How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I've got your back, geoffreyamyfox4.

Customizing the appearance of invoices is my specialty, so let lend you a hand in making the Service Date show up on your printed invoices.

A quick and easy way to do this is to edit the label of the service date on the invoice template. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Custom Form Styles.
  3. Find the invoice template you're using, then hit Edit.
  4. Go to the Content tab.
  5. Select the middle section of the invoice preview.
  6. Click Edit Labels and Widths.
  7. Change the name entered in the Date field to Service Date.
  8. Hit Done.

After making the changes, here's how you can apply this to the invoices you need to print:

  1. Click Sales on the left navigation menu.
  2. Go to the Invoices tab.
  3. Select the invoice.
  4. Click Customize.
  5. Choose the invoice template that you edited.

There's also a detailed guide on how to customize templates here that can offer additional information. These instructions are all you'll need to get the Service Date to show on your invoices right away.

Don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of further assistance, I'll have you covered. Thanks for dropping by the Community, cheers to a happy holiday season.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

This is not working for me. I have the invoices set up to show the service date and when I preview the forms it shows up but not when I print. See attached file - the preview of the custom form, and the actual invoice.

In addition, I would like to be able to have invoices that include the list of each transaction - not grouped into one section. How do I do that?

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

Hi BPP_Oakland,

You'll want to save your invoice as PDF and then print again. Let me walk you through how.

  1. Open the invoice.
  2. Click Print or Preview at the bottom. Then, Print or Preview.
  3. Click Print. Then, click Change.
  4. Click Save as PDF. Open your invoice from your computer and then print.

If you're still unable to print the date, you can repair your Adobe Reader/Acrobat. Please refer to this link for the steps: How to update, repair, or re-install Adobe Reader/Acrobat.

On the other hand, you can use the Sales by Customer Detail report to see the list of each invoice transaction. Just go to Reports, then type Sales by Customer Detail.

Please read this article for more information about: Customise your invoices, estimates, and sales receipts.

You might also want to check our page for your reference regarding: Income and expenses.

You can always swing by anytime if you have other questions.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

That does not work. The dates for each service do not show up. There is no way it is a pdf/acrobat issue - if there is no date being developed by QB there can't be one for the invoice or for Acrobat to not print. If you look at the files I sent -The first page is the preview of what is produced from QB. The second is what the invoice is supposed to do you'd see that there is a different issue.

QB is not mapping the dates to the invoice lines.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

Hello there, @BPP_Oakland.

Let's check why does the service date isn't showing up on the printed invoice.

The steps provided by AldrinS above should help you customize the invoice template to show the service date when creating and printing invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Since it isn't working on your end, you can try some troubleshooting steps to help isolate the issue.

b1 creating invoice.PNG

b1 printing invoice.PNG

First, try running QuickBooks using a private browser since it doesn't store data in the cache and create/print your invoice with service date from there. This way, we'll be able to check if the problem is browser-related.

Here are the following keyboard shortcuts to open a private browser:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P

If it works fine using a private browser, you have to clear the cache of the regular browser you're using to get a clean slate for your browser. You can check this article for the detailed steps: How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files?.

If you're getting the same result, you can try running QuickBooks using another supported browser.

You can also enable pop-ups for QBO since it helps the website to work properly. Then, log back into your QBO account and check the print preview of your invoice/s.

If the problem continues, I suggest getting in touch with our Support Team to check this further. For the support's contact information, you can check it here: Contact the QuickBooks Online Customer Support team.

In case you have any other QuickBooks concern in the future, you can always read our help articles: Help articles for QuickBooks Online.

Keep posted if you have any other concerns about invoices in QBO. I'm just always here to help!

