Buy nowGood morning,
I am having some difficulty regarding the upgrades to my QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021. I see or it seems to be that the push is to the Online version. I am a little skeptical about making this move. In my 2021 version I have 6 other companies I manage. It seems that the switch to the Online version will require a separate account for each at a fee for each. I enjoy the freedom to switch between accounts as I do with the 2021 version.
It appears that I can upgrade to the 2025 desktop version, however, I see no links to do so. All links seem to send me to sign up or subscribing to the Online versions. From some articles I read, I have until the end of 7/24 to upgrade or make a change.
Any advice, suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

if I do not upgrade and keep using QB21 what is the downside? I do not want to compromise my accounts by having outdated software.
If you don't need to run any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment), you should stay with your QB Desktop 2021. If you need to run the bank feed feature, you may have 2 options. There is nothing to worry about if you are using an outdated version of QB Desktop.
what is the reason that QB/Intuit are not selling the upgraded versions to U.S. markets?
What do you mean with the "upgraded" version? You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 US version. The thing is, you won't easily get Pro Plus or Premier Plus because their real intention is to force you to upgrade to QB Desktop Enterprise or switch to QB Online.
There is no QB Desktop 2025 Pro or Premier. As I know Intuit will release QB Desktop 2025 Enterprise on schedule. You can purchase QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus to upgrade your data. You must call Intuit Sales team to purchase. Another option, contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA to purchase a legit license + you can get $100 cashback.
Let me share how we can upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop 2021, Richard.
@Deity Alpha is right. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2025 is still unavailable. However, you can upgrade your QBDT 2021 to QBDT 2024.
To start the process, make sure you've purchased the QBDT 2024. If not, contact our Sales Support to buy it. You can find their contact number at the top right corner of this article: Can't buy QuickBooks Desktop as a new US subscriber.
Once you've got the QBDT 2024, get your license number ready. Then follow these steps:
Once done, open QuickBooks and activate it. For more details, please refer to this article: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.
Moving forward, you are correct that you'll need a separate subscription for your companies if you want to migrate to QuickBooks Online.
Moreover, please refer to the first article I've provided to learn why you have until January 2024 to upgrade your subscription.
After you've completed the upgrade, don't forget to update your company file so you can use it with your new QBDT Pro 2024 version.
Let me know if you need any more help with the upgrade process. Keep safe.
Thank you for your reply.
The way I see it, I can upgrade to QB 2024 and continue using the version as I do now with QB21, using and accessing my other company files if I choose to upgrade.
New question(s) is/are, if I do not upgrade and keep using QB21 what is the downside? I do not want to compromise my accounts by having outdated software. Second question is, what is the reason that QB/Intuit are not selling the upgraded versions to U.S. markets? Just curious.
I will need to contemplate the switch to QB Online some more.
Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you very much for your assistance with this question.
Get avanquest bookeeper its much cheaper and similar to quickbooks.
I received a message on 1/23/25 that it will cost $999 to upgrade from 2024 to 2025 Quickbooks Pro for 1 year. I contacted Intuit and scheduled a meeting with a representative. The representative sent an invitation for today at 10:30-11 and that representative forgot the appointment. He did not call and I made sure I was available for the call. I tried the online version a few years ago and some data did not transfer to the online version.
Accuracy is important with bookkeeping. I spent hours on the phone (at least 12 hrs total with 3 reps.) and my data was transferred to a data center where they said they would fix the issue. That did not happened. I was told it could not be fixed. I am looking at other options at this time because $999 is a big price to pay for a year's use of their software. I don't want to waste hours on the phone again and get no result. I am quite disappointed with Intuit. The 2024 software desktop works very well and I love it - I don't care for the service and the price to upgrade to 2025.
I wanted to upgrade from QB Desktop 2021 to a newer version. I was quite disappointed to find there was not an option other than the online version. After posting the question on how to update, I received a telephone call from someone claiming to be from QuickBooks with an upgrade option, however he would need to have access to my computer. At first I thought okay, but then after thinking about it decided this might be a scam. The caller called again, I did not take the call. Instead I tried the number and could not get through. Needless to say, I was correct in my assumption.
This however did not resolve my desire to upgrade only because as is the case with the recent post that I do not wish to jeopardize my clients accounts with an out of date program that may have issues due to age without a possible resolution.
I have been involved with a QB Online conversion from the Desktop version and it was not very successful. I have been a QB Desktop user for a long time and still learning what I can do with it. Changing to online is just something that I am very hesitant in doing.
With all of this said, has there been any further discussion within the Intuit corporation of providing a QB desktop upgrade. Hopefully, this post will not generate another scammer trying to make contact.
Thank you to the members and QB support for this open community and answers to many of my questions. This is has always been of great help.
Great decision on not permitting external access to your computer, @jdrichardson. It's important to prioritize the security and up-to-date maintenance of your client accounts, especially given the hurdles you've encountered moving from the Desktop to the Online version.
I see you're interested in upgrading from QuickBooks Desktop to a newer version. QuickBooks Enterprise would be a great alternative for enhancing your current desktop solution. It's specifically designed to meet the needs of users looking for advanced features and improvements.
Just a reminder, QuickBooks will discontinue sales of the following products after September 30, 2024:
This change will only affect new subscription purchases. However, existing subscribers will still be able to renew their subscriptions beyond this date.
Also, it's worth noting that QuickBooks Enterprise won't be impacted by this decision. Both new and existing Enterprise customers can continue to purchase or renew their subscriptions through phone sales representatives and online after the specified date.

