QBO Plus to QBDT

Hello there, @Sahm11.

I'd be glad to guide you to back up your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Here's how:

Step 1Download QuickBooks Desktop.

  1. Download and install QuickBooks Desktop on your computer.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to File and select Close Company. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.

Note: You can only move data from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. Once you move it to Windows, you can convert it to QuickBooks for Mac.

Step 2Sign in to QuickBooks Online and download the migration tool.

  1. Sign in to the QuickBooks Online account you want to convert with a browser we support. Use your Intuit Account credentials.
  2. Select the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt.  The URL should say https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt. Then select Enter on your keyboard. Other support task links won't work during this process.
  3. You'll see Export Overview. Read the Export Overview. You can print out it if you'd like. Select Get Started.
  4. Select the Download tool to download the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
  5. Once you download the tool, launch the tool to install it and select Next.
  6. Accept the terms in the license agreement and select Next.
  7. Select Complete as the type of setup, then Next.
  8. Select Install, then Finish.

To proceed to Steps 3, 4, and 5, please refer to this article: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

On the other hand, If you are unable to access the link that you posted and are seeing a black page. I suggest opening an incognito window using keyboard shortcuts based on your browser to determine if the issue is related to your browser.

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers as an alternative which will provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

You'll additionally be able to find many useful resources about using QuickBooks in our help article archives.

Please feel free to drop a comment below, if you have further concerns about backuping your data or other QBO and QBDT-related concerns. I will answer them in any possible way.

@Sahm11

I'm not sure there is a file format with .qbdt.

You will get a converted file with the QB Desktop standard file format (i.e *.qbw)

You will need a QB Desktop program running on your machine when converting data from QB Online. Which year version do you have?

  2. Select the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt. The URL should say https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt. Then select Enter on your keyboard. Also, other support task links won't work during this process.
  3. You'll see an Export Overview Window, read the Export Overview, and select Get Started.
  4. Click the Download tool to download the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
  5. After downloading, launch the installer and run it.
  6. Follow the prompts to complete the installation process.

Once everything is all set and ready to migrate from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop, you can follow this article for the detailed steps: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop. You are right. I meant (*.qbb) which is QuickBooks Backup file which then I will upload into QBDT QuickBooks Desktop application.

Any idea how I can backup QBO QuickBooks Online PLUS and not ADVANCE, as I do not seem to be getting the backup page but only an empty page.

Following the link you provided https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt.

I get The Export view but only one line appears in it which says "You can also export reports to Excel to get Data out of Quickbooks Online Plus".

Image attached.

Does the Plus version allow for backup to be done to files such as .qbb or only can export to Excel ?

You have QBO US version, correct?

Which QB Desktop year version do you have to convert data from QBO?

I understand the importance of creating back in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Sahm11. Let me share what I know about it.

Creating a backup file in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is only available in the Advanced version. Since you're using QBO Plus, you have the option to export reports and lists into an Excel file. This way, you can save copies onto your computer's hard drive for future use.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Export data.
  2. On the Reports tab, set the date range.
  3. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by turning the switch on or off.
  4. Select Export to Excel.

You can check this article for more information on how to download your data: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have questions while saving a backup copy of your file. I'm just a few clicks away to help you again. Have a great day.

I can guide you through importing your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Sahm11.

The steps provided by my colleague above are the most convenient way to migrate QBO data into QBDT. Since you’re unable to proceed with the migration process due to an unknown reason, we can move them using a different procedure.

Given by steps provided by my peer, LeizylM in exporting QBO files, we can import them directly into your QBDT company file. Please take note that there are specific lists and transactions that you can bring into your desktop company file. Also, things may look different after you export your data. You can check out this article for reference: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Before we begin with the process, there’s also a need to install the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV toolkit to properly map your file. I’ll outline the steps below for your guidelines:

  1. Open the file download window for the toolkit, then select Save.
  2. Navigate to your Windows Desktop, and select Save.
  3. Tap the QuickBooks_Import_Excel_and_CSV.exe twice on your Windows desktop to open the WinZip Self-Extractor window.
  4. Hit Browse, and choose the folder where you want to install the toolkit, then OK.
  5. Unzip it to extract the contents, and select Close to close the WinZip Self-Extractor window.
  6. Open the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV folder from the location you selected in step 4.

I also added this article with thorough details: Import/export CSV files.

I'm adding the following write-up to help guide you in setting up your QuickBooks Desktop: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop. It contains steps from adding customers down to setting up your sales tax.

However, if you’re still unable to proceed with migrating your files, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team for further assistance. Our phone support has a tool that would help initiate a further investigation into why you’re QBO company file isn’t showing an option to migrate this directly to your QBDT. They can also assist you further through the conversion process.

Feel free to post back again if you have other questions about the conversion process or any QuickBooks related. I’d be more than willing to lend you a hand. Have a nice day!

Thank you for joining this thread, jenniehilligerinc.

Yes, there's a proper and convenient way to convert your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

To do this seamlessly, you can follow the detailed steps outlined above by my colleague @Clark_B. Yes, you will need to sign in first, then follow the instructions to generate the link (app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt) and download the migration tool. When exporting your data, you'll be asked if you want to export all company data or just the company data without transactions.

You can check out this article for the complete details about the process: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

I've also added this as an additional resource: Move lists and balances from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you still have other concerns or follow-up questions. I'll be around if you need my help.
