Another question, would i be able to use my stand alone 2019 qb version with Gusto? i did already purchase the online download (referred by my accountant after lots of research unable to find payroll adequate) i thought about using til subscription runs out, I haven't rebuilt my books yet, waiting on accountant to finish taxes first, but i have bought...will i be able to go back to my old version of 2019 maybe next year?
@Cmerchant I believe you should be able to use Gusto with QB 2019, since all Gusto does is export numbers into a text file with corresponding account numbers for QB. Then you just import that .IIF text file into QB. So the version of QB should not matter. And I believe even newer QB versions have an .IIF import bug that they will not fix. Something about selecting the manual import or select the import without verification or something like that and then you use the old import code that works instead of their new buggy import method.
Once your .QBW database file is updated to a newer version of QB, it is most difficult to open it in an older version of QB. I believe your only option is a 3rd party purchase to have them downgrade the file so 2019 would be able to open it. Of course Intuit does not provide this feature because it goes against their money grab business strategy. So once you open your 2019 file in any version newer, it will rebuild it to that version. Any changes in the file stay with that newer version of QB. So think wisely about what you want to do before being locked out of your owned 2019.

Here's one for y'all:
By business owner from COVID DIED in January. We closed the doors after February and I am locked out of my QB Desktop 2021 Premier Plus (which we didn't need) because we didn't renew. I had 2013 version FOREVER without renewing. Wish I still had it! We still are in the building until a trustee is named. I still have to have electricity & internet for our alarm system, so I still have to track that - not to mention closing out the company with the accountant end of year. Because the industry that I am in takes a lot of special licensing this could take MANY more months to be finished. There is no income. I haven't been paid in almost two months. AND INTUIT WILL NOT WORK WITH ME EVEN THOUGH I HAVE OFFERED TO PROVIDE THE DEATH CERTICATE. They offered a 30 day free trial. USELESS. I can't tell you how disappointed I am in INTUIT. We haven't used anything that would have required the upgrade. Chat didn't help. Phone support with a "supervisor" didn't help. Again - USELESS.
I would like to agree with MrTom4 on the continued confusion on the desktop subscription. I have been a QB's user since Quicken was the only product. I have grown with the versions, and have MANY friends and family with business who reach out to me with questions. Most do not do payroll and those who do, have QB's online, or another service. I have been forced for 2 years to pay this very high subscription upgrade due to poor customer service at Intuit, and my ability to cancel the annual subscription without disrupting access. I am not even installing my 1 user version on multiple computers. All persons I help have purchased their own licenses.
Now I am bombarded with questions as they continue to get "You must login into your Intuit Account" before logging into QuickBooks, and are now getting auto renew reminders, as am I, that their credit cards will be charged. Despite the replies on how easy it is to manage your subscription in the website, I have found no easy way to do this, and trust me I have tried. You can certainly access the credit card information and update that, it won't let you leave the site, if you remove any credit card info. Forget getting a person on the phone that is helpful. My saving grace is the card on file they force you to put in expires, so I ought to be able to speak to a representative then. Since I recommended QB's for more than half the persons using it, I feel obligated to try and stop this hostage holding of "renew or you can't use" attitude for software we own, and DOES NOT need to be upgraded yet!
If you are still using QBD 2021, you can still purchase the one time license for it and cancel your QBD Plus subscription.
I am on 2021, and that's great, however I am not having any luck through the CAMP site.
Hi, @db in lg.
I appreciate you joining this conversation. Allow me to hop in and share information about the QuickBooks Pro Plus subscription.
The current annual renewal for this service with no payroll is $349.99 (1 user license). This may change if you have multiple licenses or a payroll bundled with the software.
Please refer to this article link to see the actual and discounted pricing of our Pro Plus service: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/pro/.
If you need more clarification with billing, I highly suggest contacting our Support team. They have tools that can pull up your account in a secure environment and provide the full details of your bill and the exact renewal amount you will pay next cycle.
Here's how to reach them:
Phone support may be limited due to volume. To see their support hours, check out this article: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

And where do you expect people to find these "one time licenses"? eBay? Good luck with the scalpers, $600+ the last I checked, and that's one with 0 bids so far. Everyone's snatching these up like they were toilet paper in March 2020. There's one for $1,349.96! Hurry while supplies last! /s
Does my subscription automatically renew when It is due? I should have a card on file.
Good day, fc1213.
You have the option to renew your subscription automatically. I'm here to guide you through the process.
Make sure your billing information is valid and current to ensure that the system will renew it automatically. Here's how:

