company files or resolving missing customers and vendors. Let me know by leaving a reply below. Have a great rest of the day!
I have been using QB just fine forever......upgraded (forced to) in May. This week, just boom - now it doesn't work. Do I really need to read an article and take steps to install it? It WAS installed. It was working fine. The crash happened real close to your 2019 discontinued support.....seems related.
@swimgirl wrote:Do I really need to read an article and take steps to install it?
Yes you should. Otherwise, chat Support again to ask their assistance or contact a 3rd party service provider.
I just did the file doctor AGAIN, now I can open my file, but all my customers and vendors are missing.
Please help me ASAP I have a business to run.
Try restoring the latest backup file (created on QBD 2019) on your QBD 2022.
Thanks for coming back,@swimgirl.
I appreciate you for performing the steps provided by my colleague. We can run the Verify Data tool which self-identifies the most commonly known data issues within a company file. Then, try running the Rebuild Data to resolve data integrity issues. Here's how to Verify data:
Once done, try rebuilding data by following the steps below:
If the same thing happens, just use your backup company file (.qbb) to restore your company file in QuickBooks Desktop that contains the missing data. You can follow the steps and details in this article: Restore a backup of your company file. If you can't access the company file, follow the steps in this link to troubleshoot the issue: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
I've attached an article you can use to learn more about how to fix a company file using the QuickBooks File Doctor tool: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
Feel free to update us after performing the steps as I want to make sure you open the company files without missing data. Take care always.
Hey Apaul I'm waiting for my tech to come to work on Monday to access my Quickbooks don't want to risk losing my data... but I did make it to level 1... with 5 badges... what a joke!!! but I saw they received my monthly on line file back up monies... what a scam...will they pay me back for the down time they caused me...
Wondering if you ever resolved this issue as I am having the same problem. Couldn't open file, forced me to download file doctor, ran the file doctor, now my file opens, all customers and vendors are missing. Hoping someone knows how to resolve this issue.
It's my priority for you to open access to your company file in QuickBooks Desktop, RS3133.
I've checked here on our end and there's no reported case about this one. I appreciate you for performing some steps to get this resolved. Which QB Desktop year version do you run? How big is your file size?
I am also having this issue. I have tried all the above given suggestions. After being on with customer service for 90 min, they had me purchase a new license ( I had the 2022 version so not old), and refunded me for the one I just updated in August. Still same problem, the company opens, but within seconds the warning error box comes up and I am stuck. Has anyone found a solution?
