I purchased cheques from D+H specifically for Quickbooks. However, when I use the alignment tool, I can't get everything to line up. How can I adjust the cheque template?

I've seen other posts online about this, for example this one from 2019 (!):

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/can-the-mailing-address-on-checks-...

I purchased cheques and envelopes from D+H through the Quickbooks portal just to be sure they would work with Quickbooks. But, frustratingly, it seems like Quickbooks only has one cheque template, and that template *does not* line up with cheques and envelopes ordered through Quickbooks.

If I use the alignment tool to shift printing down so that the dollar amount lines up, then the address sits too high for the window in the envelope and the information on the voucher panels below prints halfway between two panels.

There are posts two years old asking for a way to adjust the individual elements of a cheque. I am using the official Quickbooks cheques and envelopes from D+H, so I assumed the built-in template would work, but it doesn't. This could all be solved with an option to adjust the cheque template!

Hi there, flysight.

I wanna make sure that you can print your check with the right alignment.

We can ensure the check alignment if checks are purchase from Intuit.

These are the things that you need to do in printing check in QuickBooks Online.

  1. Make sure you go through the print checks setup so your printer and your checks line up right.
  2. Second, add checks to the print queue.

  3. Third, print checks from the print queue.

Here's how you can change the type of check you’re printing (standard or voucher), open the print set up and change your check type.

  1. Click+ New.
  2. Choose Print checks.
  3. Load your checks into the printer. Tip: you can do a test print on plain paper first to check the alignment so you don’t waste checks.
  4. Select the checking account that you created the check from the drop-down ▼.
  5. In the Starting check no. field, enter the check number of the first check in the printer.
  6. Click the checkbox next to each check you want to print.
  7. Choose Preview and print.
  8. If everything is correct, select Print.

I purchased cheques from D+H specifically for Quickbooks. However, when I use the alignment tool, I can't get everything to line up. How can I adjust the cheque template?

Hi Abegail--

I mentioned in the message you're replying to that I've already used the cheque alignment tool. The alignment tool only allows you to shift the whole page up/down/left/right. The problem is that the layout of the page generally doesn't match with Quickbooks' official cheques and envelopes ordered through D+H.

If I use the alignment tool to shift things so that the cheque amount is in the correct place, then the address winds up being too high for the window in the envelope. In addition, the text on the vouchers below the cheque gets shifted so that it sits across the perforated boundaries.

The problem requires more than a simple shift of the whole page, which is what the alignment tool does. What's needed is either:

1. To allow the user to modify the cheque template by moving individual components (e.g., the address) around, separate from other parts of the cheque. This would be the most versatile solution, and would allow users to work with cheques from any vendor. However, it's also the solution that is requested *many* times in the post I linked from 2019, so I'm guessing Quickbooks has "business reasons" for not doing this.

2. At the *very least*, Quickbooks should make sure that its own cheque template works with its official cheques and envelopes. Please--try printing a cheque using the official cheques from D+H, then put it in an envelope from D+H, and take a look at where the address sits in the clear window.

Please read my original message a little more carefully. This is a common issue which many users have written to Quickbooks about in the past two years.

Thank you for getting back to us and for sharing additional details about printing checks using the one you've bought from D+H, flysight.

Those checks may not be compatible with QuickBooks and need to be formatted. Depending on your printer set up, you may need to adjust the scale and page size.

Here's some common tips for adjust the scale for your tool:

  • Learn how to adjust print scale in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Learn how to adjust print scale in common Brother printers.
  • Learn how to scale or resize the printout in common HP printers (look for layout and formatting settings).
  • Learn how to adjust print scale in common Canon printers.

You can also troubleshoot printing checks and forms to help fine-tuning the alignment and fix the print alignment for preprinted checks.

Otherwise, I recommend buying a compatible one from our Intuit Store since these are already formatted. Please visit this link for additional information: QuickBooks Business Checks.

Also, you may contact our QuickBooks Live Support Team so they can isolate the printing issue that you've been through. Here's how you get in touch with them:

When I open Quickbooks Online, if I click on the gear icon and then click on "Order Cheques", it takes me to the D+H website. The cheques I ordered are the voucher cheques on that page, which has a header that reads "D+H" and "Intuit Quickbooks". Are you saying that these cheques--which are directly linked in the Quickbooks Online software and have the Quickbooks logo at the top of the page--are not compatible with Quickbooks?

I purchased cheques from D+H specifically for Quickbooks. However, when I use the alignment tool, I can't get everything to line up. How can I adjust the cheque template?

Hi MaryLandT--

Is there a particular reason why Quickbooks hasn't implemented customized changes to the cheque template in the past two years? This seems like a fairly straightforward thing--it's not much different from modifying the invoice template, for example--so it's not clear why it hasn't been done. If this were in place, all I'd have to do is bump the address down a quarter inch or so and I'd be done.

I've tried contacting technical support previously at the location you indicated. A few years ago I had to contact them, and I found them really helpful. But then a couple of days ago when I had to do it again, it was about ten minutes between responses from the agent, who said they were "helping" several people.

At this point, I feel really disappointed with Quickbooks support generally. Most of the replies here are clearly a copy-paste of basic alignment and printer adjustment instructions, which I've already tried. The problem is simply that some elements of the cheque template aren't quite where they should be. Fixing this should be as easy as editing the template, shouldn't it?

I wish I could make it better, @flysight.

Here in the Community, we're only able to help you resolve small technical issues and share steps needed while working with QuickBooks. Thus, particular update or implementation is based on the requests from our customers, like you, is mandated by our product developers.

Since you're still unable to fix your checks accordingly with the alignment tool, I highly recommend contacting our Customer Care Support. Even if you've reached out to them already, only our specialists have the tool to pull up your account and let our engineering team know this issue is persistent.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about when are you able to connect with our support: Contact QuickBooks Products and Services Support.

Lastly, I've also included this reference helpful for the steps in finding a check or bill payment not listed on the print queue: Bill payments or checks to print are missing.

If you have any other questions or clarifications with this, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.

I have never been as frustrated as I am now with printing. I usually just write out the few I need by hand, but I am trying to get a larger client on QBO, but if the printing just won't work, that's a problem. I have the same issues as flysight. Can't get everything lined up. I could do this in my 2011 version of Peachtree, and it was simple. Why does QBO net fix this? Seems almost all of the comments on printing are related to items not lining up. It isn't a matter of alignment, it is that all elements move together. Address is right, but then check amount is out of place. Adobe doesn't help with this either. What is the fix???
