ANNOYING ADS

So, sometime in between last night and this morning, this QuickBooks Capital ad mysteriously inserted itself in my payroll center window.

qb ad 01.30.20.jpg

There is no "X" to click on to remove it. I already have (and have ALWAYS had) pop-up ads disabled in my preferences. (Hint: Because they're ANNOYING when I'm trying to DO MY JOB with software that I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR.) This next bit is beside the point, but we are definitely NOT interested and will NEVER be utilizing this service, if ONLY because the ads that constantly insert themselves into my workflow are irritating as $#*%!

Please tell me WHY this ad is showing up, and HOW I can remove it. Better yet, please tell me how I can opt out of ANY AND ALL ADVERTISING FOREVER AND ALWAYS. I've read an untold multitude of comments on this forum from over the past YEAR from people fed up with these ads appearing in one form or another, so perhaps something radical should be done. (Pssst, like maybe removing all ads forever and always?)

I have been using QuickBooks software solidly since 2006. I'll know a BS answer when I see one, so please don't waste your time giving me one.

Yikes, that's awful!  It has seemingly nothing to do with payroll. What's it even doing there?

Hi stirlingpainting,

Advertisement is set to make customers and prospects aware of the features and benefits of the products. Let's make sure to change your display settings so you can see the X button.

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Desktop View.
  2. Under Windows Settings in My Preferences page, click the Display button.
  3. Change the Scale and Layout to 100%.
  4. Set your screen resolution to at least 1024 x 768. We recommend 1920 x 1080 for the best display.
  5. When you're done, restart your computer.

You also use this article for reference: Change display settings in QuickBooks.

Then, go back to the payroll center window and close the ad.

Please keep me posted for any additional comments. Thanks.

Nope, this is not the answer. There is not an "X" to click because it is EMBEDDED IN THE PAYROLL CENTER WINDOW. Please look at the screenshot again.

Also, there is a "New: Business Loans" button in my Home window that partially covers up my "Pay Bills" button. WHY. I do not need to see this. I want it gone. Speaking of unnecessary buttons that should be gone, "Order Checks & Tax Forms" and "QuickBooks 2020 is here" should also be removed.

I appreciate you for using QuickBooks Desktop for a long time, stirlingpainting.

The option to remove the Order Checks & Tax Forms and QuickBooks 2020 icon is unavailable. Also, there’s no way to turn off the QuickBooks Capital prompts completely. Rest assured, it not affect when running transactions in QuickBooks.

I'll personally share your feedback with our engineers about this one.

Then, please reach out to our Technical Support Team. They'll investigate what's causing the New: Business Loans icon overlapping the Pay Bills button. It will take a bit of your time to reach us due to the tax season. Instead, we're giving you an option to request a callback. This way, you won't have to wait on the line when we have a high volume of calls.

Here's how:

  1. Click Help on the top menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Hit Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern in the Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field.
  5. Tick Continue.
  6. Tap Get a callback.

Visit the Community if you need a hand with filing your year-end forms or any QuickBooks related. I'll be here to help.

When you say the QuickBooks Capital prompts "not affect when running transactions in QuickBooks" you are incorrect. It DOES affect in that they are IN THE WAY of the information I need to see, and are thus extremely annoying! It would be nice to be able to OPT OUT of any sort of marketing content COMPLETELY. How about you personally tell your engineers that? I don't want to see ANY advertisements AT ALL when I am trying to DO MY JOB in software that IS ALREADY PAID FOR. Like the multitudes of other annoyed and frustrated individuals before me, I am now diligently researching alternatives to QuickBooks.

The embedded ad is still in my Payroll Center window. It's still in the way and still interrupting my work flow. Any idea when that might be removed?

Currently, we have no options to remove it, stirlingpainting.

I can see that this is impacting your ability to use other functions in the program already. I'm sending feedback to our engineers, so they can consider adding an option to remove it.