You can find an old QB Desktop with a non subscription license. You don't need to renew your 2024 if you don't need to run any add-ons. You can also use a rd party payroll app if required.
You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus or Premier Plus if needed with a workaround. The question is why would you consider upgrading to a subscription license?
We have Desktop Pro 2024 and payroll subscription and were assured that we were 'grandfathered' in and would not have to migrate to the Enterprise Edition.
Now they have turned off our desktop subscription and appears we have no choice. Help!
Thanks for joining this thread, kimlef. I appreciate your detailed information.
QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Pro 2024 subscriptions are currently supported by Intuit and not yet being discontinued. When discontinuation occurs, Intuit will notify you in advance (through email, in-product notifications, the mail, and our website).
With this said, your QBDT Pro 2024 software is currently fully supported by Intuit.
To verify my understanding, could you explain how Intuit has turned off your QBDT Pro 2024 subscription? Any screenshots you can provide will help me to better understand what you're encountering.
In regard to being grandfathered into a QBDT Pro 2024 subscription, can you confirm to me who informed you of this (an agent here in the Community, our chat/phone support team, or etc.)?
I've also included a detailed resource about Intuit's official service discontinuation policy which may come in handy moving forward: QuickBooks service discontinuation policy
I'll be looking forward to your reply. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
They will support QB Desktop 2024 + Enhanced Payroll until 2027 as long as your license is active. You can renew it through a partner + you can get a $200 discount. Otherwise, switch to an old QB Desktop with a non subscription license + Payroll Mate.
@jdrichardson what are the options to run the bank feeds, I have the 2021 premier edition and its not letting me do the bank feeds anymore.
You can use TP Importer as a workaround. It's a $199 one time license.

You can get a license for free through a reseller (T&C apply). Another option, you can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2022 as a workaround.
I've been using QuickBooks desktop for decades. I now have the 2022 version, but have paid subscription fees through August 2025. Today, when I was using QuickBooks desktop, I saw a notice in the bottom left corner that all support will stop for all desktop versions after May 31 2025, contrary to what Intuit promised multiple times to existing users of the desktop version. I do not use extra features such as payroll, and I have no interest in the online version, having tried it in the past.
Is there a way to keep using QuickBooks desktop after May 31 2025? thanks
You can still use QB Desktop 2022 after May 2025 but without support. You may consider upgrading to QB Desktop 2024 for free if needed. Alternatively, you can switch to old QB Desktop with a non-subscription license before the renewal date in August 2025.
You can no longer keep your QuickBooks after May 31, 2025, since it will be discontinued, pennaeire. Let me discuss this further and provide an alternative to help you achieve your goal.
Your access to Live Technical Support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services through QuickBooks Desktop 2022 will end after May 31, 2025. Additionally, you will not receive important security updates to safeguard your data beginning June 1, 2025.
These are the products affected by service discontinuation after May 31, 2025:
Additionally, current subscribers of QuickBooks Desktop Plus and Desktop Enterprise are eligible for version 2024 as an exclusive benefit of their annual subscription plan at no additional cost. As one of those subscribers, you can upgrade your version quickly and easily.
For detailed information, ensure to check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop 2022 service discontinuation policy.
After you've completed the upgrade, don't forget to update your company file so you can use it with your new QBDT Pro 2024 version.
I'm still ready to back you up if you need more help regarding your subscription. I'll keep the thread open so you can comment back.
Intuit never do what they say they will. I have called 3 times (almost two hours each time) to resolve a class tracking issue which doesnt work), last call I was promised a call back in one hour, that was 4 hours ago and Im still waiting. QBO is garbage, released way too early with too many bugs and then they cancel every other version that does work! Money grab! Im on the hunt for something that works and I can feel confident that the numbers I am looking at are what they should be.

Why don't you switch back to QB Desktop?
I have Desktop for my own books but had to get QBO for clients
We are a very simple retail business that does not need sophisticated accounting programs. When we first started using computerized Bookkeeping software about 10 years ago QB was pretty much the only game in town that offered reasonable accounting needs at a fairly affordable price for our small business. We currently use QB Pro Plus 2022 Desktop and are now facing the discontinuation of this version as of May 31, 2025. We will not upgrade to the new version as suggested by QB for two reasons. One we don't use or need many of the features in the newer versions. But, primarily, the reason is the cost. My question is, will we still be able to post transactions in out current version after the May deadline or will it be blocked? I realize we will not be able to use the payroll add on and we will not receive support or updates. But, will we physically able to post to our QB and get reports.?
