The credit card number is all that changed...
Thanks for checking out the Community space, rgh9850-.
I'm here to share some information about updating credit card numbers.
If a credit card number is changed, you'll have to disconnect and then reconnect your updated account from the Banking page. This way, QuickBooks can re-establish a new connection to that account.
Additionally, please know that your existing accounting data won't change even if you disconnect your account. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague, MaryLurleenM to be guided in doing the process.
I've also included an article that will help you streamline the review process of your bank transactions: Setup bank rules to categorize online banking transactions.
The Community Team always has your back, so please don't hesitate to leave us a comment below if you need more help in managing your bank transactions.
Thank you! I just used your instructions and all is well in my world!
I'm having a similar problem, however as a new user, my new CC is linked, but the same CC but with a different # (changed due to fraudulent charges) that I previously had will not load transactions. The only transactions I see are from the past two months since my bank updated my CC #. Please advise, thank you!
Hello, @z1435. I'll make sure you can reconnect your credit card after the number has change.
You have to disconnect the credit card and then reconnect it again with the updated details.
Here's how:
Then, reconnect account with the new credit card number:
Also, know that it will only download 90 days' worth of transactions. If it doesn't download the needed period, you can manually add transactions using a CSV file.
Here's how:

Hi all,
Help!
Quickbooks Desktop Pro.
I disconnected online services, updated my credit card with a new CC number, BUT, when I go to "Set up Bank feeds", and enter my bank, user and pass, the OLD credit card number is still there.
I just want to keep my existing account, change the CC number, keeping the same past and current transactions.
Help! How do I get rid of my old CC number?
Thanks,
D
Let's perform some troubleshooting steps so you can update the account number, DS57.
There's a possibility that the update didn't go through. You'll want to update QuickBooks and get its latest features and functions.
Here's how:
Once done, restart QuickBooks for updates to take effect. Then, follow these steps again to change the account number.
If it isn't updating, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Live Team. That way, they can check this for you and provide additional steps to get this fixed.
Once your account is connected again, QuickBooks will start downloading bank transactions. All you need to do is categorize and match them.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with updating the credit card information. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.
It is now 6-7 months after you solved it issue of the OP, I have the same issue, but your instructions dont seem to work for me. Mainly because I can't find the specific steps that you showed to follow. Either I'm missing a step at the beginning or the most recent update has changed the format. Any help with this would be much appreciated! Thanks.
Welcome to the thread, @ANewport. I'd be glad to assist you in reconnecting your account.
Beforehand, can you verify the name of the bank accounts that you'd want to reconnect? Any additional information will get us closer to the resolution and check if there's an open investigation about this.
Then, for the steps you're referring above, it's for QuickBooks Online (QBO). But if you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you can change your login and other info for the bank account, so the new details will be available when you set up.
Here's what you'll need to do to edit your bank info:
Once bank transactions download, you can now start categorizing or matching them to straighten out your books. After that, you have the option to do your regular bank reconciliation.
Keep me posted on how things go on your end. I'll be around to provide further assistance with your banking concern.
yes
There is no "Transactions" option in the left menu. Only App transactions.
Hello there, bh0857. I'm here to provide some information about the option you have.
The Transactions menu can be seen on the left side. Some QuickBooks companies only used the Banking option, and some used the Transactions option. This is because of the update that affects some QuickBooks accounts. With that, we can either select Transactions or Banking menu on the left side.
After we click the Transactions menu/ Banking menu, we'll see the App Transactions. Still, I'd like to ask for a screenshot to ensure we're on the same page and share the correct details and solution to your concern.

Hi. I tried your steps but it created a new credit card account. The previous account (with the old cc#) disappeared from the feed when I tried the steps, so I clicked the 'link/connect' (no choice to REconnect) it walked me through as if I was adding that account for the first time and brough up all transactions creating a new bank account. All I want to do is re-connect the feed of the preexisting account that the only change it needed was to update the acct number and be reconnect it to the bank. How do I reconnect it now? and How can I get rid of that extra bank account I don't want to keep? Can you please help?
Hello there, @IBTA22.
A possible reason is that the account was disconnected. If this is the case, your existing accounting data won't change. You'll need to disconnect the wrong account and reconnect the correct one. I'll be glad to walk you through the process.
These are the steps on how to disconnect an account:
Once done we can proceed to reconnect the correct account. Here's how:

Thanks for your reply.
The issue resolved itself after 24 hours, the credit card company not yet providing online access until their servers were ready for the download.
Fixed.
Thanks,
I deleted old transactions up to where last reconciled but I didn’t disconnect the old cc account. I established cc with new number but it only downloaded one transaction. But old card number keeps updating still. It looks like it will keep on updating in the old card number so I wonder if it’s easier if I just keep old account and change account name.
Thank you for sharing your concern, @Ayap. I'm here to provide you with additional information on how to update your bank information safely and conveniently.
I understand your preference to change your account name instead of disconnecting it, and I agree that this is the best approach. By renaming your old account and keeping it connected, you'll be able to receive new transactions seamlessly without any disruptions to your downloading process. This way, you can maintain a consistent record of your financial activity without needing to make additional adjustments.
However, it is not advisable to delete categorized transactions once an account has been disconnected. This may result in incomplete records since some banks may not load transactions from the old account number to the new one. In this case, you'll need to manually add the deleted transactions to maintain accurate and comprehensive financial data.
Here's how:
Once everything looks good, you can start reviewing and categorizing the transactions, then reconcile your account to ensure your books are accurate.

Thank you for this response. Have come to this forum multiple times and never found an answer that worked. This is a first - and am so very happy it worked!
It didn't mirror the current menus exactly but was close enough to figure out the solution from there.
FYI to Admins, QuickBooks actually has a message in the chart of accounts screen that says something like, "If you'd like to know how to update your card number, click here." It takes you to a web page that says something like, "Oops. Nothing here." I wish it was surprising that there continues to be almost ZERO QA of the basic program functions. Seriously, when Intuit has help links posted within the program, someone should be checking those links with every update to ensure they are current and not broken.

I have taken note of the information you shared regarding reconnecting your card in QuickBooks Online, @nsnash1.

This will allow us to provide you with a timely solution. Please let me know if you can provide any additional details.

Thank you for the reply. What needs to happen is simply to link the text in the app to the correct link for help. Also the QB interface with Chase is outdated and does not function for setting up new accounts. It requires some manipulation to overcome the routines set up in QB while also ensuring the device one is working from is already logged in to the bank and recognized as an already connected and secure device of the account owner. The error messages read as if the QB app is reaching out to an old Chase site rather than defaulting to whatever is most current. Please reach out to Chase to get the protocols updated.
Capital One. We have two card for them and one is linked, but the other one that we had to get a new card number for I can't get to connect, and Capital One is not even giving me the option for that card. Now it is not even showing in my list of bank transactions, but it is in my chart of accounts.