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I'm having the same issue. I went through all the steps and no matter how many times I check that the date field is enabled and the service date option is on in the Sales settings, the dates still do not appear anymore in the PDF preview or printouts. I also used to have a printout of the signature field captured through the mobile app that no longer shows up in the PDF when it used to before. I called the support number and spent half an hour with a Quickbooks associate over the phone while sharing screen through glimpse and repeating these same steps and again confirming everything is set, but the Date and signature still do not print anymore. As far as I can tell this product is buggy and broken on Quickbooks end and I am actively looking for a replacement.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I did end up calling customer service about this issue and the ticket was elevated to another department. I was told we would be contacted with a resolution eventually. About a week later we received a call from technical support regarding this issue. Apparently they found a corruption in our database that is causing this issue and we were asked to pay a fee over $2,000 to fix it. How can an online cloud-based product where the database is not anywhere in our control suffer a database corruption, and then it becomes our responsibility to pay to resolve it? What are we paying for in our monthly fees if not access and upkeep of the service? Are we going to have to start paying for your website maintenance as well? We were given a cockamamie excuse about possible frequent disconnects that essentially blames us for the database corruption. We primarily use the mobile version of Quickbooks Online which means we are not even in control of our data connection. This is a complete failure of customer service and of providing a working, reliable product. We are obviously not going to pay $2000 to repair an issue that is not even on our end and thankfully we are not invested enough in Quickbooks that we are stuck with it. We're actively looking for a replacement product and will be permanently leaving this platform soon.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I am having the same issue. "Service Date" is BLANK on ALL Invoices, not just the ones that were created recently but all of the Invoices, even going back to 2014! We must provide "Service Date" to our customers; otherwise, we won't get paid! This is a critical ERROR that MUST be addressed ASAP!

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

Using Chrome, I am having the same problem.  When I do a preview of the template or a test print, the service date is on there but when you go to an actual invoice, the service date is not there.  This has to be a back-end problem.  Will be contacting support.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I had the same issue, tried all of the steps detailed in the answered posted here and was on the phone with Customer service for over an hour. They had me do the same steps and of course could still not get the service date to print on the invoice. When I created a new "company", because our company is branching off into a new area I found that the service date was appearing. When I started comparing the template from each company I found that the "Show more activity options" had the "Group activity by" field set to "Day". When I turned that off. the Service Date was displayed on the invoice. This is definitely something to check into and would also be a good thing to have the customer service reps check with a customer who calls in with this issue. It is sad that this was a problem for so many people for years without having a resolution.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I am reading the thread back to 2019 and they have never solved the problem. What kind of invoice doesn't include the dates for each items? You are charging lots of money every month and doing nothing. Your support team member had me waited 2 hours, although I shared the screen,  still being directed to send a feedback through dashboard. You are just playing around?

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I understand your frustration and the inconvenience you've experienced, WW233. Allow me to help you this time and provide you with answers to the best of my abilities.

I can think of a reason why it happened. It could be that the Collapse activity row box is checked, which is why it's not printing the service date.

Let's review the template and make sure the checkmark is removed. Here's how you could do it:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Customer form style.
  2. In the Content tab, scroll down. Click the Show more activity options.
  3. Untick the Collapse activity row box.
  4. Hit Done to reflect the changes.

Once done, go back to the invoice and make sure you apply the appropriate template. Open invoice> Customize> select  template.

Afterward, you should now  able to print the service date.

Stay in touch if you have follow-up concerns. I always want to make sure you can service date and other information in the system. Bye for now.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

I posted the question back in 2021 and am just now getting a response? I did figure it out on my own since I could not get any support or assistance two years ago. We are currently looking at other accounting systems since QBO is just not as robust as we were told and too expense for the level of support we receive.

How do I get "Service Date" to show on printed invoice?

This issue still has not been resolved by Intuit. Years later, and the service date will still not show on custom uploaded invoices. And before any of you QBO agents try to offer the basic steps of how to setup a custom invoice, I can confirm everything is setup correctly. It simply doesn't work. It's a software failure.

And the thing thats far worse than the glitch? The fact that Intuit has failed to resolve it after multiple years and many complains. You're a multibillion dollar company - get your act together.
