I received a response fromIamjuViel with detailed instructions, one being to go to QB Prefs, click email icon and choose "Custom". I found no such choice as "custom". Now what?
Hey there, @JFazz.
Thanks for following the steps provided by my colleague, and letting us know that they aren't working for you.
Let's try updating your QuickBooks for Mac to the Latest Version. Then, once the update has been completed, you can try going into the preferences again to see if the Custom option is showing.
If you're continuing to not see the Custom option available in the preferences, then I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. Our tech support has the tools available to review your account in a secure environment and investigate why the option isn't showing for you further. I've included the link to chat with support below.
If you have any other questions, feel free to post them below at any time. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.
Quickbooks Support - I am INFURIATED to discover our "Attach PDF to Invoice" setting was suddenly removed without our knowledge or consent. I just sent 50 invoices to clients this morning without PDF attachments and now have lots of annoyed clients asking for their copy. I looked all over in the settings for the place where this is and could not find it. Then I found this post from last year and the instructions of where to look and sure enough, the box was suddenly UNCHECKED and it has never been changed by anyone in our company, and only 2 of us and our accountant have access. Then I looked back through the Audit Log and I am also upset to find you do not log what actually changed to settings in the Log, only that there was a change but no details. And that 15 minutes ago, just by clicking around to try to find the place where you set the PDF setting, and not making any changes to anything, you logged those as "changes to settings". WHAT? This is unbelievably bad practice on your part and terrible service for your customers.
@JoesemM This has just happened to us spontaneously! Our setting for PDFs on the Invoice ws suddenly unchecked without our knowledge or consent. Nearly a year after this thread was posted... why is it still happening randomly? There is absolutely no excuse for this issue to not have been solved by your engineers at this point.
Just happened to us too around 10/1/2021. Apparently, Intuit can't get around to fixing recurring issues that impact us negatively. Or they just have incompetent developers, incompetent management, or most likely, both.
I don't see PDF Attached to click on my online qb.
What is going on?
thank you
Hailey
Hi there, Hailey4411.
Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I've got some instructions to share to ensure you'll be able to see the attached PDF option in QuickBooks Online.
The PDF Attached feature is located under the Online delivery section that can be found on the Account and settings page. You'll have to click the pencil icon so you'll be able to see the box and have the option to click for PDF Attached. I attached screenshots below for visual references.
If you're still unable to see that option after following the details above, may I ask for a specific screenshot on your QuickBooks end? This way, I'll be able to provide you with additional details.
In the meantime, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.
Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:
If it works in incognito, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.
If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.
Lastly, you may refer to this article to view details on how QBO lets you add attachments to customer and vendor profiles, as well as their transactions: Attachments in QuickBooks Online.
I'll be right here to assist you if you have any other questions or concerns about PDF Attached. Just leave a reply below. Take care!
Under account settings, the PDF attached box is checked, but the vendor is not receiving the attachments

It's amazing that this is still an issue after THREE YEARS!
QBO randomly and occasionally will pop up a message on start up that the option to include PDFs with emailed invoices has been turned off. It's not horribly complicated to turn it back on but Intuit keeps turning it off again!!!
How is this a thing? I've tried using customer support both by chat and by phone and the (epithet kept to myself) "less-than-stellar" reps claim there is nothing they can do and I'm supposed to "leave feedback".
Here's my feedback: QUIT CHANGING MY OPTIONS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! QUIT CHANGING OPTIONS THAT I HAVE ALREADY SET! Are we clear? I said, ARE WE CLEAR?
This answer works but only for the current session you are logged on for. When I go into it the next day, this process has to be repeated again.
I appreciate you for letting us know, ccm5. Let me help you rectify your concern when PDF attachments aren't added automatically to your invoices.
I can see how inconvenient it is for you while working with QuickBooks. We can consider performing some troubleshooting steps to help us identify what's causing this unusual behavior. To begin, you'll need to access your account in a private browser. Doing this allows the program to run without storing cache files that can cause problems when running intuit sites. You may use these keyboard shortcuts:
If your QuickBooks runs smoothly from there, you may return to your default browser and clear its cache or use a different supported browser.
Moreover, I'm sharing this article to guide you to enter invoices when customer plans to pay you in the future: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
Let us know in the comments below if you have additional questions or other QuickBooks concerns. We'll gladly assist you further. Keep safe.
This is still an issue for me. Randomly every month or so, Quickbooks online decides to no longer attach PDF's. WTF?????
It hasn't been easy for you and your business.
If you have already performed the browser troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague above and still something like this happens, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. It allows them to look into your account and confirm the problem.

Just so you know, it is apparently STILL an ongoing issue. This just happened yesterday to us in APRIL 2024!!!
4 years and counting. Just happened to us April 2024
Thanks for joining the thread, @J_Jan.
I know the importance of having the option to attach a PDF when sending invoices. Therefore, let me share some steps to rectify the issue.
To start, ensure that the PDF Attached feature is activated in your Account and Settings. This way, your PDF attachments will be included when emailing your invoice. Let me show you how:
If the issue persists, I suggest opening your QuickBooks account in a private window. This will help us check for the possibility of a webpage issue and fix it. Use these keyboard shortcuts keys to access this mode:
If it works, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online. Moreover, you can use another supported browser as an alternative.

I'm always here to assist you if you have any further questions or concerns about the PDF attachments on invoices. Just leave a reply to the thread. Have a good one.
Thank you anyway, but I already changed my settings.
We will monitor this to see if glitches again. We have been sending the invoices with attached .pdf files since we migrated our data to QBO from QBD a couple of months ago. Honestly, the setting is several steps deep, so no one could accidently change it and only 2 people have access here. It's obviously this known issue rearing its ugly head 4 years hence.
In September 2021, I commented on this thread that our "Attach PDF" setting was spontaneously unchecked and PDFs stopped going out on invoices. Two days ago I started getting email notifications that this thread became active again and had new posts. Today I sent an invoice and happened to notice no PDF was attached. I just checked our settings and again it was unchecked.
I just checked all our recent sent invoices. This problem started on April 8th and all invoices we have sent since the 8th have had no PDF attached! All invoice prior to that had a PDF. WE DID NOT CHANGE THE SETTING, QUICKBOOKS, YOU DID. You obviously have a problem internally that this issue keeps happening to accounts and has been going on for 4 years. FIX IT.
I understand that going back and forth can be inconvenient, @STL124. Allow me to share some insights to get past this issue.
Normally, when the PDF Attached feature is activated in your Account and Settings in your QuickBooks Online, it allows you to attach PDFs to your invoices. Let's check your settings to verify.
I'll show you how:
Once done, let's check your previous invoice and see if any PDF attachments are present. If not, I suggest contacting our support team to this investigated.
Here's how:
I've found an article that provides you with the necessary tools to create customized and professional invoices, cost estimates, and sales receipts: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
The comment section is always available if you have any additional questions about attachments. I'll be here to help you further. Have a great day.
