I would like to upgrade from the 2007 version, but I don't know how to transfer my files.
Hi there, @Russ88.
Thanks for continuing using QuickBooks for your business. I'm here to provide information on how to upgrade QuickBooks from 2007 and convert your company file to a new QuickBooks Desktop version.
There's an Easy Upgrade feature that will automatically create an updated copy of your most recent files if you have an active QuickBooks subscription. You only need to perform the following steps if you have to update additional company files.
To upgrade or convert your company file to a newer version:
For reminders before upgrading or converting the file, look into this article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started/Upgrade-or-convert-your-company-file-to-a-ne....
On the other hand, you can use the Migrator Tool section on Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer to move both your product and company file to another computer. The following article contains other solutions for this situation: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started/Move-your-company-files-to-another-computer/....
For future references, use the article below to upgrade QuickBooks:
With this information, you should be able to install QuickBooks and transfer company files. Let me know how this goes after following the steps above. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'll be glad to answer.
2007, not 2017.
I have qbooks 2007 on my computer. I am trying to help a friend set up the business her parents were running. They were not fully utilizing qbook 2013, so we are creating the company. I was wondering can I create the new company on MY Qbooks 2007 and then import/covert it to her 2013 version? they are a small operation and only have one license, so if I could work on my older version here and then export it into their newer version, that would make things much easier.
Yes, you can do that, TONYAC.
We can create a new company file from your QuickBooks Desktop 2007. Then, let's create a back up file that we can restore in QuickBooks Desktop 2013.
Just a heads up, these versions of QuickBooks Desktop are no longer supported. This may cause some errors and can damage the company data. You'll want to upgrade to the latest version so we can set it up without any issue.
I've included this article for more details about upgrading company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

Can I backup from quickbooks 2007 and restore to quickbooks 2020 ?
can I backup from Quickbooks 2007 and restore to Quickbooks 2020 ?
Yes, you can, kengeroo.
There are a few things we'll have to do before we can migrate since 2007 to 2020 is a long jump. When upgrading to a higher version we'll need to have a gradually upgrade QuickBooks like from 2007 to 2010 > 2013 > 2017 then 2020 via Portable File Format (backup copy).
You can get in touch with our Customer Support Team and they'll upgrade it for you. Here's how:
You can click here for more details on What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2020.
Please let me know if there's anything else that you need help.
I have the same problem from QB 2007 to QB 2014. I ran 2007 for 12 years without problems (so why "fix it"); and then one day I wasn't able to access my company files. To continue my business I opened a new company file on QB we bought in 2014 and that runs fine. I need to open the 2007 QB though as it has all of my contact information. So, I don't really need to "migrate" the files as a continuing business, but really need to be able to access the 2007 QB files - to "open" QB 2007. I'm running Windows 7 and use Avast Premium Security. Is there a way to "open" the 2007 files?
I can help you access your company file, @Forge Shield.
Can you tell us more about the error message that you've encountered when trying to open the company file? That'll help us resolve the error you're having.
You can try using the QuickBooks File Doctor. This will fix company file issues in QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how to do it:
Check this article for more information: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
Here's an article for the complete steps: Error -6000, -82 or -6000, -106 when opening or accessing the company file.
Please take note that QuickBooks Desktop 2007 is no longer supported. The troubleshooting steps may or may not work.
You can always get back to me if you have more questions, or if the error persists. I'll keep an eye out for your reply. Keep safe and have a wonderful day!
Hello there, @Forge Shield.
I appreciate that you performed some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.
Let me share some information regarding the error message you receive. Error 6123. 0 usually happens if you open your company file from the file folder that is saved on your computer or your company file name has special characters or spaces.
This type of error can be fixed by installing QuickBooks Tool Hub. But since you’ve also used and installed the application and you still got the same result, another reason is that QuickBooks 2007 is already an outdated version and is no longer supported by QuickBooks.
To restore your company file, I suggest upgrading to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop.
To do that, please contact our support team. They have the proper tools where you can do screen sharing in a safe environment and help you upgrade to the latest version of QuickBooks and also transfer your company file from QuickBooks 2007 by using the bridging method.
Here’s how:
Also, please review our support hours to ensure your issue gets addressed right away. We've made some changes to our support options for QuickBooks Desktop. Our representatives are available through chat or messaging to accommodate all our customer's concerns effectively.
Keep me posted if you need anything else or if you have additional questions. I'll be on the lookout for your reply if you need further help.

Upgrade my data.
Check your PM.
I have an old 2007 pro version that absolutely will not install. I DO have all the backup files. How do I get them into my new quickbooks online account? Paul
I can share some tips on how you can bring them over, Paul.
As mentioned, above your old backup files needs to be gradually updated to QBD 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021 before migrating to QuickBooks Online. Take note that the trial codes are only available to the most current versions so our customers can use the program without buying licenses.

As mentioned by KlentB, you may need to install the trial license for QBD 2011, 2015 and 2019 respectively to upgrade your file and migrate to QB Online. Contact us in private and we may share those trial codes or we can help to upgrade your file directly to QBD 2019, 2020, or 2021. Then you will only need to install one trial license of those version to restore the upgraded file and migrate to QB Online.
I SURE would like some help in getting my 2007 upgraded. I cannot locate any older version than 2013 and it will not open a QBW file. I do have an online account now, basic. They were unable to help me via the chat session. 1-800-4-quicken was no help either. I did get my '07 to install on another computer, but there are no good options to export or 'save as' that '13 can open. Thank you...
Thanks for getting back with the Community about this, Granzaman.
To import your company data into QuickBooks Online, you'll need to download and install a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop.
You can obtain a copy of QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 by visiting our QuickBooks Downloads webpage. If you have any troubles with the Pro version, a trial copy of Enterprise can be obtained in its free trial article. Once you've installed it, restore the backup copy of your company file.
Now you'll be prepared to import the data into QuickBooks Online.
Here's how:
I've also included a detailed resource about transferring data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online which may come in handy moving forward: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online
If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome day!
Hi. Nope.
1) Quickbooks desktop 2021 pro trial installed successfully. Tried to load my QBW file, got the attached image error. Error seems to suggest virus protection. I only have Windows Defender, which is part of ver 10. Could not locate any quarantined files. I also use IOBIT Advanced system care, but not their anti virus.
2) Tried Quickbooks conversion software tool. Successfully installed. (It will only allow *.qdb or qdf files. My version is QBW, from 2007 pro.