In the meantime, I would also suggest getting in touch with our Support to report this. This way, they can get your company information for tracking purposes. I won't be able to ask it here for security reasons.

If you have other questions, feel free to go back to this thread.

You know what would be really nice? If your engineers just REMOVED all ads completely. That would be super great. I don't want an "option to remove" this EMBEDDED ad. I want ALL ads to be removed. And from the looks of this community, a LOT of other people want the same thing.

Another week has passed, and this ad is STILL embedded in my Payroll Center window. Do any of you QuickBooks "experts" have any idea when it will be removed?! I get more and more annoyed every time I see it, which is EVERY DAY.

I am completely with you on all of this. And annoyed with the out-of-the-box replies we get to all of these types of issues, such as the suggestion to check the box in preferences telling them not to display ads -- it doesn't work in this case. And especially telling us to change our monitor settings so that the unwanted crap they put on our screens doesn't interfere with our work space.  Ludicrous beyond words.

Your engineers have had four months to remove these ads, and they are still not removed. Can you please give me an update as to when they will remove these ads from our software?

Feel free to check out the sequel I posted. (Link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/annoying-ads-the-sequel-embedded-b...)

Looks like somebody didn't like my sequel. Access to that thread has been denied. If that's not a clear answer as to whether Intuit will remove ads from software we pay for, I don't know what is.

SO ANNOYING.

These ads need to go.  I don't need PPP.  We are fine.  This stuff needs to go.  It slows down my computer significantly.  I have an imac.  We need to use Contractors edition, and that's only available on Windows.  So  I have to run Parallels to run windows to run QB and these ads are the death of me. I have updated RAM as much as I can.  ADS NEED TO GO.  Pass that on to engineering also.  GRRRR!

I agree with the other uses.  There are so many things in QuickBooks to quick through just to be able to enter something that took seconds.  We do not need the ads: we should be able to "x" them out without them showing up again.  I work on many clients' books throughout the week and it is tiring to do this every time I open a new company.

I also cannot get the payroll reports I used to, showing quarter and year-to-date information.  This information was excellent when attempting to resolve discrepancies or calculate taxes due by adding another worksheet using the same data.

Very disappointed!

Thanks for joining this thread, @KLAINC.

The in-product pop-ups are designed to guide and suggest how you can optimize your QuickBooks Desktop experience. Rest assured, that it won't affect when entering transactions in QuickBooks.

Also, I've checked your concern and found out that there's an ongoing investigation about pulling up payroll reports. Our engineers are currently investigating and working on an immediate fix.

In the meantime, here's the workaround you can follow:

To integrate the file with QuickBooks

  1. Locate your QB Programs folder. Usually, the location is something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks 2020\.
  2. Within that folder, go to \Components\Templates.
  3. Copy the fixed XLT file included in this ZIP file into that folder, overwriting the file of the same name that is already there.
  4. Launch from within QB as normal.

To add you to the list of affected users, I suggest contacting our Support Team to give your account information. Once added, you'll receive updates on the current status of the issue and the resolution when available.

The X button does nothing, I have hit it many times and they come back.  I just paid for the Mfg / Wholesale desktop version  and all I see are ads across the top of the home page.  It is so annoying, I am tired of hitting the X only to see more pop back.

I appreciate you for reaching back, EllieClaireW.

Since the X button doesn't work for you, I’d recommend contacting our technical support team. They can conduct an investigation to determine the root cause of this matter so they can apply a fix in a timely manner.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect. Phone support may be limited due to volume.

To ensure we address your concern, our representatives are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturdays, PST. See our support hours and types for more details about this one.

You can visit our QuickBooks Help Articles page for more insight s about managing your business in your software.

I look forward to hearing from you and getting this worked out! Have a good one.

Get rid of the ads! I don't need help, I need to not have a huge banner pop up every time I open the program. And marking the box to never see the ad again has NEVER worked.
