Quickbooks should be a shame for screwing customers by holding them, hostage when it comes to envelopes. I should be able to change the template on checks so I can continue using my current checks. Now I need to throw away 3000 envelopes with my logo on it.
This is not what we want you to experience, @Theda,
As mention by brconsultingid2 above, you can change the checks font in the printer setup.
You can use coarse and fine adjustments when setting up your printer. This aligns your checks, invoices, and other forms to print on continuous-feed printers.
For further details in setting up your printer, here's a great resource that you can check: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/print-checks/align-checks-invoices-and-other-forms...
Please feel free to post here in the Community if you have any more questions with QuickBooks.
What about on QB online? Is there a fix? I tried the -330 vertical adjustment but got an error, "this value is out of range." It didn't change anything.
My setting now is Horizontal 13 and Vertical 1, and the return address just barely makes it below the top edge of the window. I wish there was a way to move that whole text box down, a .25" will do the trick.
I appreciate you for trying to adjust the printing alignment, bsw805.
The option to adjust the checks alignment starting with a decimal point isn't available in QuickBooks Online. We can only enter a positive of negative number.
That said, I'll bring up this idea to our Developers team. They'll review this product suggestion and may be added to our future updates.
Feel free to take a look at these articles for more information about the fine-tune alignment when printing checks:

How are you able to do Payee Validation using the Quickbooks styled checks. According to the Positive Pay Guide they must conform to published ANSI X9.7 –X9.100 layout standards. Can you give me any insight in how to make that format work with Quckbooks?
Hi there, IVS1.
I can see that this is a feedback to use the suggested lay-out standard from Positive Pay. As of the moment, you can head over to QuickBooks Desktop Apps. This community page has the right specialization in regards to a third-party applications for the positive pay file.
You can post there and let our product managers know about this suggestion, so that they can assess this for future product updates.
You can come back anytime if you need anything else. We're here to help. Take care.
I purchased checks from Deluxe and Intuit really needs to let you move the fields around rather than up, down, left or right. I need to move the date field and it's stupid that one cannot. I would think a majority of your users would REALLY like that feature. It can't be too hard for the engineers to do this!
I am having trouble lining up my electronic signature. The signature prints too high above the line. I have tried different file types to use, but cannot align the signature separately, therefore the whole alignment moves together. It would be a lot more beneficial to have the options the same as in invoice layout designer.
I see that I am not the only one frustrated with check alignments. I have tried to use my electronic signature scanned in with different formats and all of them print the signature too high above the line. I cannot adjust the alignment because the rest of the information gets cut off with the pre-printed lines on the check (Quickbooks checks). It is frustrating to not be able to separate the adjustments on the check to line up correctly.
Thanks for joining this thread, bgeorge1.
I'm here to help fix the trouble you're experiencing about lining up the signature on your check.
In order for the signature to print correctly, make sure the image has an 11:3 aspect ratio (11 width and 3 height) to fit into a 2-3/4 inch wide by 3/4 inch tall area with no space around it. Once you've followed the proper aspect ratio, the system should place it above the signature line.
For more information, please refer to this article: Create and use an electronic signature for checks and paychecks.

