Hi knapiks,
I appreciate you for getting back to us.
You can run the verify and rebuild steps to isolate why you don't have the Preferences option. I've added this article for the detailed steps of the process: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.
As for importing, you can bring in transactions for more than a year. Since you're able to import for a week worth of items, ensure to map them correctly. You can check this reference for more information: Import Web Connect (.qbo) files.
Once imported, you can categorize the transactions. Here are references as your guide:

I need to reestablish my bank feed but my bank credentials (user id and password) are not working in my quickbooks. I have reset the password with bank and it still does not work. Suggestions?
I need to reconnect my bank feed with truist/bb&t. My bank credentials (password and user id) don't work in qbooks. I have reset my password with the bank and it still does not work. Suggestions?
How do I get a suntrust pin for truist?
1st, Deactivate All Online Services for all Truist bank accounts in Chart of Accounts.
2nd, Change your Bank Feed mode from Classic to Express. This should allow you to import the QBO file manually, without having Quickbooks try to directly connect to Truist thru Quickbooks. To MANUALLY import the .qbo file, you must change your Checking Preference to Express Mode, so Quickbooks will not try to directly login to your bank.
With you Quickbooks file open:
Click EDIT
Choose Preferences
From the Left column click Checking.
At the top of the box, click COMPANY PREFERENCES tab
At the bottom of the box, under BANK FEEDS, click the EXPRESS Mode.
(Your OPTION: choose to create rules & Ask before creating , this is your personal preference)
CLICK OK
Now open Bank Feeds Center...
You do not need User ID or password.
The Truist Primary account holder, also called the Account Admin or Business Administrator is the person who can set up PINs.
NOTE: Only the Admin has permission to download transactions & view statements. For all secondary account users , Truist by default, unchecked the statement access box for all of these Users. Quickbooks uses this "permission" as a validation for the .QBO file when importing. How to correct this is by having the Admin sign in to Truist, Find Business Admin. Click User Name then View. Custom Access control is for each User, make sure the Statements box is checked for your Login ID. Click Submit. User can then login & download the .qbo file to manually import in Qucikbooks.
Remember transactions dated from Suntrust (prior to 02/21/22) has a OFX coding errors which need to be modified before importing ( see OL-222 fix I posted a few days ago.)
I hope this helps you! Good Luck
I would go back to Truist & download the QBO file for the missing dates. Choose Custom Dates then download. Open the QBO file in EXCEL and make sure all of the DEPOSIT are changed to DEP in CAPITAL letters.. Easiest & fastest way..
HIT Control F ( FIND box opens). Click on Replace Tab.
Find What: DEPOSIT
Replace with: DEP
click , REPLACE ALL
Then import QBO.
Oh I forgot.. One more thing...
Any line with more than 32 characters (including SPACES!) after the < > is invalid format.
INVALID Example: <NAME>NET SETTLEMENT MERCHANT BANKCARD DEP (too long)
VALID Example: <NAME>NET SETTLEMENT MERCHANT DEP
It is not feasible to manually correct all these errors when one has hundreads of transactions. Not a vieable option!!!
How do you open a QBO file in excel??
I don't have preferences in Truist. QB's is fine. I cannot import any of Jan. One week of Feb only. do you know how to turn a QBO file into excel? someone said to do that? I am so confused. I have been trying to solve this for at least 3 weeeks now. Suntrust worked just fine. I think it is easier to switch banks. Do you have a bank suggestion?
Oh yes it is, by using the sort by choosing find and clicking REPLACE ALL options for the words DEPOSIT. THEN again search for the & there really can’t be that many.!
Same for the 32 characters or less you can scroll & eyeball those they stick out like a sore thumb….
Option 2 : you can key all those bank transactions you are inferring to and key the old school way.
Option 3: call Truist and have them fix the OFX bank file for you…. Don’t be mad when you are on hold for a long long time and get disconnected!
Good Luck
Do you have Excel program?
if you do.
right click the qbo file and OPEN WITH Excel .
Please. Tell me how. How do you do replace alll in notepad? I don't know how to open with excel. Or export to QBs with excel. Notepad is the only way i could open it and export it. does QBs need to be in classic or express mode. I have read so many posts , I am lost.
Preferences are in Quickbooks, for -Checking
- Company profile
not in Truist website
Put in Express mode !
Open excel
file open
Select the qbo file… I’m assuming it’s in your downloads.
I no longer know what instructins i was following but ti was a setting in Truist that I was changing. Excpt I didn't have it.
In Truist you had to go to your profile, Business Admin & make sure the Statements box is checked. This instruction is mainly for any secondary user with a different login than the Primary. Only the primary account can give the access to the secondary users authorization to statements. If you are the primary you can ignore this step.
It is not giving me the option to open with excel. I have excel. Use it all the time.
“how to open a qbo file in excel video instructions”
I'm not finding anything when I google. Do youy have a link? It looks like a bunch of adds.
The file doesn't show up when I do that. Is there soemthing that needs to happen to make excel recognize a QBO file. I can download from bank as excel but then I don't know how to export to QBs.
Still cannot find a way to open in Excel. I can export to Excel. But then what? How do I import into QBs?
