2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

Hi there, @MicheleAlbanese, @BoJangles2020, and @Daily1. Let me address your concerns one a time.

@MicheleAlbanese, you can go to the Help menu and update your QuickBooks Desktop with the critical fixes applied. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the Options tab and click Mark All.
  3. Click the Update Now tab. Make sure the Critical Fixes is checked.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

@BoJangles2020, you'll want to update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release from time to time. Then, verify the release of your QuickBooks by clicking F2 on your keyboard. Once the release is included on the list below, you should be able to print the 3 part 1099-NEC.

  • QuickBooks 2021/Enterprise 21 - R8_62 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2020/Enterprise 20 - RR13_39 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2019/Enterprise 19 - R16_55 (or later)

@Daily1, printing the 1099-NEC forms is available in all versions of QuickBooks Desktop. Once you're ready to print it, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Create your 1099s in QuickBooks.
  2. In the Choose a filing method window, select the Print 1099-NEC button.
  3. Select the date range for the forms, then choose OK.
  4. Choose all vendors you wish to print 1099s for.
  5. Select the Print 1099 button.
  6. Confirm your printer settings, then select Print.

You might want to learn more about 1099 forms. This article will provide you the detailed information: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

@Mark_R , I've done all these with the assistance of QB support, and they made sure I had everything up to date, which it already was. I am running QB 2022 Pro, and even with the updates has not fixed anything.

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

@Mark_R Mark R,

I believe the biggest disconnect here with QuickBooks and your customers is the fact you keep linking information that is for the 2-page 1099 Forms. Your latest reply brings you to a page that specifically says: "Intuit offers 1099 Forms (two per sheet) with size 8 1/2" x 11" that includes compatible double-window envelopes with size 5 5/8'' x 8 3/4"." The problem with this link you provided is that you still think we are discussing (two per sheet) 1099 Froms.

However, the issue is that everyone on this forum is asking for help on the newly sold 1099s by QUICKBOOKS that is (three per sheet) no longer (two per sheet). Why is there such a huge disconnect here that you are not aware that QuickBooks is now selling (three per sheet) 1099 Forms?

Please help us with (three per sheet) 1099 Froms.

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

I have desktop 2021 QB accountants desktop version R8P.  I did the download for the 1099-nec...everything updated...i shut down my computer and went back in QB...it installed the update.  HOWEVER, I CANNOT PRINT OR PREVIEW THE 1099-NEC.  I can print the 1096.

WHAT IS THE FIX????  UNBELIEVEABLE THAT WE HAVE TO WASTE SO MUCH TIME ON SOMETHING THAT QUICKBOOKS SHOULD HAVE HAD READY FOR US.....WHY DO WE HAVE TO TELL YOU WHAT DOES NOT WORK IN YOUR PROGRAM?  DOES ANYONE EVER CHECK TO SEE IF THE "UPDATES" ACTUALLY WORK COMPLETELY???

WHAT DO WE DO?  SOMEONE AT QUICKBOOKS WITH A BRAIN SHOULD HAVE A FIX FOR THIS.

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

Hi there, TylerBanyan.

We can now print the 1099-NEC 3 per page in QuickBooks Desktop. We just need to get the latest release of QuickBooks installed. Let's take a look to see what release you do have by pressing the F2 button at the top of your keyboard. Below are the releases required to print 1099 NEC forms in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows:

  • QuickBooks 2022/Enterprise 22 - R3_71 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2021/Enterprise 21 - R8_62 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2020/Enterprise 20 - RR13_39 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2019/Enterprise 19 - R16_55 (or later)

We can also visit this IRS page here for more details about the revision and complete instructions of the form 1099- NEC. I’m sure you’ll find it helpful. Here’s a future reference that will guide you in preparing and filing your 1099 form with QuickBooks Desktop.

We can check out some of these guides below for some additional insight about 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms.

Drop a comment below if you have follow-up questions or concerns about payroll forms. I'll be here to assist you. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead.

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

@RCV RCV,

I am noticing from your reply that the only version of QuickBooks that can print 3 per page 1099-NECs is Enterprise? Can you please confirm if this is correct?

If this is true, why is this not mentioned anywhere on QuickBooks website when you're buying software for QuickBooks. Why was it just last year QuickBooks sold 2 per page 1099-NECs and now this year they sell only 3 per page 1099-NECs without any update or indication that if you DO NOT have the Enterprise version of QuickBooks you will be unable to use the forms?

