Migrating from Quickbooks 2007

Hi there, @Russ88.

Thanks for continuing using QuickBooks for your business. I'm here to provide information on how to upgrade QuickBooks from 2007 and convert your company file to a new QuickBooks Desktop version.

There's an Easy Upgrade feature that will automatically create an updated copy of your most recent files if you have an active QuickBooks subscription. You only need to perform the following steps if you have to update additional company files.

To upgrade or convert your company file to a newer version:

  1. Go the File menu.
  2. Select Open or Restore Company.
  3. Select Open a company file and click Next.
  4. Highlight your data file and select Open. If the Move Company File window appears, follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Read the info in the Update Company File for New Version pane.
  6. Check the box to signify you understand and click Update Now.
  7. Follow the instructions on how to back up your file. Note where you save your file.
  8. When the message You are about to open a company file using a newer version of QuickBooks...Do you want to continue? appears, click Yes.
  9. Save the backup you created in a safe location until you are certain you won't need it again.

For reminders before upgrading or converting the file, look into this article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started/Upgrade-or-convert-your-company-file-to-a-ne....

On the other hand, you can use the Migrator Tool section on Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer to move both your product and company file to another computer. The following article contains other solutions for this situation: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started/Move-your-company-files-to-another-computer/....

For future references, use the article below to upgrade QuickBooks:

With this information, you should be able to install QuickBooks and transfer company files. Let me know how this goes after following the steps above. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'll be glad to answer.

I have qbooks 2007 on my computer.  I am trying to help a friend set up the business her parents were running.  They were not fully utilizing qbook 2013, so we are creating the company.  I was wondering can I create the new company on MY Qbooks 2007 and then import/covert it to her 2013 version?  they are a small operation and only have one license, so if I could work on my older version here and then export it into their newer version, that would make things much easier.

Migrating from Quickbooks 2007

Yes, you can do that, TONYAC.

We can create a new company file from your QuickBooks Desktop 2007. Then, let's create a back up file that we can restore in QuickBooks Desktop 2013.

Just a heads up, these versions of QuickBooks Desktop are no longer supported. This may cause some errors and can damage the company data. You'll want to upgrade to the latest version so we can set it up without any issue.

I've included this article for more details about upgrading company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

Yes, you can, kengeroo.

There are a few things we'll have to do before we can migrate since 2007 to 2020 is a long jump. When upgrading to a higher version we'll need to have a gradually upgrade QuickBooks like from 2007 to 2010 > 2013 > 2017 then 2020 via Portable File Format (backup copy)

You can get in touch with our Customer Support Team and they'll upgrade it for you. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and click QuickBooks Desktop Help
  2. Select Contact us
  3. Enter your concern about migrating your 2007 company file to 2020.
  4. Click Continue and choose to either call or chat with us.

You can click here for more details on What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2020

Please let me know if there's anything else that you need help.

I have the same problem from QB 2007 to QB 2014.  I ran 2007 for 12 years without problems (so why "fix it"); and then one day I wasn't able to access my company files.  To continue my business I opened a new company file on QB we bought in 2014 and that runs fine.  I need to open the 2007 QB though as it has all of my contact information.  So, I don't really need to "migrate" the files as a continuing business, but really need to be able to access the 2007 QB files - to "open" QB 2007.  I'm running Windows 7 and use Avast Premium Security.  Is there a way to "open" the 2007 files?

I can help you access your company file, @Forge Shield.

Can you tell us more about the error message that you've encountered when trying to open the company file? That'll help us resolve the error you're having.

You can try using the QuickBooks File Doctor. This will fix company file issues in QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how to do it:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Once done, open the file that you've downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. After installing, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Check this article for more information: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor

Here's an article for the complete steps: Error -6000, -82 or -6000, -106 when opening or accessing the company file.

Please take note that QuickBooks Desktop 2007 is no longer supported. The troubleshooting steps may or may not work.

You can always get back to me if you have more questions, or if the error persists. I'll keep an eye out for your reply. Keep safe and have a wonderful day!

Migrating from Quickbooks 2007

Hi, MaryJoy -

A little back-story:

We purchased the QB2007 in 2008 and have used it on a Windows XP machine without any problems until Spring of this year.  Then, for some reason, it stopped allowing me to access the company file and I got an error message:  6123,0.  I tried and tried to fix it from on-line help; but to no avail.  I thought it might be the old computer or operating system, so I took it to a Computer shop.  They were not able to access the company files or open the exe file, but they did tell me that they thought the saved company file was intact and not corrupted.

So, I looked for the original install disk of the QB2007 and installed that program on a newer computer with a Windows 7 operating system.  It installed fine.  I then moved the company file to the new computer.  I then tried to open QB 2007 and I received the same 6123,0 error.  I tried to open the saved file - same error.  I tried to open a new company - same error.

In the meantime, we had bought a newer version of Quick Books back in 2015 but hadn't used it - because the old version was working fine; QB2014 - and then recently opened a new company file which is working just fine.  I intend to upgrade to QB 2020 having learned my lesson about keeping very old software about - and a computer with Windows 10 - when finances allow.

For now, though, I would like to be able to access my QB2007 files.  I need to be able to finish my business taxes / bank reconciliation/ and all the stored customer information.

I did down-load the Quick Books Tool Hub and did use it - but I was still not able to open the QB 2007 files.

So, there you have it.  I have also tried various methods of disabling the Avast Firewalls and allowing QB through, thinking that might be the problem - but that wouldn't explain the same problem that I had with the old XP machine which does not have an Avast firewall.

