Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

It seems they are back at this again.  I received a call this morning from "Quick Books Support" saying that my QB was not updating.  Research led me here from the call back number they left on the voice mail. [Mobile number removed].  They appear to have called from  [Mobile number removed].  My phone carrier identified this number as SPAM.

If you're getting a popup inside of QBs, it sounds like your system has been hacked!!!

Did you have some Support work done in the past?  It sounds like you may have not been using Intuit/QBs even though you thought you were.

I would  make a backup of your Company Data Folder, but then you need to get to the real QuickBooks Support.  I would assume they modified your User Interface if the popup is really coming up in QBs, so that means they may have changed the Help phone numbers and link to Support.  I'll put in the link below for reference, but I'd go research it for yourself on a different computer.  What I want you to see is the "intuit.com" and how it is spelled.  Be very careful of sites that look similar.

Hopefully @Adrian_A(note the "Admin") or one of the other Intuit people that have "Employee" after their name will chime in to confirm the website.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I received a call from "Matthew" (had an Indian accent) regarding our Quick books account. He asked if I was the owner, I said no, he then asked for the owner and told me Quick books was alerted our account will not renew and I needed to give him a credit card number.  I took his number and the message. I immediately  knew it was a scam!

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

Still an active scam as of July 2022, Kansas City, Kansas, USA
On 7/20/22 I received a call from ATS Quickbooks saying my credit card has been declined and they need a card to renew my annual subscription. I didn't fall for it but he was quite convincing.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I had a similar experience. Sounded like an India connection, looks like the number is a bookkeeping service in Philadelphia. The got off the phone to check with the tech and pulled up codes that said there were numerous issues syncing and that 43% of my files were corrupt. The list before they are non-retrievable is 49%. They wanted $1700 for a one time fix in 6-10 hours. For a fix and annual service to fix if it occurred again was $2300.  Then he offered a reduced fee from $1349 to $2250.  Problem is I let them into QB via Team Viewer. I changed my password and am set up to receive a code for authentication. But what did they get and what else should I do?

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I randomly had a call from Linda.  She said they were not able to connect to my QB...she asked me to go to logmein and that is when I said sorry, can't do that.  This was the 4th scammer I've had call in 2 years.  They are pretty savy.  I called QB and they said it was a scam.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I got a call today from someone saying they are from support and what to renew our services and stated our bank acct # and wanted to have it authorized to charge.  I didn't authorize them to charge anything or give them any information.  He first left a msg with this return # [REMOVED] ext 104 his name is Mac.  When I called back he said the renewal is for Serivces like manual updates, Back up support, monthly updates....and then said our 2 year contract ran out.  I don't recall any 2 year contract and asked him to send it to me.  I told him I don't think this is Quickbooks and don't authorize any charges.  I need to investigate this phone call.  I have an annual prescription plus which gives me the updates etc...  Not sure why I would be charged $899 for this service they were talking about.  Please advise.

Thank you for reporting this, MarySue65.

You don't want to entertain calls like this because we don't proactively call our clients for QuickBooks renewals. We only send updates via email. The best thing to do when you receive such a call is to contact our Chat or Phone team or check your billing and payment details in the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPs).

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I just wanted to note that this scam is still occurring.  We just received a call from a "Quickbooks Support Team member" re: a declined credit card and offering their assistance with getting that resolved. Same as in earlier posts...Indian accent...calling from an 833 area code which shows up as "800 SERVICE" on the display...and caller asked that we contact him back at an 844 area code number.  As soon as we see what is 99.9% of the time a spam call, we let them go to voicemail and are usually surprised when they leave a message...let alone such a detailed one.