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

I tried all the fixes that were posted and nothing helped.  Luckily I have QB Pro Plus Desktop 2021 running on another computer.  I printed the three parts out in pdf and used adobe to change the data and then printed them out on the proper forms.  Lucky that I had that option or I would have had to buy the 1099 prep software in order to print them.  Hope QB gets this fixed by next year so we don't go thru this again.  I only had a few to print.  I just feel sorry for those customers who have a lot of 1099's to print because it is a real pain to not be able to print them.   This is a big deal to many customers who really need to print them from the software.

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

Hello, TylerBanyan.

Printing 3 page for 1099-NEC is available for all versions of QuickBooks Desktop. You need to ensure that you have the most up-to-date QuickBooks Desktop release and payroll tax table that's required to print the 1099-NEC in QuickBooks.

Would you like to check your QuickBooks Desktop release version? Please press F2 while QuickBooks Desktop is running.

Once done, follow these steps to download the Critical Fixes and ensure the Reset Update box is checked to get the updates.

  1. Completely close out and shutdown QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Open the task manager on your computer and select End all tasks for QuickBooks-related processes.
  3. Rerun QuickBooks and go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Go to the Options tab and click Mark All, then Save.
  5. Click the Update Now tab, and then make sure to check the Critical Fixes and Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.

        6. Select Get Updates to start the download.

        7. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.

After this process, make sure to install the latest update by clicking Yes. In addition, make sure to remap the accounts and omit all mapping under the MISC tab. Doing this will cause you to remap NEC and MISC accounts again and be able to print the 3 to a page 1099-NEC form.

That did not do it.  I'm using QB Desktop Pro Plus 2022.  I followed the instructions exactly.  TWICE including rebooting my computer TWICE.  I says it installed and it still shows a two part form for the 1099-NEC.  What else are we supposed to do?

I'm an IT Director and ran into this issue tonight with one of my clients. I was able to get it to work, but like many of you I was very frustrated, I followed the directions exactly. I almost gave up on the issue and was going to wait for more information, but I went back to the "Get Quickbooks Updates" checked the "Update Now" tab and noticed it said Quick Fix updates needed to exit Quickbooks and restart to install updates. I did this a few times, going back to "Get Quickbooks Updates" and "Update Now" tab, clicking on the blue "Update Now" button until it finally stated "Nothing New to Download".

I hope this information helps others, I feel like the answers where incomplete.

This did not work.  I've tried this several times.  I am on the current version with all updates and it still wants to print a two per page form. Sorry.  This is NOT SOLVED.  When will it be.

Are you able to print 3 part 1099 NEC Forms in Enterprise 2018?

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

Hello everyone,

To those who were following my questions, the latest reply to me actually has my 1099s printing for 3 per page forms. The following below is what I did and trying to keep it simple:

1. I completely shut down my computer and then turned it back on.

2. I opened up QuickBooks Desktop and went to the Help Menu then selected the Update QuickBooks Desktop...

3. I did go to the options tab and clicked mark all a few times to ensure it registered then clicked save.

4. I went to the update now tab on the same window and made sure the small box next to "Reset Updates" was checked. Once this box was checked I hit the "Get Updates" button.

5. After this was fully completed, I closed out of QuickBooks by hitting the X in top right corner. Gave it a minute or two and then reopened QuickBooks Desktop. Once this happened, I got a small box in middle of my screen showing that QuickBooks was updating.

6. Now this was an annoying part, but when you get back onto your QuickBooks you DO have to go to your Vendors Tab then to 1099 Forms and then click on Print 1099 Forms. Hit yes.

7. VERY IMPORTANT. Go to the "Get Started" button under the FORM 1099-MISC. REGARDLESS of if you're doing 1099-NECs. Uncheck all the vendors that are checked there that you WANT to do 1099-NECs for. Hit continue and then when you are in the window for "Verify your 1099 info" click save and close.

8. Go to your Vendors Tab then to 1099 Forms and then click on Print 1099 Forms AGAIN. Hit yes.

9. This time click the "Get Started" button under Form 1099-NEC. Make sure all the vendors you want to send 1099-NECs to are checked.

10. Make sure map it correctly on the page that gives you the dropdown for "Apply payments to this 1099 box".

11. Do everything like you normally would. When you get to print 1099, I highly recommend that you hit the Align button on the bottom right and put a "5" in the vertical. Click Ok and then print.

These steps should help you. Good luck!

Is this something that will work with QB Contractor Pro Edition 2016?  I don't use payroll so I haven't found it necessary to bite the bullet and update for 3 users.

2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

I have updated every day for the last 3 days and my forms still only print 2 to a page instead of 3 to a page.  It keeps saying there are no new Critical Updates.  I called support, twice, and they suggested I download and run QuickBooks Tool Hub, following the directions exactly, but they still won't print correctly.  I have tried leaving my name and number for Support to call me back, but have not received a call back.  Is there anything else I can try?
