Can I change the price of multiple items instead of one at a time?

Hello there, @userroma.

At the moment, you can only edit each item to adjust the cost. Let me show you the steps on how to edit an item's cost:

  1. Go to the Sales menu, then select Products and Services
  2. Look for the first item to edit the cost and click Edit.
  3. Scroll down to the page until you'll see the Cost field.
  4. Update the cost.
  5. Click Save and close.

Please note that the changes made will affect future transactions. Hence, the existing one will still use the old cost.

Check out this article for more details on setting up and tracking your inventory in QuickBooks Online

For future reference, you can also read through this article should you need steps in case you need to modify the quantity on hand of your inventory: Adjust inventory quantity on hand in QuickBooks Online.

Hello @California_diesel,

I appreciate you for reaching out to us here in the Community. Allow me to step in and share additional information about changing the price of multiple items in QuickBooks Online.

Yes, you can also use this method to change the price of multiple items in a single file (Excel). When importing them back to QuickBooks, you'll get a check box asking if you want to overwrite the values of the products and services with the same name.

In case you need the steps to import, here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Click the Gear ⚙ icon, then select Import Data.
  3. Select Products and Services.
  4. Upload your file.
  5. Follow the instructions until finish.

Additionally, I suggest checking this article to know more about the suggested formatting for importing inventory into QuickBooks: Import products and services into QuickBooks Online.

Leave me a comment below if you need any clarification about the import process in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help you some more.

Can I change the price of multiple items instead of one at a time?

Is there anyway to do a specific % increase across the entire inventory? Almost every vendor we have has a 5% increase Feb 1st and importing and exporting with single or multiple item manipulation is a massive time consuming effort. It would be far easier to plug in a across the board increase and then make individual changes were needed.

Yes, there's a way to add a specific % increase across the entire inventory in QuickBooks, @muenstermann. Happy to share with you the complete details and steps.

I agree that exporting and importing inventory whenever there are changes is time-consuming. That's why QuickBooks create a Price Rules beta feature. This functionality let you to enter a percentage (decrease and increase) for all of your products and services.

To utilize this, let's turn it on first by following the instructions below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Account and Settings
  2. Select the Sales tab.
  3. Turn on the Price rules radio button in the
  4. Products and services section.
  5. Click Save, then Done

After that, set up the price rule template. Do the following:

  1. Go to the Gear icon again and select All lists
  2. Choose Price Rules and enter a unique name in the box.
  3. In the Product and services drop-down, pick All inventory.
  4. Pick Percentage in the Price adjustment method field.
  5. Select Increase by and enter 5% in the Percentage field.
  6. Pick a Start and End date, then click Apply rule
  7. Hit Save and close

Can I change the price of multiple items instead of one at a time?

Hello,

Just adding on this query,

by doing a bulk price percentage increase across all inventory items using the price rules, I have noticed then that when you look up a product it does not show you the new increased price, it still show's the old price then when you go into the product details it shows it has a price rule set against it. Is there a way of having this new increased price shown when you do a product search.?

Thanks

Thank you for joining this thread, @DLADCO. I'll share some insights about how the price rule works in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, we need to ensure that the price rules have selected the Customers or Products and services. You also have the option to set the price in the Adjusted Price tab. After saving it, the changes made will apply to your future transactions.

Also, the Sales price/rate in the Product and Services info page won't change even if you have set up a price rule for them. You'll want to create a transaction to verify if the rules are being applied to your inventory items.

For more information about this process, please refer to this article: Set price rules in QuickBooks Online. Scroll down the page and you'll find a list of common questions about this feature, along with their answers.

Thank you for following this thread, sk@cimaint.com.

I'll add some information about the pricing features in QuickBooks Online.

When creating an invoice, the price rule should automatically be applied as you add items. It's possible that there are multiple price rules applied to the product and services. That's why, it's not showing the adjusted price. To resolve this, you'll need to select which rule you want to use and review all active price rules.

I'm adding this article for common questions and to learn more about the price rule feature: Set price rules in QuickBooks Online.

Let me provide some information about price rules, bestwaymarket.

In QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, if you're using it with the Platinum or Diamond subscription, you can use the advanced pricing feature where you can change automatically the prices of items on sale based on the price rules you create. I've also added this screenshot for your visual guide:

Once advanced pricing is activated, QuickBooks changes the price levels in your company file into price rules. To turn on advanced pricing, follow the steps below:

  1. Select Edit, then select Preferences.
  2. Select Sales & Customers, then select Company Preferences.
  3. In Custom Pricing, select Enable Advanced Pricing.
  4. Tell QuickBooks how to handle price rounding.
    • To not use rounding, select Don’t round prices.
    • To use the same rounding for all price rules, select Use the same rounding across all price rules, then select a rounding option.
    • To set the rounding for each price rule separately, select Set rounding on each price rule.
  5. Select OK.

To give you more details on how you can create, edit, delete, or even disable price rules, go through this article for your guide: Set Up And Use Advanced Pricing

Moreover, QuickBooks offers a wide range variety of reports that cater to your business need. Learn from this article how QuickBooks displays reports using the Report set: Understand Reports.

I'm happy to welcome you in the Community, @uneco419. I appreciate you for joining the thread.

You may control the price of your goods and services by using pricing rules. Discounts are possible, as well as varying prices for each item. You may also make them available to only specific clients for a specified amount of time. I'll show you how to increase prices on all items in QuickBooks Online by percentage.

Let's begin by turning on the price rules under the Account and Settings tab. Here's how:

  • Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  • Click the Sales tab.
  • Select Edit in the Products and services section, then turn on price rules Beta checkmark.
  • Click Save, then Done.

Then, you can now create a price rules. I'll show you how:

  • Select the Gear icon at the top, then click All List under LIST.
  • Select Price Rules, then Create a rule.
  • Fill out the necessary details.
  • Click Apply rule.

Can I change the price of multiple items instead of one at a time?

THIS DOES NOT WORK - I HAVE 2 OF THE SAME SHIRTS. I ADJUST THE PRICE AND THEN ADDED 1 TO INVENTORY. MADE 2 TEST INVOICES, USING THE PRODUCT ONCE IN EACH TO SEE IF ONE WOULD HAVE AN OLD PRICE AND ONE WOULD HAVE THE "UPDATED COST" AND IT DOESN'T WORK

Can I change the price of multiple items instead of one at a time?

Hello there, @maryskustomkreations. I appreciate you sharing details of what you did in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I have replicated the scenario on my end and observed that different item prices (old and updated) appear on my test invoices. Please refer to the attached images for visual reference (Note: Screenshots include dummy information).

It is possible that you modified the item cost before creating the invoices, which resulted in not having different item prices (old and updated). When you adjust prices for Products/Services in QuickBooks, the changes only affect future transactions.

However, if you created the invoice with the old price before adjusting the item cost and still don't see the desired result, this could be a browser issue.

Browsers use cache and cookies to load web pages faster on subsequent visits, but this can sometimes cause unexpected behavior that affects the views and performance of QBO. To identify the issue, I recommend using a private window, as it doesn't save any temporary files.

To open an incognito window, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N

If you are able to generate different item prices after adjusting your product's cost in the private window, I’d suggest deleting your browser cache to refresh the system. If the issue persists, I recommend using other supported browsers. This will help us determine if the problem is specific to your current browser.

Additionally, you may want to explore this article to learn how to set up reorder points to keep tabs on your inventory in QuickBooks: Set up alerts for low inventory and then reorder products in QuickBooks Online.

I'll be around if you have other follow-up questions about managing your Products and Services. Just tag me in your reply and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
