I have found that to avoid lengthy delays with call centres it is always best to select the option 'cancel the policy', you nearly always get put through straight away to a real person. Its clear from the condesending comments from Quickbook support they are not taking any notice of users total disatisfaction with modern view and that the best use of this thread would be to advertise alternatives to Quickbooks so that dissatisfied customers can at least evaluate the competition.
Can anyone recomend alternative offerings?
I will join the long list of other extremely disappointed in the modern view and the inability to turn it off by default. The modern view is useless the way it is currently setup
I agree with UserDavid12. Intuit shouldn't push something down user's throats without an option to change back to something that works better for them. The new modern view is clumsy and doesn't show all the details of transactions without having to move the scroll bar to the right. Bad decision Intuit
Glad to see I'm not alone in despising Modern View. But it's disappointing to see that it's been 3 months and nothing has been done to rectify the issue -- despite the long list of angry customers. It's not rocket science to add a Preferences button and allow people to choose how their reports display. With the high subscription prices we are all paying I'm sure they have plenty of engineers on staff who can take care of this. Or maybe all their money is being poured into Marketing now??? Seems that way.
The modern view is buggy. Every time I use it it comes up blank. This is after I try all date ranges. Only when I click the "Switch to "Classic" view does my information appear. Please remove this feature until it works properly.
I can't see the date column with the "improved" view nor do I have the option of staying in Classic view.
Enough with the talk about how much you "hear" us.
We pay enough. Fix this, please!!
Thank you for reaching out to us, Jim3333.
Changing the view to classis is not an option anymore, so let's check to see if the missing date column is caused by random browser issues.
To start, you'll want to sign in to QuickBooks using a private browser. This mode disables extensions and prevents the cache from saving your browsing history.
If browsing privately lets you see the Date column, you can return to your regular browser and clear its cache. Alternatively, you can try signing in to QuickBooks using a different browser to determine if this issue is specific to one browser.
You can also click the Small Gear icon on the report page and make sure that the Date checkbox is ticked.
Let me know if you need more help with your reports. Take care and have a good one!
Thank you for the standard copy and paste reply which I can see you have sent to many people, nothing personal about your customer service. Do you even read our complaints about modern view? There are dozens and dozens of people complaining about modern view. Youe need to listen to us and add an option to permanently switch it off so that all reports open in classic view, but we are being ignored. Why is this so difficult for you to fix?
Modern View was clearly designed by developers and not accountants. There's no other way to describe how absolutely useless the thing is and how much time it wastes trying to use it.
My company is now looking at what our other options are since the Accounting Dept output has slowed down so much that it is now starting to effect Operations and it's all because of this useless awful interface and the extra time it is taking to make the excel exports actually usable.
This thing is a freaking disaster and the bad news is that it isn't going away. The options for those who hate it are to either suffer through with it or find a different software and suffer through the pain of an implementation.
It is frustrating to be forced to choose 'Classic View'. We never use Modern View, don't see its advantages, and hate the lowering our our productivity with QB because of the lack of a method to default automatically to classic. I've clicked on the feedback link many times, but it never responds--so there isn't any way to communicate feedback.
Hi there, @BeautifulArizona.
Allow me to provide you with a set of instructions to assist you in submitting your feedback within QuickBooks Online.
I completely understand the inconvenience you're facing when manually switching to a classic view while accessing specific reports within the program. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and I will certainly take note of your suggestion to enhance your QuickBooks experience.
If you're interested in personally sending a feature request to our developers, we can walk through some troubleshooting steps to address the issue and ensure that your feedback reaches the right channels.
At times, excessive cache accumulation in your browser can lead to unexpected behavior with the product. To address this, you can open your account in a private window. You can use these keyboard shortcuts for different browsers:
If it works, return to your regular browser and clear its cache or switch to a different supported browser. There's a possibility that the issue is temporary or related to the specific browser window you were using.
Additionally, there are multiple ways to customize your reports according to your preferences. You can apply filters to display specific accounts or customers and adjust the layout to ensure that accurate data is presented in the appropriate sections.
Feel free to keep me posted if you still have any questions or concerns regarding QuickBooks Online. I'm here to provide assistance. Stay safe and take care!
Thank you Raymond, however your suggestions did not work. As an example -- I have a custom PnL report setup, when I run the report it looks OK. When I click on a number in the report to see the detail behind it, the subsequent drilldown report opens in the new "modern" format. How do I force the subsequent drilldown detail reports to open in the classic format (without having to hit the "switch to classic view" button at the top?
I have submitted feedback via the gear several times with no response to my feedback.
