My old computer died and I had the files transferred to my new computer. How do I recover my Quickbooks? Also, I upgraded my 2008 a few years back. Will that update be recovered?
Jim
Which version do you have now? QB 2008?
You may try to install your QB on your new machine. Then find and copy any file of *.QBW and *.QBB to your new one and try restore it.
Or do you want to purchase QB 2020 and need to restore your data file of QB 2008?
This doesn't really help. How exactly do I restore a file? Also, I updated to 2017 I think but will that happend when i restore a file that was saved last? Details please.
This didn't help much. How do I restore a previous file? And will it reflect the upgrade I made to 2017?
I need details please
Jim
I'd like to share some information, Jim.
When restoring the file from a 2008 version directly to 2017, there's a possibility that the data may be damaged. It is recommended to upgrade the file in chronological order.
For example, you use the QuickBooks Desktop 2008. You can restore the file starting 2010, 2012, and up to the current version of QuickBooks Desktop.

If your QBB files is already updated to 2017 version, you can restore it on any supporting QBD version (i.e 2017-2020). Download the installer file from this link
https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products
If you don't have any license yet, utilize the trial license of Pro 2020
Keep in mind, once your file is converted to 2020 version, you are unable to open it on older version anymore.
Hope it helps.
Hi. My computer was stolen. I have a back up copy and my account shows 2018 quickbooks as active. I installed 2015 - I had a disk. The back up won’t restore. Makes sense. So do I now have to buy an upgrade? Or is there a way to get my 2018 software back? Thanks!!!
Hi Mashamill,
That might have been so tough. I will help you get back on track.
You won't need to upgrade. You'll only need to download the QB 2018 installer and activate it using your old license number and product code. I will walk you through the steps.
