Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

Dear Moderator,

I cannot open Desktop Quickbooks,  and cannot request Help from Quickbooks.   Is there another way to contact Technical Support without being billed more.  I just paid over $800.00 for this software that I can't use...

Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

I have another way to contact our support without opening QuickBooks Desktop, @R Houghton. Happy to outline the steps to achieve your task.

Accessing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is my highest priority. This way, you can get back where you left off. Before routing you to our support team, may I ask the following question below:

  1. Did you receive any error messages while opening your QBDT account? If yes, can you provide the exact wording of the error in detail? This will help me check our reports and furnish you with other troubleshooting steps.
  2. Have you done the solutions outlined by my colleagues above? If not yet, I'd suggest doing so.

In addition, ensure that you and your client's computer meet the QBDT 2022 system requirements and have updated patches to help isolate the crash issue. Please note that QuickBooks requires you to use Windows natively and not through an emulator or virtual environment.

If the issue remains, our technical support is always welcome to investigate the problem further. Please know contacting our agent is free as long as you use our service. Proceed with the following steps:

  1. Go to this QBDT help link.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop and click Continue.
  3. Enter your concern in the box and tap Continue.
  4. Choose either Chat with us or Have us call you
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Make sure to contact them within business hours to ensure a swift response.

Moreover, you can use these articles if you've encountered an installation error and other related matters:

Please know that I'll be in my bunk if you require any other help running QuickBooks. Just drop me a line!

Thank you for the speedy response.   I did not receive an error.   I have already been through all of listed steps to resolve the issue which required many hours.   I am having the exact same issue as everyone on this posting.   I click to open QB, and the second it finishes opening it crashes (immediately closes without anything else popping up on the screen).  This is all versions, and my clients are also having the same issue.   It started right after updating.

Greatly appreciating your assistance,

Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

I'm pretty sure this is the cause of the issue, which started in June right around when the article says QuickBooks would start using a new internal browser: New built-in browser replaces IE 11 in QuickBooks Desktop on June 10, 2022

The new built-in browser is an open-source utility from a 3rd party, which IMO is a recipe for disaster.

Despite the claim in the article, "It’s reliable and will include critical security updates. Updates will be provided if and when they become available.", the versions of the utility current installed are quite old and have not been updated. And, it seems, not at all reliable.

Features like the Home page and various up-sell marketing windows that appear unannounced use the built-in browser - they're really local web pages.

We know that turning off the Home page in preferences helps with the crashing, and it could be that other crashes users are seeing are caused when they use features that use the build-in browser, or when QuickBooks tries to display marketing windows at seemingly random times.

Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

I received the notice today that the per-employee price is increasing 150% for the version of Desktop payroll we use.  And the price of Quickbooks desktop essentially tripled when they forced us onto the subscription model this year.

Lots of you probably already understood this but I had two revelations today.  One, Intuit is actively trying to price everyone out of Desktop and into Online.  Two, their pricing model depends on the accountants using Quickbooks so businesses have little choice.  Accountants don't have the time to deal with other bookkeeping programs or, heaven forbid, someone's homemade spreadsheets.  As long as Intuit makes its product the choice for accountants, businesses will follow.  That's why Desktop isn't fixed.  They just want everyone to be annoyed enough to flip over to Online - that's where they are putting their resources - to the extent they are putting resources into the products at all.  Most accountants I've talked to find online to be unreliable for the businesses, but a good choice for them.  slap the forehead emoji here

Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

I am a proadvisor running desktop 2019. I just opened my QB file FOUR times. It crashed after opening for NO REASON. This is happening in all of my clients who run QB desktop. Is this a push to get everyone to convert to QBO? I have never had this problem with 2019 until the past three months. It is extremely frustrating as it is a huge waste of time.

You're absolutely correct. We are having the same issues across 2020, 2021, and 2022. On top of that the transfer accountant copy does not work. Doesn't matter if it's sent thru Intuit server, saved on flash drive, or emailed. Probably a good time to look elsewhere...

I still believe IE11 is still one of the key factors and for some reason it doesn't work well on Win 10 Pro or Win 11 to date. Half of my team is still running QBD 2013-2021 with no issues on Win 10 Home. I'm running QBD 2018 and 2021 on Win 10 Home 21H2 19044 smoothly so far. As I mentioned earlier, they will be releasing QBD 2023 next month and that will be the moment of truth of their commitment to fix this annoying problem.

I'm an IT consultant, and I guarantee you none of my customers are moving to QBO. Half of them already moved out to a software called Drake Accounting (pretty good actually), and the other half of them are waiting on QB2023 to make the decision to jump ship. This is probably one of the most catastrophic handling of a technical difficulty by any tech company that I know of.

I encourage everyone to look for alternative accounting software since this problem apparently wont go away, because like Wideopenspaces said, they are forcing everyone into QBO, which is obviously so unethical given that they already increased the cost of QB like crazy in the past year.

Are they releasing a Desktop 2023? I read they were going to make it a subscription based service like QBO. My clients do NOT want a subscription-based service. They want the desktop software they have used in the past.  I have used QB since 2005 but I am seriously having to research other bookkeeping software now as my clients do not want to make a switch.  I do not understand why they are pushing QBO when so many people want to continue with a download/disk desktop service, and not a subscription-based service.

I have one client who uses online, and it is horrible.  It is cumbersome, difficult to move around, cannot have more than one window open, and does not have the reporting capability that my clients need.

@ShellyWMA

You can still purchase the one time license for QBD 2021 or QBD 2022 Accountant edition. They will only offer subscription licenses for QBD 2023.

Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

Hi there, @Onpoint System S.

Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and share information about turning off the home page in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Turning off the home page in QBDT can only be done by going to the Preferences menu. The option to do it without getting to that menu is currently unavailable.

You can follow the steps shared by @Brian7501 above for the detailed steps on how do it.

You can check out this article and proceed to the Company and Personal Preferences section for other options you can modify in the Preferences menu: Resolve QuickBooks Desktop performance issues: Manage your data file.

For more tips and other resources, I recommend visiting our website for future reference: QBDT Self-help articles.

Please post again or leave a comment below if you have additional questions about this or anything else QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Take care.

For any IT departments out there dealing with this issue, I found this issue does not occur when running in an RDS environment on Windows Server 2019.  It is only happening on Windows 10 devices.

Has anyone had this problem on Windows 11?

PeteSL

Yes, it happens on Windows 11.  Windows 11 is the equivalent to Windows Server 2022, not 2019.

I was having the same problem with 2 company files in Desktop Pro Plus 2022.  I would open them, supply the password, it would bring up the interface and then 30 seconds later crash.

I was able to do steps recommended in this thread and posted below by first creating a new test company.  I gave it just enough information for me to open that company with no issue and immediately went into the edit -> preferences menu and make the changes.  I closed that company, opened my existing and it stayed up long enough for me to adjust the preferences on my real companies.  Now all is good.

Settings to change from previous posters:

1. Disable "Show home page when opening a company file" option.
Edit | Preferences | Desktop View | My Preferences.

2. Also Select "Don't save the desktop"
Edit | Preferences | Desktop View | My Preferences.

3. Check: Turn off pop-up messages for products and services.
Edit | Preferences | General | My Preferences
