Company file mystery

I've been trying to open a company file but everyone that I choose ends up being the same 20 year old file. It's truly absurd, and to me totally baffling. The most current backup always needs to be upgraded, even though it was created with the 2020 version of QB desktop. Has this ever happened to anyone. Should I uninstall and then reinstall? Any help would be greatly appreciated...............................Dave

Company file mystery

Curious. How big is your file size? Have you run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility?

Company file mystery

Glad to have you here in the Community, @darthurb1.

It's possible that you open the same company file. Let's try finding your company file using the Find a company file option. This is to ensure you're opening the correct one. Here's how:

  1. Restart your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In the No Company Open window, select Find a company file.
  3. Wait for the system to scan the file extensions.
  4. Then, locate the company file you want to open and click Open.

You also can do it manually by using File Explorer. For more guidance, feel free to check out this article: Locating Backups and Company Data Files.

However, if it still showing the old file, let's run the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix data issues on your company file. Let me guide you how.

  1. Download and install the latest QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Once done, open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Select Company File Issues.
  4. Click Run QuickBooks File Doctor.
  5. In QuickBooks File Doctor, select your company file from the drop-down menu.
  6. Choose Check your file (middle option only), then Continue.
  7. Enter your QuickBooks admin password and select Next. Wait until the system finishes the scan.
  8. Restart your QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's an article you can read for more guidance: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

If you get the same result after the steps above, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can further investigate this matter and provide additional troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.

Please feel free to keep in touch with me here on your progress on fixing your company file, I want to make sure you're taken care of.
