Still not fixed. It cuts off my invoice numbers that I am paying to my vendor and page nmbers run into the last line of the page. The template is awful. PLEASE FIX IT
There are probably thousands of people who have done this and it is still not fixed. What is there to not understand?? Just put it back the way it was! There was no issue before.
I have Enterprise and this is still not customizable!! Please fix ASAP. Intuit is making their customers look cheap. We pay alot of money every month for this program and the support is the absolute worst. I can not stand the BOT responses.
6 months later. Still not fixed....
Well, everyone, since Quickbooks refuses to listen to its customers, let's discuss what the alternative accounting platforms are.
Oracle NetSuite and Freshbooks both come to mind. Are there any others? ANyone have any experience with either of these?
I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable. Intuit charges use exorbitant annual charges for bookkeeping processes that really don't change and haven't changed for decades. You change the UI and think it justifies your annual upgrades. QB99 still does everything except linking to online accounts. I'm seriously thinking of going back to QB99.
How on earth can the bill template NOT be customizable?!
Intuit is pathetic!
Now December 16th. Still not editable.
Any the Online Bill Pay cannot be used if you take any prompt pay discounts or use credits with the vendor. You can ONLY pay exactly what is shown on the invoice despite what you actually owe the vendor. Why can you cut a check with discounts but you can't send and ACH with discounts. Its broken.
We keep coming up with stupid, inefficient work arounds for these issues which are so much more difficult and cumbersome. <sigh>
I appreciate you following this thread, l00semarble.
You may not want to hear this but customizing the Bill Payment Stub isn't an option in QuickBooks Desktop.
For the discount, you're right that you can only pay the total amount of the bill in Online Bill Pay. Currently, discounts and credits have to be applied beforehand.
This article will help you set up a discount or credit to the bill before paying it: Use Online Bill Pay in QuickBooks Desktop. You can refer to the screenshot and steps provided on this page.
To ensure your payables are tracked in QuickBooks, check out this article: Accounts Payable workflows in QuickBooks Desktop. It outlines the steps to make sure you're recording the transaction correctly.

The new version of Quickbooks Enterprise (2023) lists this in the product details found here:
Customize Bill Payment Stubs
Maintain professional and consistent communications by emailing customizable bill payment stubs from within QuickBooks. Save time by immediately emailing bill payment stubs to one or multiple vendors at once. Easily edit your logo, formatting, balance paid to date and other required billing information—all from within QuickBooks.
So, we are all in luck! We just all have to upgrade to QB 2023. Even if we are using the equally expensive QB 2022. The price they want to charge me for this UPGRADE is $4948.00! What a deal!!!!
So awesome that they fixed it for us!!!!
Except this is what Quickbooks says:
Learn how to use and customize form templates in QuickBooks Desktop.
In QuickBooks Desktop, you can create custom templates for forms. You can customize these templates to control how they look and what information to include.
QuickBooks Desktop 2022 adds the option to customize and email bill payment stubs. |
Here’s what to do.
To access the form templates list:
Note: If you’re using QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, here’s how to customize form templates.
It allows you to edit nearly all of the items in the template except the columns. It is cutting off pertinent information. And it has been OVER A YEAR of people complaining. Why is this so hard to fix?
This information that you posted, which says that
We added bill payment stubs to the list of customizable QuickBooks forms. Maintain professional and consistent communications by emailing confirmation to your vendors.
is just not true. I have downloaded the most recent update to Quickbooks 22 and again tried to edit the Bill Payment Stub and it does not display the "Additional Customization" button or the "Layout Designer" button. There is still no way to edit this form in any meaningful way. To use the right window bill payment envelopes we have been using for years, which are printed with our business address, and which we have hundreds of, I have to make an origami out of the new bill payment stubs in order to get the address to show through the window, since now the address is displayed on the left. Plus our business address does not display the city or state, and our logo is so tiny it is unreadable. This is a dumpster fire.
I know, but that info is from Quickbooks themselves...they are giving false information.
You can select to add the city and state. Do you see that? Although it looks ridiculous because there is a huge blank section between the business name and the address.
Yes Quickbooks again blowing their trumpet for something that they don't really offer. They tell you this is available for all versions of 2022 Desktop and then "no" it is not an option. Guess the propoganda department just considered that a minor "whoops". I have tried to teach myself to like Quickbooks over the last 10 years, but it gets harder because their promises never live up to the product. That awful online product was touted as a good replacement for the desktop version...what a joke.
Sage now has a program to compete with Quickbooks.
