Another great one - You type in a unique name, it matches. You'd expect if you hit TAB it will populate it with the name, but instead it leaves you with "More choices" in the customer field and the joy of typing the name in again and remembering to move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse and having to click the name instead.
Hi David,
You can use the down arrow key and press Enter to highlight and select the detected name instead of using the Tab key.
Thanks for reporting letting us know about this behavior. Let's open your QuickBooks in private browser to see if we get the same thing. Browsing privately disables the cache from saving your browsing data, and it's a good way to check issues caused by a full cache.
A cache, on the other hand, temporarily saves your browsing history so a web page reloads faster. However, it may cause unexpected behaviors when it's full. So if you get the desired result while it's disabled, you can go back to your regular browser and clear the cached data. You can also try other browsers to see how it goes.
You can always visit us here if you need anything else.
This is happening in the QB DESKTOP VERSION 2019 - not clear how clearing "browsing history" is supposed to help!!!!
Hi there, @____.
I've already answered this question on your main post. You can check this out through this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Reports-and-accounting/Previously-I-was-able-to-enter-a-Cust....
Have a good one.
Useless solution - been using the program for over 20 years, this showed up in 2016 version. The names are sorted alphabetically - in receiving payments, the program wants to "pick" the most recent contact and/or any recent customer with the letter combination in it! If I am just searching for a customer in the customer list I can only type one or two letters is looking for "horton" I can type "h" and "o" but by the time I type "r" it takes me to names beginning with "r" - this does NOT happen in the vendor list.
in the payments, invoice, and enter bills windows when I type the first letters - in this case "nel" - of a name, a bunch of random names containing the letters are at the top of the list. - see the screen shot.
everytime there is a new release and /or required update there are so many bugs in the program it is OUTRAGEOUS I wish the accounting firm we use would offer other options for accounting software.
Hello there, @____,
Thanks for the attached screenshot. I've come to share some clarifications about your concern for today.
The updates and changes implemented are the results of the suggestions provided by users.
The name showing up when you type in the initial letter isn't an issue in the system. You have the option to click the drop-down menu or enter the full name of your vendor/ customer. This way, you'll be able to easily find their names in the list.
Here's the sample screenshot when I search a vendor name in the Enter Bills page.
Should you need anything else, please let me know and I'd be glad to help.
This is still a problem.
Example - I need to bill time against the company Netcom.
I'll type Netcom.
By the time I get to the O in Netcom it has matched Northwest Company
Since I've continued typing (mostly muscle memory) I end up with either "om" let in the field or just an "m" or some other useless partial string of text.
Backyard matches around the "back" part of the name, autofills another customer's name (NOT HELPING) and I end up with "Remoyard".
Why are you REPLACING what I have gone through the trouble of typing? WHY?! I went through the trouble to type it, unless I've typo'd I wanted what I typed!
This is infuriating when doing multiple entries. At times I feel like I've spent more time correcting Quickbooks name entries than I have entering time for customer billing..
It's been a couple years now. I've worked with your agents. I've allowed them to remote in and see I'm not the problem. They admitted, this is not right and promised to send it "up."
PLEASE FIX THIS.
Hello there, @david-seber.
As mention by my colleague above, typing an initial letter isn't an issue in the system. You'll need to select the drop-down arrow to enter the name of your vendor/ customer.

"As mention by my colleague above, typing an initial letter isn't an issue in the system."
Yes, if you could make it match the first letter of the name instead of EVERY SINGLE CLIENT with that letter, I could use the drop down and pick the client I am looking for.
But as of right now I am stuck typing in a partial name and hoping the VERY FRUSTRATING system doesn't match and replace in the middle of what I am typing.
I have tried clearing cache and both Firefox and Chrome. This issue persists.
This is still a problem.
2 years later and this is still a problem.
Hello, @david-seber.
I recognize this isn’t exactly the outcome you were looking for, and I'm here to make sure your concern will be addressed properly.

Thank you for giving us an update, @david-seber. I look forward to hearing from you about how the call goes. I want to make sure everything is taken care of.
We're going on our 4 year anniversary! Since this issue is still ongoing I'll be sure to check in then!
Today I typed in "Sacred" for Sacred Heart and I ended up with only "red" in the line. Woohoo!
"Ace" got me "The Printer Place", which is nothing like Ace. But thanks for screwing up that match and replacing everything I typed in for a useless result!
David,
Thank you for continuing to follow up and post about this problem. I am currently researching how QB handles client lists as we move our company away from the headaches of Jobber. I think this VERY SIMPLE to fix, important, BASIC function of my client list having such a failure for years has sealed the coffin on my decision to use QB.
So does bumping this thread bring it back to the top or should I start a new one?
I'm about to find out. This is still a problem!
I made another thread with more details and more information, which seems to have been deleted.
Going on year 5 and name matching is still broken. Here's a bump!
