Moving Data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop – Error 1009

Hello everyone, I'm trying to move a company data file from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop using the steps outlined in this official Intuit guide: Move data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop Product: Intuit QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 24.0 Release R13P (64-bit) Despite following the instructions carefully, I consistently encounter the following error during the migration process: Error 1009 – Internal Error: Unknown Exception Steps I've Already Taken: ○ Restarted machines ○ Installed QuickBooks on a machine with no previous installation ○ Forced an update to the latest version ○ Tried re-exporting the QuickBooks Online data with a new data request What I’ve Observed: ○ The error consistently appears around 94% of the way through the process using the QuickBooks Desktop Migration Tool. ○ After the error occurs, the newly created company file appears blank. ○ If I close QuickBooks Desktop and relaunch the company file, it does contain data from the QBXML file. However, after performing some basic checks, I’ve noticed discrepancies in the data being presented.

@CoreSync

It seems your data in QB Online is too complex to be converted properly by the tool. You should consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service. You can ask for a refund if the results are not satisfactory.

Moving Data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop – Error 1009

Hi AntoniettaE,

Thank you. I’ve already tried this workaround a few different times:

Help > QuickBooks Desktop Usage & Analytics Study
→ Click Discontinue →
Close QuickBooks
→ Re-open and try the Migration Tool steps again

This came up during my troubleshooting searches, and I gave it a shot, but unfortunately it didn’t resolve the issue.

I’ve also contacted QuickBooks Live Support at least five times regarding this issue. Each interaction lasted between 1 and 3 hours, and none have resulted in a resolution. I’ve now spent easily over eight hours trying to get help.

I’ve repeatedly asked via chat for escalated support contact details or direct ticketing information for handling persistent, complex issues like this. It’s hard to believe QuickBooks doesn’t have a higher-tier support team or a ticketing system for ongoing cases, yet support has consistently declined to escalate the issue.

At this point, I’m hesitant to contact Live Support again, given the time investment and lack of progress.

Hello SIAB,

If you are able to give,do you happen to have any recommendations for a reputable third-party conversion service?

I’m somewhat open to pursuing that route if it proves to be the most fiscally beneficial option at this point.

Thanks in advance for any insight you’re able to share.
