Is there a way to use gopayments with a desktop computer? I don't want to use a mobile device.

Happy Friday, carrieg2.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I'd be glad to provide some info about accepting payments in QuickBooks Online.

The GoPayment app is typically used for accepting customer payments while on the go. However, you can absolutely sign up for a Payments account to do the same thing on your computer through QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here's how:

1. Sign-in your QBO account as an admin.

2. Click the Gear icon in the top right corner.

3. Select Account and Settings, and then the Payments tab.

4. In the QuickBooks Payment section, choose Learn more

Complete the following prompts to activate your new Payments account. I recommend checking out this article for more info about signing up for QuickBooks Payments.

Additionally, this link offers details about the different ways to accept and process customer payments

Now you'll be able to accept your customers payments in QuickBooks Online from the comfort of your desk chair. Don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help.

We already use the payments option. We wanted to be able to swipe/tap cards as well, without a mobile device.

We already use the payments screen to manually enter card information. We want to be able to swipe/tap without having a cell or tablet connected.

Thanks for getting back to me with those details, carrieg2.

Most of the compatible card readers connect through Bluetooth on a mobile device, but there is another option. The Magtek card reader connects to your computer via USB. You can find out more about this reader by visiting this link: Order an Intuit Payment Solutions Magtek Card Reader.

With this info, you'll be able to skip the mobile device, and still take swiped payments. Please let me know if you need assistance with anything else.

Is there another compatible reader that can accept chip cards that can be connected to the computer?  The gopayments app is garbage, and Currently I'm forced to eat 3.4% by keying in a card vs a much lower % if I could run it through a reader?

Hi there, @awiebold.

We have the Magtek reader that you can connect to your computer via USB. You can learn more about it here: Install and use the USB MagTek card reader with a QuickBooks payments account.

We also have mobile card readers that use GoPayments to process seamless transactions as you go. Rates per transaction are provided in this article: Mobile payments.

If you stumble into an issue while you use the mobile app card reader, don't worry. We have an awesome guide that will help you fix it: Fix issues with the GoPayment and QuickBooks mobile app card reader.

Should you have any other questions about setting up card readers. I'd be pleased to help you out.

My desktop computer is Bluetooth compatible is there any way to use the card reader with QB online using my desktop? Or is there any way to set up gopayments on the computer?

I can share some information on how to use the card reader with your QuickBooks Online (QBO), @MrFixitElectric.

You can only use or download the GoPayment app on your mobile device.

If you use QBO in a web browser, you can send your customers an invoice that they can pay online.

For more information on how to accept electronic payments for your invoices and sales receipts, see this article: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Online.

If you've got the card reader and downloaded the GoPayment app on your device, check this article on how to set it up and use it to process payments: Set up a card reader for QuickBooks GoPayment

In case you've encountered errors with the reader, here are some steps on how to fix it: Fix issues with the GoPayment and QuickBooks mobile app card reader

I'm always here if you need more help setting up or questions with your card reader. Let me know by leaving a reply below. Keep safe and have a great rest of the day!

This is absolutely infuriating.  First the problem of not being able to accept a credit card payment with a card reader that has swipe, chip and tap is ludicrous.  Who handles your product development?  It's insane.  Nobody wants the gopayment solution for in store processing.  There are tons of questions and threads on this issue.  Literally every other platform has a solution.  Intuit which is the largest seems not not care about the actual customer needs or issues.  It's totally bonkers.  Especially since we are forced into this ecosystem if we want customers to have the option to pay directly from an emailed invoice.  If we are forced to use your system, make it a complete system!

Coming to QBO is like going backwards...

It doesn't help that every moderator, admin, content lead response is literally the same copy and paste from the online article we have all found and the question is never directly answered, it is even more insulting and infuriarating.  One can only assume that Intuit cares so little about their customers that they just have bots answering all of these.

Please just solve the problem with a simple USB device that can swipe, chip, and tap.  Or make the stupid gopayment puck able to plug into the computer via usb or connect via bluetooth!!!!!

I hear your sentiments, DDunn2. And we understand the impact this has had on your business operations.

Please know that this isn't the experience we want you to have, and I can see how having this ability can help you save time taking payments from your customers to have the power to run your business seamlessly. I'd personally want them on my computers by easily connecting via Bluetooth or USB. Thus, I'll take note of these feedbacks and submit them to our product developers.

You can also send this idea directly to them by clicking on the Gear icon and select Feedback. They might consider this option and assist you with your business demands in this manner.

Meanwhile, you'll want to consider following the insights shared by my colleagues above as an alternative to help you resolve accepting payments from your customers.

I'll be sharing this reference to guide you on what features QuickBooks Payment card readers and the program they work best with: QuickBooks Payments card reader features and compatibility.

We'd love to hear more from you, DDunn2. Feel free to get back to this thread if you have additional queries. Keep safe.

Hi, I was using desktop 2020 they stopped support 5-31-23 they said i must migrate to qb online , so i did now my mag stripe won't work on my desktop[ running qb online, so i got the new round reader an it won't work either, support told me there is no fix and i have to now use go payments with my phone, how could this be possible, I also have to pay 1% extra to key in the numbers, double punishment.

Thank you for migrating from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, @arenot

I appreciate the elaboration about using the round reader when accepting payments. I'm here to clarify the extra 1% payable and why it won't work using a Desktop.

QuickBooks Chip and Magstripe Card Reader utilize a micro-USB cable to function with QuickBooks Desktop 2019 or later. Due to QuickBooks Desktop 2020 discontinuation, users can migrate to QuickBooks Online.

The round reader or QuickBooks Card reader you purchased works via Bluetooth in the QuickBooks GoPayment or QuickBooks Online mobile app. That's why our Support representative mentioned there's no fix and recommends using go payments on the phone, including iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Android tablets.

When you accept payments via tap or insert, you will pay 1% less in processing fees. Otherwise, you pay more for key-in charges.

See this article to learn more about the features of QuickBooks Payments card readers and the programs or applications they work best with: QuickBooks Payments card reader features and compatibility.

I hope this sheds light on your situation. Let me know if you have any other concerns about taking credit card payments on the go! Stay safe.
