Recently I am no longer able to merge. Everything matches, name, account type, but I get a message that another account is using that name please choose a different name. Instead of being able to merge. Help.
Thanks for reaching out to us, @SimpleProfit. Being able to merge your account is my top priority.
To ensure we are on the same page, may I ask what account you want to merge within the chart of accounts? Please know that there are accounts you can't change, like those connected to online banking.

It's two expense accounts that were created. Not any accounts that were created by QB that are unmergable. Both are listed as "cost of labor" type accounts with different names, and just need to merge them.
Here is a picture. Two expense cost of labor accounts, I tried when one was a sub account and I also tried making the sub account be a main expense account and I get the same error either way.
Hi there, @SimpleProfit
We appreciate you for contacting the Community. I was able to see a merging option after replicating your issue on my end. See the image below:
Since you're unable to see this on your end, I'd recommend checking your browser. You can open a private window. Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:
If you're able to see the merging option by browsing privately, it's safe to say that it's being caused by the browser. It can be fixed by clearing your cache and cookies.
In the event it continues occurring while using incognito, you'll initially have to try switching to another browsing application.
Here's a list of supported browsers:

That's how it usually looks. But now I get this error at the top and no merge option anywhere. I tried it in a separate browser, private browser, same error. I was actually able to merge earlier in the day and then I get this new error and no merge option at all.
Hey there again, @SimpleProfit.
Thanks for showing back up on this thread. Let me point you in the right direction to get this take care of as soon as possible.

I had the same issue and couldn't merge. The reason was that one of the two accounts I wanted to merge had a sub account. You must first remove any sub accounts from either account that you want to merge. You can change it back to a sub account after the merge.
The answer ended up being that I had to switch to business view from accountant view. It will not work as it's supposed to in accountant view, which is what I usually use. But switching to business view, merging the accounts and then switching back to accountant view, did work. I've used this a few times now and it must be quickbooks glitch that this feature isn't working for some people in accountant view.
