Investing in another business that does not do the same work(cleaning services) as what we are doing now(HVAC) Can I sell the license to an older version that we do not use anymore for that business? or will QB in their almighty greediness put a kabosh on it.
Do you have 2 non-subscription licenses with different years or else?
Let me help you transfer your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) license, @Bullseye001.
There are only certain situations where Intuit allows a user to transfer their QBDT license to a new owner. To begin the process, you'll need to fill out and submit the Transfer a License form. After submitting the form, you'll receive an email notification within 24 to 48 hours regarding the status of your QB license transfer request.
Here are the specific circumstances in which Intuit allows you to change the ownership of QuickBooks software:
To request a license transfer, you can log in to your CAMPS account and fill out the QuickBooks Transfer a License Form.
If a business is sold to a new user along with all its assets, both parties must complete and sign the (TOL) QuickBooks Transfer of License Form. Additionally, Intuit requires a Notarized Bill of Sale to be signed and submitted by both parties.
Should you have any other concerns regarding transferring your QBDT license, please reply below. We're here to help in any way we can.
Help, need additional details on the transfer of license... I'm attempting to facilitate a transfer of a multi-user Quickbooks Desktop Pro from a Local Business to my Non-profit Church for use in its accounting.
My name is Richard - the owner of SoTxComputers and we have been using Quickbooks for a long long time in my business, and I am currenty running a single user version in my business. And I previously transfered my multi-user version of Quickbooks to another church about 16 years ago where I was Head of the Finance Committee, for their use in doing their accounting.
My Senior Pastor of my current church has just turned 74 years old and has been doing the church accounting with the assistance of Sylvia a church Member and Head of Missions, apparently in the old school method on Monthly Paper Spreadsheets/List. This will soon fall to me, in which I'm also an ordained minister of the church, Secretary of the Incorporated Body, Head of the Deacons, and I don't believe in doing accounting on paper. Therefore, We need a multi-user version of Quickbooks Desktop, to setup at the Church on a PC, I will setup for her access and input, and my review and reporting on the laptop I use at the church. We will not need payroll or any other online feature which would be expired in a Desktop Version 2020, I know.
Kristin - the office manager of Trio- the local company where my Company has for years supplied computer service and support, Said they would be glad to donate their 3 user Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020; They since have moved on to Enterprise Versions... I researched the procedure and directed her to submit the Transfer of License form and supplied the Church information, Name, Address, Email and TaxID information. And She said Intuit came back and said they couldn't transfer the 2020 license cause the Church didn't have a Account ( presumably an Intuit Account??) with no other instructions...
Clearly this Non-Profit Church Doesn't Have an Intuit Account, has never used Quickbooks before or in the 14 years I have been there, and so Its unclear how to proceed... Am I suppose to attempt to create a new account with Their Pro 2020 license... Doesn't seem to be the right answer to me... I doubt we can setup an account (register with Quickbooks) without a license key... Please help... This again should be an easy task, but its been back and forth for weeks... for an Accepted Purpose
I looked up the email thread for complete clarity and this is Specifically the Response - Kristen said, "Intuit QuickBooks called me this afternoon and said that they cannot transfer our QuickBooks Pro-2020 license because Central Revivals Church isn't registered with them. They said that the church needs to create an account (register) with QuickBooks and then give me their account number so that I can generate a new request to transfer the license."
Thanks, Richard
Ask Kristin to login to her CAMPS and check their license code there.
Is she using the same CAMPS to manage the license of QB Desktop 2020 Pro for 3 users and QB Desktop Enterprise?
I appreciate the detailed narration of this specific scenario in QuickBooks Desktop, RichTheComputerGuy. Allow me to provide further details about how QBDT license transfer works.
The sole way to transfer the license is by subscribing and setting up a new account. Since the nonprofit church lacks an Intuit Account, it is advisable to add the church as a user in the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPs) for QBDT. This will provide access to crucial product details, including the license. If access is not possible, you can retrieve the license number, product code, or activation code from your previous accountant for installation purposes.

I am in the process of selling my business and I would like to transfer my QB license for Desktop Enterprise to the new owner. I have read about completing the TOL form. I have a couple of other questions?
1. What is the timing of this? We are in the final stages and will close in the next couple of weeks. Can we complete the form now and set a date in the future for the transfer to take place?
2. Is there a similar process for I could do for my QB Online Payroll?
I'm happy to answer your questions about transferring of QuickBooks Desktop License and QuickBooks Online Payroll, @runsantafe. I'll add my recommendations to help you achieve your goal.
For your first question, after you submit the Transfer a License form, expect to receive an email within 24 to 48 hours regarding the status of your request. If you are selling your business, both you and the new user must sign the Notarized Bill of Sale and submit the transfer form.
You can also initiate the license transfer directly by logging into CAMPS.
For transfers scheduled for a future date, I recommend contacting our Live Support Team for assistance.
Regarding your last question, you can easily transfer your QuickBooks Online Payroll account by adding the new user with the Company admin role. After that, you can change their role to Primary admin. Please note that you must first sign in as the primary admin before transferring that role to the new user.
Here's how:
An email will be sent to the new user to activate their account. If they already have a QuickBooks Online user ID, they can use it; otherwise, they will need to create one. After setup, the current Master Administrator should log out and log back in to transfer the role.
