Hello we recently started using Quickbooks Desktop Premier Plus 2022. Actual fiscal year starting 01/01/2022. I set up classes for all my upcoming invoices for January 2022. Two of our tenant came to pay their monthly rent early and I recorded the payment with 01/01/22 date. The payments are still sitting in a undeposited fund, since we do deposits in a weekly basis.
When I run a report P&L by Class (cash basis), those payments show up under different Class, but if I trace back the invoice from the report I can see the right Class assigned when the invoice was first created.
I need help. Really need Class function to work. Thanks in advance.
Class usually works as of the date of the invoice and that is the issue I think.
Post date the invoice and the cash basis P&L should be right then
Hello Rustler thanks for answering. I logged in again in my QuickBooks as of Jan 01 and the problem is the same.
Thanks for getting back to us, giannibyte.
Allow me to step in and share some insights about your payments showing up on the Profit and Loss by Class report.
Payments won't show up on the Profit and Loss by Class report, only invoices. Also, you're unable to assign a class when you receive payment.
When it's time to make your weekly deposits, the Make Deposits form allows you to select a class. Here's a screenshot for your guide.
Would it be okay if you send a screenshot of the payments with classes? You can click the Reply button and attach the file.
This way, I'll be able to check and ensure transactions are recorded correctly on your company file.
I'm adding this link to help you manage invoices and how to record them in QuickBooks: Get started with customer transaction workflows. It provides screenshots and other related articles.
I'll keep this post while waiting for your response. Have a great day ahead!
Hello MaryLandT, thanks for your response. I attached some screenshots of the report and related invoices from report.
The first screenshot shows the P&L by Class
the second shows after double click on the $1200 payment
the third is when I trace back the original invoice (right Class shown)
Please note that those payments are still sitting in Undeposited fund.
I noticed you mentioned that when is time to deposit will have a chance of entering the corresponding Class. But don't you think that that work was already done when the invoice was originally created? Thanks again.
I appreciate the screenshots you've provided above, @giannibyte. With that, I can guide you on the next steps you can take to help take care of this matter.
Yes, you're correct. When you create the invoice, you're already assigned the transaction to a specific class. Based on the screenshots above, it seems that you're experiencing minor data issues with your company file.
To fix this, I'd recommend utilizing the Rebuild Data tool. It's a built-in tool that can help automatically resolve data issues with your company file. To do this, here's how:

Hi Rea_M. Thanks for taking the time to respond. this is what I get after the doctor.
This situation is getting very frustrating. I checked all the data and looks right to me.
I performed a deposit and assigned again the right class but the report P&L by Class still wrong.
However I don't understand why this software accepts Class at invoice creation and then you have to enter the class again when you do the deposit. It's the same work done twice.
I want to stop this issue from happening to you, @giannibyte.

I have done that twice. First time the person helping me had no clue, then lost the communication and never got a call back. The second time the other person was a little more knowledgeable but still did not know what was going on.
I guess nobody knows what is going on. I was waiting for a call from customer support on Monday the 3rd 2022 but nobody called me. I'm forced to erase all the invoices and create them again. That's crazy. I miss my spreadsheets!!