Dear Quickbooks Team,
Indeed your suggestion of clearing my browser cache fixes the "modern view" figures. And your review of shortcuts is helpful. However, I don't see clearning my browser cache as a trustworthy solution. The Classic view figures were correct without the need to clear my browser cache. Please fix the new feature so the new feature works consistently or remove it.
Rob
I agree, those of use who prefer the simpler classic view should have a toggle option to remain in that view as the default
The "modern" view is counterintuitive, adding extra steps in order to access the required data, and as a result decreasing productivity.
Please allow users to default to the Classic view. Quickbooks should make efforts to remove clicks required, not to add to them. Doesn't seem this was well thought out before implementing.
Quick update to the situation. My employer is moving away from Intuit products as a whole and we are working on an implementation to be done by year end.
Please stop QBO from defaulting to Modern View. Please. Its a nice feature to access when doing specific reporting but not for day to day reports. Please go back to the way it was before. Everything doesn't always need improvement - some things are fine just as they are. You see the complaints. Please.
Know that we only wish you to experience the best kind of service while using QuickBooks Online (QBO), Nicole231.
I can certainly see that you've already used to using the Classic View while using the program as it has more options than the Modern View. We see consumer feedback as an opportunity to improve the numerous features of our products. I'd recommend giving our engineers direct feedback. They may look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Let me demonstrate:
I've attached screenshots below for your reference:

You need to change it so that it can be put into classic view.
Most Cloud systems are updated based on user recommendations, Intuit appears to have taken suggestions for the reporting and created a completely different interface, this looks like as many have suggested a programmer's response.
You need to listen to your user community more closely else they'll go elsewhere.
The issue is that modern view is completely unusable for my company because we have too many transactions. The page won't even load.
Hi there, @brandoncopley.
I'm chiming in to help you and ensure that the report data would load properly on the Modern view format.
Too much cache build-up in a browser can cause problems with the product, especially when viewing reports. This is likely the reason why the data didn't load, even if there are many transactions in your company.
To rule this out, let's use these shortcut keys to open a private or incognito window:
If it works, go back to your regular browser and then clear the cache. If not, use other supported web browsers. The current one you're using may have a temporary issue with QuickBooks. Utilizing a new browser allows you to get back to working order.
Also, we're looking for ways to improve the Modern view format on reports. I recommend submitting feedback if you have thoughts and suggestions on how this should work for your company.

Thanks, just tried this without a speed change.
I took a youtube video, but it contains private financial info unfortunately, but in summary:
modern view: 10 seconds to load one of our accounts
Same account in classic view: 3 seconds to load.
That's a huge performance hit, The new modern system is SLOW. and that makes ZERO sense, since when does Modern mean slow? The infrastructure and queries are terribly written and poorly organized, this is affecting anyone that uses Quickbooks, and if this performance decline continues I could see us switching to another platform. I've never used a piece of software that's gotten slower every time it upgrades, but y'all continue to amaze me.
Who's idea was this? It should have been a test - not a complete release. It is unprofessional to try to push the modern view on subscribers. You should have asked first.
Oh my.
@Clark_B Are you the new kid on the block? This string goes back for pages and pages and PAGES (translate that to months and months and...well, you get the idea...maybe) and lays out the exact problems with the Modern View and ALL OF THE QBO STAFF RESPONSES. You have regurgitated the EXACT same instructions (clear the cache, submit feedback, we're looking for ways to improve, etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum) that the other QBO staff have presented.
*****WOULD YOU PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ONE--NOT ONE, SINGLE, SOLITARY ONE--OF THE QBO STAFF RESPONSES HAVE GOTTEN EVEN ONE LONELY CHEER?!?!****** Take a wild guess why that is? Go ahead, I dare you. Just give it a teensy little try. Just once.
The truth is, neither you nor any of your compadres on the QBO side either knows how, or cares, what the answer to this problem is. I have said it several times before over the last 6 months: One of you needs to grow a pair and present this string, intact, to the upper management of Intuit--NOT the developers or programmers. I simply cannot imagine that the Chief Executive Officer or President of this rather large company would tolerate developers or programmers who simply operate on a policy of "keep telling them the same thing, and do nothing" when it is so clearly a huge issue for paying customers. If it were even a little bit simple to do so, there would have been a massive route to change platforms to some other company.
At first it was frustrating, and it moved to infuriating, then on to laughable, and now it's just insulting. Giving the same responses, none of which are functional, is just plain stupid. Telling us that you CARE and are available at the drop of a line to you (or any of the other QBO staff "helpers") is utter nonsense. Look back at the string: many of your compadres have said the same thing--in fact, all of them--and there have been many responses from the community, saying things don't work, and not ONE of you has actually come back online to continue the discussion.
Shame on the whole lot of you for your lack of backbone to take this to the executive board.