I am using QBDT enterprise 23 and still cannot edit the Bill Payment Stub, the invoice ref# does not accommodate enough space for longer bills #s.
Our controller is itching to get back to Oracle. Never tried it. It could not be worse than QB. Their reporting (not only the Bill Payment Stub faceplant) is just terrible. It is not possible to build a custom report. Sure, there are 5,384 reports that you can use data A and data B in but if you need data C, sorry, out of luck. I used to use SigmaNest which utilized a free report maker and you could build ANY report you could think of using ANY of your data. I'm not sure how a free piece of software works better than this that we're paying thousands of dollars annually for multiple licenses(?)
Excuse me, you are saying that the Bill Payment Stubs are not customizable in Quickbooks Desktop. However, as I pointed out previously, the link here
QuickBooks_Enterprise_23.0_In-Depth_Guide.pdf
says this:
Customize Bill Payment Stubs Maintain professional and consistent communications by emailing customizable bill payment stubs from within QuickBooks. Save time by immediately emailing bill payment stubs to one or multiple vendors at once. Easily edit your logo, formatting, balance paid to date and other required billing information—all from within QuickBooks.
But I just downloaded and installed this (Since Intuit charged my debit card $5,343.84 even though my old card had expired and I did not update it because I did not want this new edition, so without my authorization. Somehow they ended up with my new expiration date and CVV code although I never gave it to them. I am hoping this is grounds for a dispute.) and guess what, the bill payment stubs in 2023 are still not customizable. And as pointed out by another user, there is an extra space between business name and address, and the addresses do not line up with standard left window envelopes so we have to origami the stub to get the address to show up. It looks like garbage, it works like garbage, so I have to say, it is garbage. And a freaking lie, telling us we can finally customize this again when we cannot. I regret upgrading to v. 2022 and regret even more upgrading to this 2023 version which is exactly the same as last year's version. What is the problem with them? Why won't they just put back the old customizable version of this? This is a ridiculous thing that none of should have to waste our time dealing with.
Dispute has been filed. They cannot tell us this (below) in the 2023 Enterprise Manual and not provide any ability to customize it beyond changing the fonts:
Customize Bill Payment Stubs Maintain professional and consistent communications by emailing customizable bill payment stubs from within QuickBooks. Save time by immediately emailing bill payment stubs to one or multiple vendors at once. Easily edit your logo, formatting, balance paid to date and other required billing information—all from within QuickBooks.
I can think of one reason why the body information of the Bill Payment Stub isn't showing when printing in QuickBooks Desktop, Mary.
Let me discuss it with you along with some fixes.
There's currently no known issue with the above-mentioned problem. Also, I've tried on my end and everything appeared just fine. Kindly refer to the image below:
You're likely experiencing the issue due to incorrect formatting. I recommend reviewing the format first and then re-printing it. If everything's correct and you still get the same result, make sure of the following:
Once done, let's print the stub from another program (as long as it's not QuickBooks) like Notepad. Here's how:
If it still didn't print correctly, go to Solution 2, 3, or 4 from this article: Fix printing issues in QuickBooks Desktop.
Lastly, I'll add this module to make sure your Accounts Payable are tracked: Accounts Payable workflows in QuickBooks Desktop
Feel free to comment back on this thread in case you need extra help with bill payment stubs or QuickBooks. I'd be delighted to back you and your business. Stay healthy and keep safe always!
You cannot edit the format of bill payment stubs. Quickbooks says it's customizable, but it is not. People have been complaining about this for over a year and nothing is being done to fix the issues people are having with bill payment stubs.
Mary, go into basic customization and see if a print preview shows you those columns. Unfortunately QB does not allow us the ability to edit anything on the bottom half of the sheet, unlike every other template. Maybe even try making a duplicate of the bill pay template and use the duplicate and see if that helps. Just make sure you add your logo back in. Hope that helps.
Thanks to getting back to the real issue. A promise (part of their marketing for the 2022 version) made and not delivered. They won't give a date when their promise is going to be fulfilled. The new Bill Payment Stub (apparently tried to make it able to be formatted) looks horrible with that big wasted space at the top.
This does not solve anything. We can NOT edit the template as you can any other template. What QuickBooks is asking in your explanation is absolutely ridiculous. There are hundreds of comments regarding this issue and it still hasn't been fixed.
What people are asking for is to be able to edit the template. We should not have to export it to another program. How can you say there is no issue and in the same explanation turn around and tell us to do it somewhere else?
The reason that the body information isn't showing is because I can't make the field bigger or change the size of my text. We used to be able to do that.
