I spent days trying to bulk edit existing products in QuickBooks Online, then the Customer Support confirmed that it is not an existing feature. All I can do is update the thousands of items' sales and purchase prices one by one. The import csv/xls function doesn't work, as it keeps giving me the error message that these items already exist.
It's such an essential feature. These data keep changing all the time. How can users deal with this issue? Profit and Loss reports will give a false result if these data can not be updated.
Am I missing something?
Hello there, @TimiAdler.
Currently, batch editing your existing products and services in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unavailable. However, you can update their costs and prices by uploading a CSV file into the program. Make sure to tick the Overwrite all values for each product or service that you import with the identical name checkbox so you won't be prompted with an error message.
Here's a detailed step-by-step guide:
I'll share this reference for your guide: Import products and services into QuickBooks Online.
I understand the need for the bulk editing feature in QBO to streamline the process of updating your products and services. Please know that we listen to customer feedback to help enhance your QBO experience. That said, let me help you relay your valuable insight to our software engineers by clicking the Gear icon and selecting Feedback. This way, they can review your suggestion and may consider incorporating it in our future product updates.
Additionally, you can set price rules in QBO to control the prices of your items. By doing so, you can offer discounts or charge different rates based on which employee did the work.
Keep in touch if you have additional concerns about importing your products and services. The Community team is here to offer you a helping hand. Stay safe.
Hi JaeAnnC,
Oh my goodness, you saved the day!
I spent hours with several customer representatives on the phone, and no one knew there was an "Overwrite all values" option on the import page. It was not visible without scrolling to the bottom of 150 line items. I was advised to do it manually one by one...
You were super helpful! Huge thanks!

I'll be around if you need further assistance with any QBO-related tasks. I hope you have a pleasant day ahead. Keep safe always!
This only works if the product name is the same though. The only thing you can change is the price and then upload the csv again. I learned the very hard way.
It would be great if you could bulk edit the products and services. I tried the feedback button a couple of times in the past as well, however nothing happens when I click on the button. I must be honest there where much nicer features on the desktop system. It would be nice when you are in an expense or bill and you could click on the item and edit it from there as well
Editing products and services in bulk, as well as modifying transaction items, can greatly enhance efficiency, Dura. Let's collaborate to perform some troubleshooting to ensure we can send your feature request successfully.
I truly appreciate your efforts to provide feedback. Since the button is currently unresponsive, please try accessing your QuickBooks account via an incognito or a private window. This mode doesn't retain cache, so it's a good place to verify a webpage issue. Here are the keyboard shortcuts you can use:
If it works, I recommend clearing your browser's cache to start fresh. Additionally, consider utilizing other supported browsers as an alternative to your regular one.
Moreover, QuickBooks Online and the Desktop version are different products, which is why there are variations in their features. Meanwhile, I encourage you to resend your suggestions to our Product Development Team. Your ideas are valuable to us and help improve our processes. I'll show you how:

Is there a way to also choose "Also update this account in historical transactions" when overwriting details of existing items with the same name and category?
Thank you for participating in this thread, @CJ Consulting1. Managing a business requires significant responsibilities, and keeping organized records can greatly simplify the task. Don't worry, everything will work out fine. We're in this together and will overcome this challenge as we have with others.
The "Also update this account in historical transactions" option for overwriting details of existing items with the same name and category specifically applies to service and non-inventory items. This checkbox does not appear for inventory items because historical transactions for inventory automatically update when the account is changed.
I'd be happy to provide you with an image to visually demonstrate this feature.
I will also attach an article that will guide you whenever you need to add a sales tax category to products and services in QuickBooks Online.
Before making any changes, it is recommended to seek advice from an accounting professional or a QuickBooks expert to ensure that the method you choose adheres to your specific needs and complies with accounting standards.

I know how to do this on a product-by-product basis, with the screens you showed. But we want to do a bulk update, and actually, it's only for non-inventory items (there were just earlier comments from users with inventory items on this thread about bulk updates). What we do want is to do a bulk update by importing a CSV file, and in doing so, also the account in historical transactions. I don't see a checkbox for that on the import screen.

I acknowledge the value and benefits of your business in making bulk adjustments to your inventory in QuickBooks Online (QBO), CJ Consulting1.
Please note that this feature isn't yet available in (QBO). In modifying historical transactions, you should update each non-inventory item individually. As a workaround, in importing or updating these in QBO you can use the reclassify tool available in QuickBooks Online Advanced, to correctly assign the historical transactions to the associated non-inventory item accounts. Alternatively, you can invite your accountant, who has access to a special tool that can reclassify all transactions at once.
I'll also encourage you to send feedback to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QBO by following this link: How do I submit feedback?
Don't hesitate to get in touch if you require more assistance with bulk adjustments in your account. I'm here to support you, and the Community is also always ready to lend a hand. Stay safe.
