Unable to upload accountant's copy. They were using version 2021. I upgraded from 2019 to 2021 QB Desktop Pro. I've been using QB since 2004. Matter resolved with no help from tech support on this issue.
After 45 days they could not help me so I upgraded.
Now I can't email invoices. I'm using AOL. Have always used AOL. No problems until now. Installed new 2021 version less than 30 days ago. Checked for upgrades. Nada. Went through verified option. No problems.
Is QB forcing me to upgrade even more? I don't need more. I don't need Payroll. I don't want on-line services. Is a basic $400/year for my account not enough $$ for Intuit?
Any help with this annoying problem with not being able to send Invoices would be appreciated.
Hi there, Frustated in Minnesota.
This isn’t the impression I want you to have when using the product. I’ll help make sure you can email your invoices using QuickBooks.
Since you have QuickBooks Desktop 2021, you’ll no longer have to upgrade to another version. We’ll have to configure the email service to get you back on track sending invoices. Let me guide you through the process.
To enhance the overall performance of the program, download the latest maintenance release. Next, go to the Preferences window to update the email settings.
In your AOL email's setting, make sure it has the correct SMTP Server information and port. Go to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Port Information section for the complete details: Connect your email to QuickBooks Desktop
After setting up the email feature, you can start emailing invoices. I’m adding an article to help you in the future. It contains solutions on how to resolve common email issues.
Feel free to click the Reply button if you have other questions or clarifications. I’ll jump right back on to answer them for you. Have a good one.
I followed your response. You need to know I had already done everything on the list but I went through it again. Still unable to email invoices. I had been able to after installing QB2021 Desktop Pro but I'm unable to do so now.

Why did you upgrade to QBD 2021? They still supports QBD 2019 until May 2022. You may purchase a one time license of QBD.
@Frustated in Minnesota wrote:I had received a phone call from Intuit Help and I called back. After all this, Intuit says we will only help you if you pay $299 for a short-term or $599 for a yearly Tech Support Plan.
How did you call them back? Dial a certain number?
I upgraded because Tech Support could not help me with the initial problem. I had a Case Number etc and was told that numerous people had this problem and that Tech Support was working on it. I upgraded because my accountant's firm (a large firm) had version 2021. Once I upgraded, I sent a new accountant's copy and had her upgrade and send me back anew version.. Wah-lah. I was able to upload with no problem. As far as I know, Tech Support never found out the problem. I was refunded the amount I spend for a "one-time" tech support fee. Now you want to know what number I called? It wasn't one out of hat.
I don't know how any of your questions helps me with not being able to send invoice emails. I was able to many time after uploading version 2021 and now--I can't.
Just uploaded the 2021 and AOL does not pop up as an email option. Before I upgraded I had 2018 and it started having this issue a few days ago. I have been using Quickbooks since 2012 and have NEVER had an issue using AOL to send invoices. This is making me think about using a different program since apparently this is a KNOWN issue and still no fix. ONE MORE TIME! There is no AOL on the drop down menu.
Thanks for joining this thread, Pamawoman.
Issues like this occur when the version of QuickBooks isn't that updated to support the AOL domain. Since you've already had the latest version (QuickBooks Desktop 2021) and still having issues with sending invoices using the said domain, we can try updating your QuickBooks program to the latest release. This is to make sure that you have the updated components.
Here's how to manually update your software:
Once done, you can try emailing invoices again. If the issue persists, it would be best to get help from our support. They can conduct a deeper investigation as to why your QuickBooks is having this behavior.
Here are the steps to contact support:
Please take note our operating hours for chat support depend on the version of QuickBooks that you're using. Please see this article for more details: Support hours and types.

I look forward to hearing from you and getting this worked out! Have a good one.
I worked on this issue for three days and finally found the answer on a random accounting website. AOL requires you to generate an app password from your AOL security page for Quickbooks to send emails. Quickbooks will not show up on the drop down list but the password that is generated will work. Super annoying that the answer is going through AOL when I have never had to do this before. Hopefully this will help someone else that is still having this issue.
None of that worked because it is not a Quickbooks issue. You have to generate a third party app password from your AOL account security page for AOL to work with Quickbooks. Sometimes the simple answer is the answer. I changed ports, upgraded, updated, took out all of my security and anything else I could find until I finally stumbled across the correct answer. It is a shame that the "experts" do not know this. Such a monumental waste of my time over such a simple issue.
I found your answer. Generate a third party app password through the security page for your AOL address and use in QB when the password box pops up. I tried everything for the last 3 days and stumbled on this. I also e-mail all of my invoices through AOL and this, so far, has worked perfectly. I have only been using it for one day and I am hoping it is a permanent fix and that I do not have to keep generating this special password. Unreal that these tech gurus do not know this with their own program.
Sorry but you are incorrect. I had a brand new 2021 upgrade and made sure it was up to date. This is an AOL issue. You need to stop answering issues about AOL with this. It is an easy fix through AOL. Stop making people go through all of this nonsense that will not fix the issue. And if I sound pissy it is because I am. i went through literal days trying to fix this and stumbled upon the correct answer at a random accountants website. You are torturing AOL e-mailers for no reason.
Attentino Attention: POSSIBLE FRAUD ATTEMPT but first the issue with no invoice capablity
Same problem. Used 2018 no problems to send out invoices. Purchased QB Premier 2021.Now cannot send out invoices via email.
Here we are on June 1, 2021. Just puchased QB 2021 desktop. Then spent hours with two tech support "level 2" and 3. Many attempts No answers.
THEN how is it possible for fraudsters who managed to pick up on my request for assistance through the Intuit web site? The called after about 15 min. stating they were aware of the propblem and for a fee would fix it feigning there was no warranty for such a failure with the software.
Real QB techs did call but could not fix the problem after 2 hours on the phone. They suddenly the call was dropped.
What to do? I am behind with my clients needs. I plan to request a refund and possible other legal action. Changing to another accounting software company is not a walk in the park

Thanks for joining this thread and letting us know about your concern, @Italian Law,
I know how it can be frustrating to be held up like this when you just want to get your account updates be resolved. I can share some insights on how you can make your email work in QuickBooks Desktop.
There are a few possible reasons why your email won't work in QuickBooks:
To help you fix this, we want to make sure your QuickBooks Desktop software is in its latest release. QuickBooks periodically provides maintenance release and software updates to fix emailing issues, add features or enhancements, and update compliance information.
Try downloading the release patch from the internet, by following the steps below:
Once updated, and you're using web mail, check the settings in the Preferences window:
If you're getting an incorrect password error message, please follow the detailed steps in this article to resolve this: QuickBooks Will Not Accept my WebMail Password.
Once done, try sending the email again and see if goes through successfully. If not, let's delete and recreate your email profile. Here's an article with the complete steps on how to set up your email service in QuickBooks Desktop.
However, if you're using Outlook, you can follow the steps suggested in this link: How to fix "Error: QuickBooks is unable to send your email to Outlook"
If all else fail for Webmail or you're getting the same Outlook error, you can use other email services and connect it in QuickBooks.
I also recommend to continue working with our Technical Support Team to get this escalated to our Data Services Team. They have the tools necessary to check your company file and help you send invoices without issues.

Your problem with e-mails is probably 2-step verification - AT&T, Yahoo and others are going to that as a mandatory setting. Each company is different, but it affects 3rd-party software that uses POP, IMAP & SMTP settings to access e-mail functions. Basically you'll need to create a 3rd party app password for that program. Hopefully the following will help you - https://help.aol.com/articles/Create-and-manage-app-password
