Our company does not accept credit cards as payment, how can I prevent this in QBO

Hi there, Jevans!

We respect your decision to do the manual steps of accepting payments.

As long as you didn't set up or linked a QuickBooks Payments account, you won't be able to receive or process credit card payments. However, you may still see some popups about it on rare occasions. Just close them when that happens.

On the other hand, if you like to see some featured contents relevant to our situation today, you can visit the QuickBooks Blog page.

Feel free to reply to this thread if there's anything we can help you today. Stay safe and healthy!

@Jevans

As additional option, you may ask customer to utilize MP as payment service if they want to pay by credit card.  Stretch your clients’ cash flow by creating up to a 45-day float by paying bills via a credit card, even if the vendor doesn’t accept credit cards. Vendors get paid with a physical check or with electronic bank transfers.

Our company does not accept credit cards as payment, how can I prevent this in QBO

Guess I wasn't clear.   I didn't set it up, it was set up when I signed up for ACH to accept payments from my customers.  I have called before and thought it was removed/cancelled but apparently not.

I want to cancel Merchant Account for Credit Cards, but not for ACH.

Please help!

Hey there, Jevans,

I'm glad to clarify things out for you. The ACH and credit card payment methods are part of your Merchant Account subscription. Hence, you're unable to cancel one of them.

You'll want to ensure only Bank transfer is marked before sending the invoice. This will allow customers to pay invoices online via ACH. See the attached screenshot below for your visual guide.

When I create a new invoice, the default is for both Credit Card Payments and ACH Payments to be 'On'.  I need to be able to accept both types, but I want my default invoice to only have ACH Payments on.  I am not able to change this in Settings.  Having to turn off Credit Card Payments on every invoice is not a viable solution.

I know it's convenient if you can only set up ACH payments to your default invoices, Bdanilek.

Although, the option is unavailable. You'll have to uncheck the Cards box each time you send the invoice. You can also check MaryLandT's screenshot at the top.

I'll share the article on how to process an ACH bank transfer for additional information.

Our company does not accept credit cards as payment, how can I prevent this in QBO

Hi,

As a company, we have never offered credit card payments, only ACH.  We had it preset in our payment settings to not show up as an option when invoices are sent out.  We just sent out a large batch of invoices to our customers, and to our surprise saw that somehow customers were paying with credit cards, and we were being charged for that.  I am upset, because when I went to check the setting, there is no longer an option to automatically remove it from each invoice.  It seems that Quickbooks pulled a fast one, and unbeknownst to us, added it as an option without our consent.  We have now sent out over 100 invoices where customers have the options to pay with credit.   Extremely disappointed with Quickbooks and the daily fees that we are now getting as people are paying with Credit Card, an option that we never manually approved.  Now having to undo that with each invoice and explain to each customer who wants to pay with credit why they cannot in the future.  What a mess.

This isn't the impression we wish to leave you with, @sharperimagelawn.

I recommend reaching out to our Payments (Merchant Services) Support for further assistance. Rest assured, they have the tools that can pull up your account and help adjust the Payment Method on Invoices for your Customers so that they only have the option for ACH and not credit card payments.

Let me know how the conversation goes! I'll be here if you have any additional questions or concerns. Have a nice day.

We used to have it set up that way.  We set it up to not accept credit cards by following these steps from your own website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/customer-company-settings/find-your-quickbooks-onl...

When we started receiving credit card payments and saw that it was automatically selected as an option on our invoices, when prior it was automatically deselected, I went to this same settings and it was no longer available.  Talked with payments and they told me it was outdated and that I didn't know what I was talking about. That I have always had to manually deselect it, when we have never had to, EVER.  They still didn't believe me, and pretty much said too bad.  Well it was clearly working at that time as an option and continued to, up until now.  Yes the website was from 2018, but it was available and working that way up until our last set of invoices where the credit card was automatically selected as an option.  Absolutely terrible service, and now we can get charged up to over $2,000 worth of credit card charges.  Thanks a lot Quickbooks, and no thanks to your payment "support" team.

Got reconnected to someone who actually knew what they were talking about and informed me of this:

"There was issues with the online payment options where the changes would not actually apply when turning off the credit card option on the invoice template. The feature was removed until the issue could be resolved. Until that feature becomes available again, you will have to uncheck the credit card option on each invoice or remove the online payment options altogether."

We knew we weren't crazy.  I am thankful to have received someone who was updated, professional, and honest about the situation.
