Has anyone figured out how to enable Price Rules with the "New Layout"? Specifically, I need the drop down arrow to give discounts per line item.

Hello there, Shariekp. I'm here to share some tips about adding a discount to your item.

Enabling the Price Rules with the New layout is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Therefore, I recommend sending feedback to our team developer so they may view your suggestion and add it to future releases. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and thank you for your contribution to helping us enhance our services.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Select Next to submit.

Alternatively, you can manually create your Price Rules within the All list menu. Please know that before creating a Price Rule, you'll need to enable first the Price Rule feature within your settings. Let me walk you through the process:

Step 1: Turn on the Price Rule feature

  1. Go to the Gear icon located at the upper right corner and choose Account and Settings
  2. Press the Sales menu within your left navigation panel.
  3. Find the Products and Services section, then press the pencil icon to make some changes.
  4. Toggle on the Turn on price rules feature.
  5. Once done, click Save. Then click Done.

Step 2: Create your Price rule

  1. Go to the Gear icon and press All list
  2. Under the Products and Services, click Price Rules
  3. Click the New Price Rule button located in the upper right corner.
  4. Fill out the necessary information.
  5. Click the Products and Services tab to enter the adjusted price of your product.
  6. Once done, press Save or Save and Close

@IrizA  RE: Enabling the Price Rules with the New layout is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

So then, why is Intuit forcing everyone to use the new layout that breaks invoicing for everyone that uses price rules?  It's amazing, really, the lack of any apparent thinking that goes on at Intuit.

So that is the issue. I have posted my feedback over and over again and NO ONE is listening.  What I REALLY want to know is how to speak to one of these engineers to get the problem solved. Can you tell me that??

It wouldn't do any good. Intuit's engineers have no power to fix anything. Intuit is a marketing-driven company that just happens to create software.

Paying what I pay and to have price rule inop actually adds so much more work.  Please bring this back.

Why would anybody go through the time and energy to set up price rules when we cannot use them? This makes absolutely no sense. It cannot be that hard to turn the old layout back on, please do it. For others on here I was informed yesterday that if I pay for the top tier QBO version they can turn price rules back on for invoices. Really sad that this company is holding functionality for ransom.

That a very valid point. They had a functioning process for price rules. They change the format and take it away!

We look like rookies with our customers, can't even showing them proper pricing on their estimates and invoices? This software is at best good for mom and pop operations doing one transaction a day. You have to do everything manually on here!!

Excel does a better job than this crappy software, we keep paying $100/month for presumably Advanced subscription!

How is this even a billion dollar company?!

This might be the one that gets me to switch to something else finally, it has been baffling how bad every new update has been. What a shame this is the company who has a monopoly on financial software..

You keep making QBO worse.  Why in the world would you take away a commonly used existing function???

The Intuit rep had the gal in the office switch to the new template.  Now we cannot access the pricing rules.  They do a lot of business, and this change is unacceptable if we cannot change back to the old template.

Huge problem.  Big time waster, all invoice data entry personnel are flipping out.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your concern here in the Community, ks351.

QuickBooks Online has introduced new updates to improve the back-end technology of sales forms. Currently, all users have been migrated to the new estimate and invoicing experience with no option to revert to the old one.

Furthermore, the feature to set price rules is still in beta. This means that only selected customers can turn it on, and it isn't available on the Simple Start and Essentials plans. With this, I recommend sending your valuable feedback, so our product developers can take note and consider adding them in future updates.

Here's how to send feedback:

  1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. Under Profile, select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Press Next to submit.

For more info on managing pricing rules for specific products and services, you can check out this article: Set price rules in QuickBooks Online.

For future reference, here's a guide on generating reports to get info about your products and invoices in QuickBooks: Run reports.

Let me know if you have any other concerns about price rules in QuickBooks, ks351. I'll be around to address them.

We use advanced QBO.  The company does high volume sales.  The rep had the admin gal switch to the new template during a screen share without advising her that the features were not the same.  How is this acceptable?

And no way to return to the old templates.  Unbelievable.  Just the worst.

Same here. Also... odd that I get this error when I try to thumbs up any of the useful comments that might get attention.

Authentication Failed.

  • Authentication Ticket Mismatched, failed authentication.

But I can reply to them... hmmm

I can help you fix the error you encountered when approving helpful comments, Jesse. I'll provide the troubleshooting steps below.

You can log in to your QBO account using a private window. Thus, there are times when too much historical data from the browser causes discrepancies that affect the view and performance of your QuickBooks.

To help us determine if this is a browser-related issue, feel free to use either of these keyboard shortcuts to open an incognito window, depending on your browser:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Shift + Ctrl + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N

If it works, you can return to your original browser and clear its cache, not the cookies, to start fresh. You can also use another supported, up-to-date browser that is already installed to narrow down the results.

However, if this issue is about the price rules feature, we currently have an open investigation about this. Although this is being actively looked at, we're unable to provide a specific time frame for resolutio. Please know that our engineers are aware of the issue and are in the process of being prioritized.

With this, you can reach out to our Customer Support Team. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the ? Help button at the top right corner.
  3. Go to the Search tab and enter your concern in the search field.
  4. Select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us.

Moreover, you can check out this article for more information about managing pricing rules for specific products and services in QuickBooks Online (QBO): Set price rules in QuickBooks Online.

Also, we have various reports that we can pull up to help you track your business: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

Ping me a reply if you have any further questions about price rules or any other QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll always be ready to assist you. Stay healthy and hydrated.
