InteXX: Thank you sir for providing the only real information on this post. Your last statement, "Intuit's executives are fixed at the helm of an abusive monopoly.", cuts to the very heart of the problem.
I just started having this problem today. :/
Hope they get their shizzle figured out because I have 2 company files to deal with besides our personal one. WTH QB!
Hello all! I wanted to share the following thread where we are also tracking this issue. The accepted solution (pinned just below the original question) has more information on the ongoing investigation and how to get updates from our support team.
Thank you for sharing your updates here so we can continue to assess the impact of these crashes.
Where is the button to " turn off your option for the left navigation bar to display." (as mentioned in the referenced post)?
I don't see it in QB2021.
You can turn it off from the top bar options. Select View, then choose Hide or choose a different location to put the bar, but not sure if that will eliminate the problem.
I just uncovered and maybe this has been mentioned or found by someone else already. I decided to hide the icon bar that has the advertising in the bottom left of the desktop and the problem has gone away. No more crashes at startup. I also did the same on all the workstations and done. :)
This thread is not "SOLVED". I turned off the left navigation bar. It worked for few days...... and now my Quickbook 2021 started crashing again.
Turning off the left navigation bar does not seem to be the answer to the problem.
Correct solution to this problem is somewhere in between:
Yes, I am joking of course but very frustrated with the lack of attention to this issue from QB development team.
Tbrown12 - is correct in a sense. The issue is Quickbooks is pushing advertisement content that is not compatible with the embedded CEF browser in QB Desktop. This causes an unhandled exception error which crashes the application. You can hide your advertisement bars, but in my experience, they just come back on the next startup. Or you can do what was suggested earlier and just block access the hosts that are pushing the bad content by modifying your host file until Quickbooks can address it.
At least you still have a since of humor. :)
The lack of attention is scary. :(
I would like to second your experiences. My issue is that sometimes Desktop completes the startup r outines and sometimes it does not. It just terminates and disappears from the screen. I have spent way too many hours on the phone with ineffective technical support. In the end they just told me that "It's a know problem and wait for a future patch." Sounds like skating on ice. Not a good way to run a company.
Welcome to the Community, InnFlyingClub.
I reviewed our ongoing investigation about this and can confirm it's still being researched by Intuit's Product Investigations team.
If you haven't been added to our investigation, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team and referencing its case number (INV-74349). This will enable you to receive email notifications about any updates relating to the it.
Working with our Customer Care team will also help Intuit to collect the data necessary to conduct further research into what's causing QuickBooks to crash.
They can be reached while using QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
As a workaround, you can turn off your computer's internet and make some changes to QuickBooks. This will allow you to use the program as normal:
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a lovely day!
Have you not seen my reply from yesterday? Turning off left navigation bar did not work for me. It seem to work for few days but then my QB2021 started crashing again.
Turning off left navigation bar is NOT a solution..... at least not for QB2021.
If you get desperate, try this - disconnect your network connection (pull the cable, disable adapter, etc.) and then start the Desktop application on your PC. On one occasion when I couldn't get the application to start this worked for me. Made me wonder if there's a communication timeout between the application and the software licensing or marketing servers.
Intuit is smart. Months have passed. If this was hurting their bottom line it would have been fixed promptly. Accidental or not this is surely helping them get users to shift over to QB Online. I don't condone that behavior but ultimately they have the market cornered. Losing an insignificant fraction of fed up users to other products was probably factored in long ago. Disappointing. The fix I posted two months ago is still holding strong for me... so far.
Hi there, yfegade.
I understand that turning off the left navigation bar didn't work for you. Our Product Team is already working to fix QuickBooks from crashing.
You can contact our QuickBooks Desktop Team so they can add your account to the investigation. That way, you'll receive updates via email once fixed.
Don't hesitate to post again if you have other QuickBooks concerns. The Community forum is always open to answer your questions.
yeah I did. Figured yours must me a different issue than mine. I haven't had a crash in over a week now. Everything is working fine after I hid the bar. Good luck.
We've had very good results with this solution, using details first posted on the community by MasterBlaster
This one appears to work, except for #127.0.0.1 accounts.intuit.com which blocks Quickbooks Online. (so better keep that # at the beginning) and also one of those lines will bring a Subscription Expired error message after a week or two.
Still waiting for that update...
I can't get help from inside the QB program if it crashes and won't open.
This seems to be fixed in QB Desktop 2023. I disabled my hosts file filter and it hasn't crashed on startup yet
Hello there, @Janetccc. I'm here to help you connect with our phone support team. Follow along below to get this done right away.
No worries when having trouble contacting our QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Technical support team within the program, you can reach out to them via a web browser. Here's how:
I've also attached here this helpful resource that you can access at any time for additional guides and reference when performing your QuickBooks tasks: QBDT Help page. From there, you can see a list of articles specific to QBDT.
Please let me know how this goes. I'd appreciate any details you can provide. If there's anything else you want to know about managing your QBDT account, don't hesitate to post again here. I'm just around the corner and ready to help. Have a good one and keep safe.
I also wanted to say that this worked, however like r_sotojr mentioned, blocking accounts.intuit.com blocks Quickbooks Online and we had ProSeries and QB subscription issues with one of the other lines after a week or so. The silence from QB support is unreal on this and the canned responses are comical at this point.
