Certiport (Intuit's certification testing partner) states on its website that "Intuit QuickBooks Desktop is being retired in August 2022" and, therefore, Certiport is discontinuing testing July 2023.
According to Intuit customer/tech support, only the standalone version is being discontinued but Desktop would continue to be available on a lease basis. This makes sense (if true) but then:
1. Why would Certiport say "Beginning August 1, 2022, Intuit QuickBooks Desktop will be retired"?
2. If the software is not being retired, why would Certiport discontinue testing?
3. Who will provide Desktop certification testing after Certiport discontinues?
4. Has Certiport inadvertently spilled the beans on a decision that Intuit has not announced?
Welcome to the Community, @PHIL SYKORA. I'm here to share some details about the discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) services and certification.
The QBDT add-on services will be discontinued after May 31, 2022. That means the latest security patches, updates, payroll, and support services will be discontinued.
I've added an article for your reference: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.
In addition, QBDT Advanced Certification training modules and exams has been discontinued effective last December 31, 2018. Certified users will continue to have the Advanced Certification status extended for three years.
The extension started in January 2019 and will remain active until January 1, 2022. For more information, please visit this article: ProAdvisor Certification FAQs.
Please don't hesitate to comment below if you have any concerns or questions about ProAdvisor Certification. I'll be sure to get back to you.
I don't see any announcement about it on their website. cmiiw

I use QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022. Annual Subscription.
Will there be updates made for the next three years or not ?
Afaik, Intuit will support QBD 2022 until May 2025 as their default policy as long as you paid your annual fee.

They announced the retirement of exam for QB Desktop US version.
Stephanie,
Thanks for your quick response. You provide lots of information about various extensions. But with all due respect, you haven't answered any of my 4 questions. And now I have a couple more.
1. Why is Intuit discontinuing the various services for Desktop if not because of the elimination of the program?
2. Cutting to the chase....is Intuit eliminating QuickBooks Desktop within the next few years?
Thanks, Phil

I appreciate you for getting back to us and for sharing some clarifications, Phil.
There's isn't any news or updates about discontinuing QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). However, QuickBooks will no longer offer support for QBDT 2019 and lower versions.
Rest assured users can still use their older version of QBDT. However, they won't receive any latest updates and patches. Also, access to any add-on services will no longer be available for them.
You can refer to this link for more details about this: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information
Furthermore, you can also check our Product Updates page to learn more about the newest news and updates in QuickBooks.
In regards to discontinuing certification exams. This is due to low demand and engagement from the ProAdvisor community. Thus, Certiport will no longer sell exam licenses. You can visit this link for more details: Frequently Asked Questions about ProAdvisor Certification.
Lastly, you can always visit our QuickBooks Support page to learn some tips and tricks in managing your QBDT.
If you have any other concerns or questions about ProAdvisor certification or with your QBDT, you can always add them in your reply. I'm always here ready to back you up. Stay safe!
How do I recertify for 2022?
There is no recertify tab in my training file for QB DT 2022 only the whole program
Thank you for joining the thread, @rjbarham. I'll show you the steps to recertifying in QuickBooks Desktop.
You'll need to subscribe to ProAdvisor Premier software and ProAdvisor Enterprise software to get the training you need for the certification in 2022.
Here are the new ProAdvisor Certifications for 2022:
We're delighted to announce that we've upgraded our certification examinations and training to assist you in your preparation. The updates provide the most up-to-date features and capabilities to help you and your clients succeed.
However, the certification training and modules exam for QuickBooks Desktop Advanced was discontinued on December 31, 2018 due to low demand.
Additionally, here are the commonly asked questions with regards to the QuickBooks Certification Program: Frequently asked questions about ProAdvisor certification.
I'm available to assist. Don't hesitate to come by here in the Community, @rjbarham.
If you upgrade QBs Desktop 2019 to Pro Plus 2022 or Premiere Plus 2022 that has a one year subscription, is Intuit going to continue offering the "Desktop" product on a yearly subscription basis?
Also, if you decide to continue using the 2019 version (knowing you won't receive any updates and you will lose the ability to import data from your bank, etc.), will the program eventually start having issues "without warning" that would mess up your books?
I can shed a light on that, lesa1.
Both QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus and QuickBooks Premier Plus are subscription-based editions of Pro and Premier. We'll continue offering these products on a yearly subscription basis.
With regard to your second question, your product will still work for you after the discontinuation. Take note that your access to payroll service, live support, online backup, Online Banking, and other add-on services will be discounted after May 31, 2022. Although, there are times you'll encounter unusual behaviors when using the product since the discontinued versions won't receive the latest security patches and updates anymore.
To know more about our service discontinuation, I recommend reading this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
Keep me posted if you have any other concerns or further questions. I'll always have your back.

You can still purchase the one time license for QBD 2021 or QBD 2022 (Premier) Accountant edition to upgrade your version.
