QuickBooks Desktop for macOS Sonoma

Apple released its first developer beta on June 5, 2023, and macOS Sonoma entered public beta on July 11, 2023.  With the macOS customer base Intuit has I am appalled they let this slip thru the cracks and failed their customers.  The QuickBooks development team should have tested their software prior to the public release of macOS Sonoma.  While in the Army, if I had pushed our software out to 3,000 to 4,000 computers before testing it with the latest RC prior to the public release of any OS I would have been relieved of duty.

I've been a QuickBooks user for years in both Windows, OS X, and macOS and their pricing plans continue to take advantage of the customer.  No more upgrades, pay fill price each year.  The online version is so poorly written it should be given away for free.  I support dozens of companies running macOS.  Monday I will begin looking for an alternative to this software.

Which QB Desktop year version do you have? They have released the patch for QB Desktop 2021-2023 to support Sonoma this week. As I know, there is no outstanding issue.

I was running QB 2019 Desktop for the Mac under Ventura and upgraded to Sonoma.  That's when thing went south. I have seen customer responses who upgraded to QB 2023 for the Mac in an attempt to solve the problem.  All the strings I saw on the Community wall indicated they still had the same issue even with QB 2023 under Sonoma.

Can you share the post about it?

QB Desktop 2019 has outdated since June 2022. I believe they won't release any patch for QBD 2019 to support Sonoma. You can install QBD 2021 without a license to open your company file up to 15 times "opening" But you will need a workaround to reset the counter back to 15 times again for good. Contact me in private for details.

Thank you all for the updates.  I will push QB 2023 for the Mac today to one computer and run the patches.  If it works I'll upgrade and patch my customers macOS computers.

Well this is frustrating.  I've seen the last 30 minutes on the Intuit website trying to find the location to purchase QUickBooks 2023 Plus for Mac.  Do you know where the link is?

They have released QBD 2024 on Tuesday. You have to call their sales team to buy the new license. Otherwise, you can only buy it through selected partners. If you prefer to use QBD 2023, you can use the workaround as I mentioned earlier.

I just purchased QB 2024 for the Mac, $649 which is $100 more than last year.  It installed and runs under macOS Sonoma.  I don't like the fact they force you to call in to purchase.  The individual I spoke with was pleasant but pushed very hard for me to move to the Online version.

Thank all of you in the Community for helping me through this.

This is an OLD story with Intuit whenever there's a MacOS update. Mac Desktop for Quickbooks has always been treated like the redheaded step-child by Intuit. I learned MANY years ago, if a functioning copy of QB is important to you, DON'T update to the latest MacOS until you can verify that Intuit has given the green light. Is this ideal/acceptable? Of course not, but it's the way it has been for at least 20+ years.

Intuit's phone "tech support" is trained first and foremost to sell new product or product upgrades before actually assisting you with your issue.

Hello.  QB Staff indicated there are patches for 2021-2023, but unfortunately not for 2019.

Hello.  Sorry to tell you, there are no patches nor will there be for QB 2019 for the Mac to run under Sonoma.  Only patches for Sonoma are QB 2021-2023 for the Mac. QB 2024 came ready to be installed on Sonoma.

Thanks, I expected this. I may just resign myself to getting 2024 or even online. Appreciate the advice.

Time to roll back my OS and putting off that update until the end of the year.  Then I'll be switching to god-only-knows-what-but-anything-besides-quickbooks once I close my books for the year. I have to purchase two copies each time this happens.  I just can't afford Intuit products.

I would really like to know what you find as an alternative, I will be moving away to0, and NOT to the crappy, childish-like version online.

How can I upgrade my QBDT 2019 for Mac to QBDT 2021?

QuickBooks Desktop for macOS Sonoma

I'd be pleased to assist you in upgrading your QBDT 2019 for Mac, @Cruiseman.

The latest MacOS Sonoma 14.0 updates include compatibility patches for all supported versions of QuickBooks for Mac (2021-2024). To manually upgrade your QBDT, ensure you have the minimum system requirements to run QBDT for Mac on your device and locate your license and product numbers.

Once done, download and install QBDT 2021 on your computer. Then, update or convert your 2019 company file to work in the newer QBDT version. Here's how:

  1. Open your company file.
  2. Click on Upgrade when QuickBooks prompts you to update your company file.
  3. If you receive a prompt message, select OK.
  4. Check your balances, reports, and accounts to ensure you've updated your company file successfully.

You can visit this article for the detailed process: Install and set up QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Note that starting from May 31, 2024, all versions of QBDT 2021 will be discontinued. You'll lose access to live technical support and other integrated Intuit services if you fail to upgrade by this date. For more information, please refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

Additionally, you'll want to create a backup of your company file after each session to restore it and resume work in case of any data-related issues..

You can also generate specific reports to monitor and evaluate your business finances and other accounting statements.

I'm here to assist you further with upgrading QBDT for Mac or addressing any other QuickBooks-related inquiries. Feel free to leave your response below, and I'll circle back to help you promptly.