when you go to print, under "more settings" there is a place to change the scaling. Many times it automatically reduces the size so all you have to do is bring the number to 100% and your checks
should print fine. This is what we figured out after going back & forth with Intuit who was no help at all.
I agree. Shame on Intuit. I just had a letter returned (a check to a vendor) because the address sits so high on the checks, if it moves in the envelope even the slightest, the address is "out of view". And I use "Quickbooks Compatible Envelopes". The only workaround I found was to go to the edit vendor's info / Address Info (opening tab) / Address Details / Bill from: And enter a hard return (blank line) as the first line in the vendor's address. This pushed the address down, on the check, where it was more centered in the window. Note to Intuit. This is not a minor nuisance. Printing checks, specifically payroll checks, properly IS A BIG DEAL. If you already have to code to customize an Invoice than adding that feature to the check template is something that you could do in a day. You clearly don't want to and prefer to hold your loyal, repeat customers hostage over a couple of dollars in made in "proprietary" formats. SHAME!
It shouldn't take much, just need to be able to add a line or two to make sure things line up.
As much as Quickbooks costs and as often as they update, it is unconscionable that we cannot edit the check template. This is a blatant move that demands us to buy their checks. I can save 33% if I order other checks not from Intuit. I use the "other" brand anyway as I don't have all that money to purchase through Intuit. I don't use their invoices for the same reason. The only thing special about their paper products is that it is when they force the use of it. Otherwise, they are more than compatible.
It is a shame you call this "Solved." It is not, as the 24 months of complaints indicate. I am processing payroll in QB, but printing through other means because of the incompatibility of QB to my clients checks. If you cannot be compatible and refuse to serve your customers, just let the world know and understand.
I am using QB checks, ordered from QB, authentic. The checks still do not print in correct alignment.
Scott is quite eloquent. I suspect this is a marketing ploy, not an engineering problem. At the very least, Intuit should offer differing formats of checks. I, too, have many issues with the Sage 50 product, and about 5 years supply of Sage style checks that I did customize. Given Intuit's market share, what is there to loose from the bottom line if a few check orders disappear. I would like to see the ability to move fields around the check form so that it lines up with the windows on the envelopes and so that I can make my present checks work. When they run out, I will be glad to order uniquely QB checks. Please say this is on a soon to be released update.

And this is not the truth. I have been trying to just align signatures and no matter what alignment I try it doesn't move DOWN. All other lines move down but not the signature line.
Again, Quickbooks is wrong on this one. I have my signautes in an 11:3 ratio and it still prints in the exact same position (too high). I've adjusted alignment but everything ELSE moves EXCEPT the signature line.
When the check stubs print, the lines are printing improperly so they are layering on top of each other, making it difficult to read the text. On the checks themselves, the numerical value of the check is not lining up where the dollar sign is located. Additionally, the asterisks after the written-out amount are spilling into the numerical value field.
Is it possible to change the alignment of the text for both the checks and corresponding check stubs on QuickBooks online?
Hello there, Anon748.
Let me help you align your checks when printing them.
You can set up your print settings for either standard or voucher checks. Let's make sure that your printer is set up for QuickBooks so your checks align and print out correctly. I'll show you how to use the print setup and align your printer settings.
Before you start, try printing using a blank paper for your test prints. That way you won’t waste actual checks if you need to fix the check alignment.
If it still doesn't line up correctly, you can follow step 2 on this article and the proceed to the next steps if the same thing happens: Print a check in QuickBooks Online.
I'm just around the corner to keep an eye on your response. Just mention me in your post or reply. Take care!
It has been two years, and a few releases by Intuit, how about that check customization update?
Why do you continue to put marketing and revenue before customer service?
Respectfully,
derek
This is a NIGHTMARE, I have middle stock checks and can't print a check run??
I am running two companies and cannot print checks. YIKES and two thumbs DOWN
This is not the impression we want you to experience when printing your checks in QuickBooks Desktop, gonecrazytoo.
Before we proceed, please know that not all printers are the same, some of the troubleshooting steps below require knowledge of your particular printer's setup. To guide you in performing the steps, I suggest reaching out to your IT person or the printer manufacturer's tech support. We can check the following before you start troubleshooting.
Then, let's check your printer if you can print outside QuickBooks:
If the print test didn't work, follow these steps:
Note: If the printer is a network printer and the test page does not print, network issues could be the cause.
If the same thing happens, please proceed to Step 4 in the Resolve printing issues article to troubleshoot the issue. Once done, print the check again. Also, I've added an article that will help you align checks when printing.
If the issue persists, there may be damaged data on the company file you've been working with. We can run the Rebuild Data tool is built-in to fix any company file data issues. Just follow the steps and detail in the Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file article. We can also repair your QuickBooks Desktop to fix any damaged components in the software.
Feel free to visit our Expenses and vendors page for more insights about managing your vendor transactions.
You can always update us after performing the solutions, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Please reply to this post and I'll get back to you. You have a good one.
