Can I change the word Estimates to the word Quote on my forms that are sending out to customers? I tried changing it in my custom forms part but it isn't applying

Yes, and you did the right steps in changing the "Estimates" to "Quote." I have a couple of solutions to help you apply the new "Quote" form name. 

Do you have multiple custom forms? If so, ensure to select the correct template when creating an estimate. Here's how:

1. In the estimate creation window, click the Customize button.
2. Select your template with the "Quote" form name.
3. Click the Print or Preview button to double check. 

Are you also trying to change the wording on your email messages? If so, you'll want to do it in your Account and settings. Here's how: 

1. Click the Gear icon, then choose Account and settings.
2. Go to the Sales tab, then open the Messages column. 
3. Select Estimate under the Sales form drop-down menu. 
4. In the Email subject line box, change "Estimate" to "Quote."
5. Click Save and Done. 

Note: These will only apply to the customer-facing view. QuickBooks will still use "Estimate" for the user interface and reporting.

Hi there. I have a similar issue.

I have selected the option to use the term "quote" instead of invoice. In the PDF quote document itself, it has the word "Quote" above the customer's address and also next to the quote number.

However the term "estimate" is still used elsewhere, which is very confusing for our customers:

1) the PDF file has the word "estimate" in its filename e.g. Estimate_Q1234_from_MYCOMPANY.pdf - why isn't it using "Quote" like I've selected? and

2) in the summary which appears below the email text, it has "----Estimate---" as the header:

This is like a very confusing half-way house - half quote, half estimate. Is this something I can change?

Hello there, Ceevee.

Yes, you're correct the PDF file name and the Estimate Summary is system generated, and the option to change it is unavailable. Meantime, you can download the PDF file and change its file name and manually send it to your customers.

I'll show you how:

1. Open and estimate and at the bottom menu, click Customize to select the quote template. 
2. Click Print or Preview and then Print or Preview at the bottom.
3. At the upper-right, select the Download button at the lower-right.
4. You'll be routed to the Save As dialog box to change the File name. 
5. Click Save.

From there you can manually send the estimate with the correct PDF file name and the estimate summary after the email will be removed.

If you don't see the Save As dialog box, you can try changing your browser settings. Here's how to do that if you're using Google Chrome:

1. At the upper-right of the browser, click the vertical dots. Then, click Settings.
2. From the left menu, select Downloads. 
3. Toggle the Ask where to save each file before downloading option.

But good grief, that's terrible functionality... If QB offers the ability to change the name of this document from "estimate" to "quote" then that absolutely needs to be reflected everywhere that a customer will see it.

Our business sells eLearning software, so our customers are only used to receiving quotes. They are all confused by this term "estimate" that appears in certain places now we've moved to QuickBooks. No-one uses that term in B2B situations.

And thanks also for the suggestion, but we're generating far too many invoices every day to have the time to download each PDF individually, change the filename, then email it manually.

Anyway, am really glad to read that you'll take this on board as product feedback.

Hi. I am also having an issue with this. In my industry Estimates are not an option. Everyone deals in quotes.

I have changed the word Estimate to Quotation as suggested however this is not working. Instead of replacing the word it appends it. My Email subject now reads "Estimate - Quotation QU-XXXX". 

Surely this is a bug. Also, the file name still reads Estimate.

Any progress been made on this?

Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to isolate this issue about changing the word Estimate to Quotation. There are times when a browser's cache becomes full or damaged. When this happens, issues like this can occur.

To start with, let's try logging in to your QBO account using an incognito or private browser. Since this doesn't store data in the cache, it the best place to isolate browser issues.

Kindly use either of the following shortcut keys:
 

• Google Chrome, press CTRL  + Shift + N
• Mozilla Firefox: press CTRL  + Shift + P
• Safari: press Command + Shift + N 

Try performing the steps shared by Catherine_B again. If it works, you may want to clear the browsing history of your regular web browser. This will remove previously-stored browsing data that might have caused the issue. Otherwise, you can try using other supported browsers to be thorough.

Step 4: In the Email subject line box, change "Estimate" to "Quote."

When I do this and hit save I get an error message that the word estimate must be in the subject line.  Is it possible that QB doesn't have Quote as an option? I don't give estimates.  No services. I know exactly what my product costs.  Why isn't Quote an option? Did I list the wrong industry during setup? How do I find the QB Quote without having to customize an estimate?

I know how beneficial it is to your business to have Quote as a template for sales form. However, this option is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We need to include Estimate in the Email subject line (example: Quote [Estimate No.] from Triple J|Triple J|Triple J) to avoid the error message.

I appreciate your reply, however the work-arounds you refer to do not work in the subject line of the email.

The subject line (when sending out the estimate that has been renamed "quote") has an error message that says the word "estimate" must  remain in the subject line.  I am not sending an estimate.  I am  sending a document now renamed "quote". I'd like the subject line to reflect that it is a quote and not an estimate.

Quickbooks, you really need to have the ability for a user to generate a quote. This is a super common and required thing in business. A quote is a solid thing, even if only for a certain amount of time, but an estimate doesn't allow a customer to make a decision if you're selling a solid product and not a service. Please add the option to generate a quote. You literally just need to duplicate your estimate template and replace the word "estimate" with "quote". At this point, it's asinine that this is not a feature in your software. People have been asking for this for a while. Please fix this problem.

Were you able to try the workaround that @jamespaul mentions?

That workaround should provide you with the Customer-Facing Quote you are looking for.

No, the work around does not work. Honestly, that's not even at all what I, or the other members of the community of users here are asking for. Please just add this simple template to your user interface and not ask us again to use the work around that does not do what we need it to do. Why in the world would your invoicing software not have a quote feature. It seems like a pretty large oversight? See what I mean? Can you just pass along that your users want an invoice template added? I'm not interested in additional recommendations that are not a fix on your end.

My business also works with quotes and not estimates. PLEASE change this function so that the word estimate can be replaced by quote.

Its clearly because like everything else in the US if its not applicable to the US then they really don't care.

Please can you add this to your options.

If I had know this when signing up I would have used something like Zero instead simply because of that one oversight.

I looked when I was first setting up but assumed I just hadn't found the right button and left it to come back to when I had more time, never would it have occurred to me that it wouldn't be an option.

Its accountancy software for business for gods sake.

I'm  now faced with a customer that will not raise a sizable PO off the back of an estimate.

It is absolutely necessary to have a Form called QUOTE! Please amend/add a new form at the earliest!

in uk law there is a big difference between an estimate and a quotation, we were about to move to Quick books but if this hasn't been corrected we wont.

The feature to change the label to quote is still unavailable, Jopete. I'll add a few details.

There should also be the ability to change it to say "Proposal" instead of Estimate or Quote...

Is there any update on this?  As mentioned by other users, the term ‘Estimates’ is not really appropriate in the UK and we need to eliminate this term when we refer to ‘Quotations’.  Like others, I have changed to Quotation on the Form, but remaining use of Estimate is confusing and misleading.  I don’t understand why it is so difficult to solve…just provide another Form template called ‘Quotation’…simple, no?

Why can't we change this word "estimate" in every field we want to across Enterprise?

Let us name it what we want to name it. 

Its a few letters for God's sake.
