I'm here to share some steps to help you fix the error, the_tile_setters.

QuickBooks Desktop uses Internet Explorer as the default browser. When you're getting a script error, It's possible that a web page issue is preventing you from opening the program.

Let's try to configure your Internet Explorer by following these steps:

  1. Open your Internet Explorer.
  2. From the Command Bar, select Tools.
  3. Choose Internet Options and go to the Security tab.
  4. Click Trusted Sites, and select Sites.
  5. In the Add this website to the zone field, enter *.intuit.com and click Add.
  6. In the Trusted sites window, un-check Require server verification.
  7. Close the Trusted sites window, and un-check Enable Protected Mode.
  8. Close the browser.

Once done, open your QuickBooks Desktop again.

I appreciate for reporting this script error you've encountered, Krisco17.

I'm here to ensure that we work together to resolve this error.

You can install the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub to help resolve script errors, as well as common issues such as installation problems, network connectivity errors, and company file issues. Before proceeding, ensure to create a backup copy of your company file to help protect from accidental loss due to hardware failure, data corruption, or other unforeseen issues.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or Windows desktop). Note: If you've installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The version will be on the bottom.
  3. Open the downloaded file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the tool and accept the terms and conditions.
  5. Once the installation is complete, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to launch the tool hub.

In addition, I've added this resource on restoring a backup copy as your future reference: Restore a backup of your company file.

You can count on me whenever you need further about resolving errors in your QuickBooks account.

Thank you for sharing the version of your QuickBooks, Duncan. Let's add Intuit as a trusted website in your settings that will help fix this prompt error.

The error is caused by using a discontinued version of QuickBooks, and a damaged Windows user profile or disabled script processing tools features. To fix this, let's add Intuit as a trusted site to allow QuickBooks to connect to Intuit's servers without restrictions.

Here’s how:

  1. Press WindowsR, and type inetcpl.cpl, press Enter, and from under Settings, go to the Security tab.
  2. Under the Trusted Sites section, add *Intuit.com as a trusted website and return to the Trusted Sites window.
  3. Now unmark the Require server verification (https option.
  4. Exit the Trusted Sites window and unmark the Enable Protected Mode option.
  5. Close the internet settings and rerun QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting the Live Support team. They can perform share screening to take a look at this further in a secure environment and be able to rectify the problem promptly.

Since you're using a discontinued version. I suggest upgrading to a newer version to enjoy new features, improved performance, and enhanced security forward, Check this article for more details: Upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2024.