I hope you can help me.

Thank you

Migrating from Quickbooks 2007

Hello there, @Forge Shield.

I appreciate that you performed some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.

Let me share some information regarding the error message you receive. Error 6123. 0 usually happens if you open your company file from the file folder that is saved on your computer or your company file name has special characters or spaces.

This type of error can be fixed by installing QuickBooks Tool Hub. But since you’ve also used and installed the application and you still got the same result, another reason is that QuickBooks 2007 is already an outdated version and is no longer supported by QuickBooks.

To restore your company file, I suggest upgrading to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop.

To do that, please contact our support team. They have the proper tools where you can do screen sharing in a safe environment and help you upgrade to the latest version of QuickBooks and also transfer your company file from QuickBooks 2007 by using the bridging method.

Here’s how:

  1. Login to your QuickBooks Desktop and click the Help tab on the upper right.
  2. In the Have a Question window, click the Contact Us link.
  3. Then, select any topics.
  4. Under Here's how to connect with a QuickBooks expert section, click the Get Phone Number button.

Also, please review our support hours to ensure your issue gets addressed right away. We've made some changes to our support options for QuickBooks Desktop. Our representatives are available through chat or messaging to accommodate all our customer's concerns effectively.

Keep me posted if you need anything else or if you have additional questions. I'll be on the lookout for your reply if you need further help.

How do I migrate from QuickBooks 2007 Pro to QuickBooks online?

Migrating from Quickbooks 2007

I appreciate you joining in this thread, easywindowsandsiding.

To get this done, you'll need to update your old data so you can start migrating the file to QuickBooks Online. As an initial step, ensure you have saved a back up copy of your company file.

After that, you can follow the steps below to update the file:

  1. Download a trial version of QuickBooks Pro 2020.
  2. Make sure all users log out of your company file.
  3. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Click File at the top menu bar and select Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  5. Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  6. Browse your computer for your company file. Select it and then select Open.
Note: If you can't find your company file, open the Windows Start menu and then File Explorer. Search for your company file by name or the .qbw file extension.

If you still can't find it, make sure it's not hidden.

  7. Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
  8. Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  9. Select Update Now to start the upgrade.
  10. When QuickBooks finishes, hit Done.

Once done, you can refer to this article for the detailed steps in migrating your data from desktop to QuickBooks Online: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. On the same link, you'll find resources about how to manage your file in the online version.

Reach out to me if you have any other questions. I'm always here to assist you further. Have a great rest of your day!

You may need to upgrade your file to QBD 2011, 2015, and 2019 prior to migrating your data to QBO. Contact us in private and we may share those trial codes.

I have an old 2007 pro version that absolutely will not install. I DO have all the backup files. How do I get them into my new quickbooks online account? Paul

Migrating from Quickbooks 2007

I can share some tips on how you can bring them over, Paul.

As mentioned, above your old backup files needs to be gradually updated to QBD 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021 before migrating to QuickBooks Online. Take note that the trial codes are only available to the most current versions so our customers can use the program without buying licenses.

To ensure that you'll be able to import those files, I'd recommend contacting our customer representatives. Our  Data Services Team will be the one to prepare and update your file, then guide you in moving them. You can connect with us within your QBO account. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a human.
  3. Enter "Talk to a human" again in the search bar.
  4. Choose I still need a human, then click Contact us.
  5. Select Get a callback or Send a message to start a conversation.

Once everything is sorted out, feel free to check our Getting Started Guide to help set up your new QuickBooks company and learn the product basics.

I'm still here if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions. assistance is just a post away.

@Granzaman

As mentioned by KlentB, you may need to install the trial license for QBD 2011, 2015 and 2019 respectively to upgrade your file and migrate to QB Online. Contact us in private and we may share those trial codes or we can help to upgrade your file directly to QBD 2019, 2020, or 2021. Then you will only need to install one trial license of those version to restore the upgraded file and migrate to QB Online.

I SURE would like some help in getting my 2007 upgraded. I cannot locate any older version than 2013 and it will not open a QBW file. I do have an online account now, basic. They were unable to help me via the chat session. 1-800-4-quicken was no help either. I did get my '07 to install on another computer, but there are no good options to export or 'save as' that '13 can open. Thank you...

Thanks for getting back with the Community about this, Granzaman.

To import your company data into QuickBooks Online, you'll need to download and install a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop.

You can obtain a copy of QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 by visiting our QuickBooks Downloads webpage. If you have any troubles with the Pro version, a trial copy of Enterprise can be obtained in its free trial article. Once you've installed it, restore the backup copy of your company file.

Now you'll be prepared to import the data into QuickBooks Online.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your company file as an Admin user.
  2. In the top menu bar, go to Company, then Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Click Start your export.
  4. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as its primary Admin.
  5. Choose Yes if you track inventory and specify an appropriate as of date and No if you'd like to set up new items later.
  6. Use your Choose online company ▼ drop-down list and pick the company you want to import data into, then press Continue.
  7. Enter "Agree" in your text field and click Replace.
  8. Tick Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.

I've also included a detailed resource about transferring data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online which may come in handy moving forward: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome day!

Hi. Nope.

1) Quickbooks desktop 2021 pro trial installed successfully. Tried to load my QBW file, got the attached image error. Error seems to suggest virus protection. I only have Windows Defender, which is part of ver 10. Could not locate any quarantined files. I also use IOBIT Advanced system care, but not their anti virus.

2) Tried Quickbooks conversion software tool. Successfully installed. (It will only allow *.qdb or qdf files. My version is QBW, from 2007 pro.
