Deleting an attachment is easy and I can help you with it. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the bill or invoice.
  2. Scroll down and look for the attachment.
  3. Click the x button beside it.
  4. Click Save and close.

I have an attachment with a long file name and cannot see the "x" to delete.  Is there another way to remove?

Yes, there is evamath.

It's quick and easy with just a few clicks. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Attachments
  3. Locate the attachment you want to delete.
  4. Hit the drop-down menu next to Download.
  5. Select Delete.
  6. Tap Yes to confirm.

We are not able to delete an attachment when we copy a bill and want to update it. What's the alternative to this please?

Thanks for following this thread, FM14.

Let me provide some information on why you’re unable to delete an attachment on the bill.

We received reports from other users that the x menu beside the attachment is no longer available. This unexpected behavior is being worked on by our engineers with utmost urgency.

To keep you in the loop about the progress of the investigation, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online (QBO) Support Team. One of our specialists will help you sign up to the notification list of affected users. You’ll receive email updates once more information is available about the issue.

Here’s how to reach them:

  1. Tap the Help icon at the top to open the QB Assistant window.
  2. In the Assistant tab, scroll down to the Type something field to enter the issue. For example, unable to delete an attachment to a bill.
  3. Click the Get help from a human link and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process.
  4. In How would you like to connect with us? section, choose Chat for real-time assistance or Callback to speak with an agent.

I’ve included an article for future reference: Attachments in QuickBooks Online. This write-up tackles how to manage attached documents to transactions. It includes a list of entries where you can add attachments and supported file types.

I appreciate your patience while we’re working on this. Reach out to me again if you have additional concerns on how to handle the attached documents. I’ll get back to assist further.

Chiming in on the thread to point you in the right direction for help, @redwing, and @hwhaley.

I understand how important this feature is to your business. Thus, I highly suggest reaching out to our Technical Support Team. This way, they’ll be able to add you to the affected users and provide updates once a solution is available.

Here’s how to get in touch with them:

  1. Go to the (?) Help icon in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Select the Search tab, and click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief discussion of your concern and click Continue
  4. Select either Chat with us (if you preferred messaging) or Give us a call.

Please ensure to review their support hours to know when agents are available. This way, you can contact them at a time that is convenient for you.

Let me know if there’s anything else that I can assist you with. Stay safe!

How do I delete an "Attachments" from a Bill or invoice? I have an old Invoice attached and need to get it out of there. Thank you

Please note that Quickbooks Online keeps old versions of attachments even if they are shown as deleted. Just hitting the "x" does nothing more than hide the attachment from you.

To not only remove the document as an attachment but to further remove it as an uploaded file, you need to follow Miriam's instructions:

It's quick and easy with just a few clicks. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Attachments
  3. Locate the attachment you want to delete.
  4. Hit the drop-down menu next to Download.
  5. Select Delete.
  6. Tap Yes to confirm.

For more details, take a look at this article: Attachments in QuickBooks Online.

I'm guessing that even after that, the document is still there for AI, Google, and Government Authorities to see it, but at least it feels like it might actually be gone at that point.
