If you have already submitted a 1099-NEC form and need to adjust it to a 1099-MISC form, you can file a corrected 1099-NEC form with the correct information and then file a new 1099-MISC form with the same information. You can also use the IRS’s online filing system to file a corrected 1099-NEC form and a new 1099-MISC form. UTSA Blackboard
It is important to note that the deadline for filing 1099 forms is January 31st of each year. If you have missed the deadline, you may be subject to penalties and interest charges.

Thanks!

I have QBs desktop and had a lot of difficulty filing our 1099s for the last few years. Has QBs addressed the maze of issues for 2025? If not, I will be looking for another source to file our 1099's online.
I was told that NEC are to replace all MISC? Curious!
@KSfranklin Where did you hear that information regarding 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC?
The 1099-NEC is now used to report independent contractor income. But the 1099-MISC form is still around, it's just used to report miscellaneous income such as rent or payments to an attorney. Bench Blog
Although the 1099-MISC is still in use, contractor payments made in 2020 and beyond will be reported on the form 1099-NEC.
@KSfranklin Ah, that. Yes, before 2020, the NEC did not exist.
The NEC is basically just a form they split off from MISC specifically for contractor payments.
It won't be replacing the MISC, only one of the common uses that the MISC once had.
Have you tried the e-file with QBs? It is very complicated. Every year I have to call for help.
@KSfranklin The only thing I've ever bothered e-filing with QuickBooks is the 941 report and W-2s, and that only on the Desktop version.
Frankly, trusting them that far is a bit of a stretch, considering how late they've been lately on preparing for W-2 season.
Thanks for posting here in the Community, and for sharing the complete details of your concern. I'll share some information about how to file your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms, @KSfranklin.
QuickBooks Desktop can help you prepare your 1099s from the info you already have in the program. But when it's time to file you'll have to import your data to Tax1099, then file the form from there. May I what issues or challenges you've encountered when filing the form?
Form 1099-NEC will only replace Form 1099-MISC for reporting non-employee compensation (in Box 7), shifting the role of the 1099-MISC for reporting all other types of compensation.
The 1099-NEC is specifically for reporting non-employee compensation, whereas the 1099-MISC is for a variety of other types of payments, such as rent and royalties. So, if you only made non-employee compensation payments to an individual, the 1099-NEC can replace the need to file a 1099-MISC. However, if you made other types of payments to the individual, you may still need to file a 1099-MISC for those payments.
The 1099-NEC is now used to report independent contractor income. But the 1099-MISC form is still around, it's just used to report miscellaneous income such as rent or payments to an attorney. Although the 1099-MISC is still in use, contractor payments made in 2020 and beyond will be reported on the form 1099-NEC.
Again, it depends on the type of payment or compensation. Starting in tax year 2020, qualifying non-employee compensation payments will be reported on Form 1099-NEC, instead of on Form 1099-MISC. However, the 1099-MISC will still be used for reporting other types of payments, such as rents and royalties, but non-employee compensation payments should now be reported on the 1099-NEC.