I have desktop pro plus 2021 w/ two company files.
I switched to online with my main company. But the other company is not used very much, but every once in a while I need to go back to look at some past transactions.
Are you saying I won't be able to open or view any of my data after the desktop subscription ends?
You can utilize the trial version for QB Desktop 2021-2023 to open your file if required.
I can share some insights of what will happen to your QuickBooks Desktop company file after cancellation, @mafrif.
If you're using the stand-alone license (3 years), yes you can still access the file even if you won't resubscribe to the product. It simply indicates that the program can only be used for manual tracking and storing business data. However, you won't be able to access online services and security updates such the ones listed below:
On the other hand, this is a different scenario if you're using the Pro Plus (annual) version, you will no longer be able to use or access your QBDT account. Your company file will remain on your computer, but you'll need to reactivate the service to open or view the data.
You can also check his article, which offers thorough details on the QuickBooks Desktop cancellation policies: QuickBooks Desktop cancelation policies.
Before canceling your QuickBooks Desktop account, it's a good idea to save a company back up file. In that case, you can offer a QBB business file to restore on an active subscription during an audit. For additional information, read the page titled "file types and extensions used by QuickBooks Desktop."
I will always be one click away if you have further questions about QuickBooks Desktop. Have a good one!
I am using pro plus now.
I also still have my 2018 and 2015 pro desktop versions on my computer and are "active" under the quickbooks products and services tab.
Is it possible to revert my current company file back to the 2018 version so I can still look at my previous data?
Is it possible to revert my current company file back to the 2018 version so I can still look at my previous data?
No.
If Intuit wonders why they are one of the most hated companies out there, this is a perfect example. Force me to convert to pro plus, then force me to online, and then not even let me look at MY previous data, even though I have two "active" licenses.
Absolutely disgusting.
New year might start with a new accounting software.
This isn't the impression we want you to have and I wish you didn't went through this, @mafrif.
As mentioned by Fiat Lux - ASIA, the option to revert the current company file to the 2018 version is unavailable.
If you decide to use your previous version of QuickBooks, what we can do is restore your 2018 file, then re-enter the current data or transactions.
Here's how:
For more information, please see this article: Restore your file. It also include some insights what to do if you can't find the mapped network drive.
Additionally, since you can’t export transactions or merge company files in QuickBooks Desktop, you can use a different application as an alternative solution.
I'm also adding this resource you can utilize to learn about company file compatibility to avoid issues and errors when you upgrade QuickBooks Desktop: Company file compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop when upgrading.

If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, I can recommend another one. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
If you didn't want customers to go through this, don't change the yearly subscription fee from $200 to over $500 in one year, its that simple.
For 20 years, I have highly recommended the use of QB Desktop for Small Business to all of my friends, family and coworkers. As a very loyal user of QB Desktop since 2001, I can't tell you how disappointed I am to find out that the 2021 Pro Plus software that I bought was not Subscription Optional, but has now become Subscription Mandatory. I am used to purchasing this product, using it exclusively on my desktop, and not having to upgrade or purchase the latest version for at least 3 years. How utterly shocked I have been made today after 1 customer service agent call and 2 separate Chat agent conversations to find out that because I purchased the 2021 version, I am now stuck having to make an incredibly expensive annual subscription purchase of over $500 in order to keep being able to access my company files from now on. Because that was not made clear on the packaging, I would call this a "bait and switch" marketing practice. If I had known, I would have kept using my 2019 version with the understanding that no updates will occur. The Desktop has been such a wonderful product for my companies, and this new system has ruined that. I do not use any of the subscription add ons, nor am I interested in putting my business online. What a horrible FORCED business practice you have now subjected this loyal customer to without ample and clear warning. Very disappointed and blindsided. Your customer service agent did the best he could. But even he quoted me a subscription price of @$300 when it turned out to be $533, more than twice the usual price of purchasing QB. You all should consider extending grace to you existing customers caught up in this change and give a $300 credit for the inconvenience of all of this. Your Chat agents Jessa Marie and Arneil did they best they could to assist on the Chats. They stayed on the Chat for several hours with me until I understood what had happened and ultimately assisted with my new FORCED subscription, otherwise I would lose access to my Company Files in 4 days.
